About
One of the first courses in the growing 1970s Plano community, Pecan Hollow started out as the Plano Municipal Golf Course. Don January and Billy Martindale, who had recently completed their signature Royal Oaks in Dallas, contracted with the city to help provide golf for Plano’s growing population.
The terrain here is flat, and the fairways are mostly wide open. January used the standard bunkers, water hazards, and trees in his design to cause problems for the golfer. The greens are of medium size and speed, and the course is basically pretty standard until you reach the punishing final stretch of holes. Nos. 16-18 are all 445-yard-plus par 4s with water in play–one of the toughest tests of golf in the DFW area.
Getting there : From I-75 north, take Plano Parkway east, then exit at 14th St. Turn right, drive a short distance to the course, and look for the entrance on the left side of the street.

Golfer Reviews
Surprise
First time playing this public course and I was surprised at the conditions of the course. With the dry hot summer we have had many courses have used that as an excuse but the courses here had green fairways and amazing greens. The layout is challenging and penal at certain positions but very fair for amateur golfers. Go play it for yourself
Best value in a 50 mile radius
We’ve played Pecan Hollow many times over the past three or four years. Greens are the best condition, no question. Pace of play is excellent, staff is top notch and course conditions are second to none. Waterview, Buffalo Creek and Firewheel could learn something from Pecan Hollow. If the food service had a little more depth, it would put a bow on the whole deal there. Pecan Hollow is #1 no question.
Great Value
Played in the heat so there was not a lot of us out there. Greens were punched a couple of weeks ago and have recovered nicely.
Rate of play
For the drought we’re having I was impressed with conditions. When we went to tee off there was an 8 cart wait. Each hole we had to wait on a minimum of two groups to go. I don’t know where the hold up was because the people in front of us were playing at a good speed. It was a 5.5hr round on a Tuesday at 11am. A tournament is the only time that’s rate of play is acceptable. It was a great course and I will go back.
Given that it has been very hot and dry for about 6 weeks the course was in excellent condition! It has a fair amount of challenging holes but definitely very playable and enjoyable. The clubhouse/pro shop was on a different level than the restaurant/bar. This seemed odd to me and felt a little inconvenient. This course was definitely a great value for $44 on a Sunday afternoon. /Robert
Just Ok
Just an OK course, and I have read from other reviews, pace of play super slow. That being said, they do have some nice greens. Would I play again, probably not, better courses out there..........
