One of the first courses in the growing 1970s Plano community, Pecan Hollow started out as the Plano Municipal Golf Course. Don January and Billy Martindale, who had recently completed their signature Royal Oaks in Dallas, contracted with the city to help provide golf for Plano’s growing population.

The terrain here is flat, and the fairways are mostly wide open. January used the standard bunkers, water hazards, and trees in his design to cause problems for the golfer. The greens are of medium size and speed, and the course is basically pretty standard until you reach the punishing final stretch of holes. Nos. 16-18 are all 445-yard-plus par 4s with water in play–one of the toughest tests of golf in the DFW area.

Getting there : From I-75 north, take Plano Parkway east, then exit at 14th St. Turn right, drive a short distance to the course, and look for the entrance on the left side of the street.

Fun course, nice layout

Course conditions for the dormant season were fine. Greens in great shape and fairways ran out nicely. We’ll be back again for another day

overall experience

Pecan Hollow is a great value for the fee you pay and the folks there are doing a masterful job keeping the course in good condition as winter approaches. Greens were the best I have played in a while when visiting the Dallas area and I have played many courses around the north Dallas area. Right now there are none that compare with Pecan Hollow when you consider the value.

Excellent round for the money

An occasional round at Pecan Hollow quickly reminds you why it's so enjoyable and should be considered more often. For December, the course was in excellent shape - far better than others played nearby recently, the staff was nice, and the pace of play for a 75 degree Friday afternoon was perfect. Fairways and greens were good for the time of year The additional touches ere are great. A nice driving range, good chipping area, huge putting green, and the carts with GPS are added bonuses to the course. We'll be back.

Great course

Great course. One of best layouts in DFW. Pace of play average. Little pricy, but conditions are always good if weather is not too wet. Appreciate the recent cleanup of tall brush around most holes.

Cold and Rainy

Had a great time today, but unfortunately we did not finish due to weather conditions. Tee’d off on 16, then it began to put buckets.

Overlooked Gem

Will gladly argue this course is the best to play in the city. Most of the north Dallas area courses are lined by overpriced homes, straight course layout with curves only on cartpaths, or so overpriced and crowded you feel that you're in Deep Ellum or Legacy West on a Saturday Night. This course differs as it was actually designed to incorporate curves and dog-legs, natural vegetation boundaries, and still be an accessible drive to the course. Golf cart seats were the most plush and GPS was an unexpected bonus. Mishits were found via manageable rough and forgiving wider-than-most fairways. Although friendly, the course design provided enough challenge via water hazards, bunkers, out of bounds trees, and excellent green conditions (pace, reads, level changes) to make it entertaining hole after hole. Course was busy but at no point felt overcrowded or hurried. Pace of play was perfect at near 4 hours exactly. At the price point and location, this has become one of my favorite courses after only one round; we booked the following weekend's tee time to return before even leaving course.

Great spot

Weekend play at a good pace is rare! And for the price is doubly rare! The practice facilities are off the chart awesome! Greens are fabulouse! Not sure you will find a better deal in the DFW area on a weekend. Wish I lived in the neighborhood so I could practice and play there more!

Steve ruined the round before it started.

The course is fine but Steve in the club house was very rude and unprofessional. I won’t be back.
