One of the first courses in the growing 1970s Plano community, Pecan Hollow started out as the Plano Municipal Golf Course. Don January and Billy Martindale, who had recently completed their signature Royal Oaks in Dallas, contracted with the city to help provide golf for Plano’s growing population.
The terrain here is flat, and the fairways are mostly wide open. January used the standard bunkers, water hazards, and trees in his design to cause problems for the golfer. The greens are of medium size and speed, and the course is basically pretty standard until you reach the punishing final stretch of holes. Nos. 16-18 are all 445-yard-plus par 4s with water in play–one of the toughest tests of golf in the DFW area.
Getting there : From I-75 north, take Plano Parkway east, then exit at 14th St. Turn right, drive a short distance to the course, and look for the entrance on the left side of the street.

5 hour round
The course is in decent shape, greens are fast and in good shape. The fairways need some work but overall not terrible. The pace of play was painfully slow. Waited on every shot for 5 minutes all day. Took the enjoyment completely away from the round. Never saw a marshal on the course so I blame the course for not managing the speed better. 5 hours is just too long to be on the course behind a threesome. 4 hours is a slow pace by my standards so 5 hours was just frustrating.
A course with everything except a Marshall!
Per a friend’s recommendation we played Pecan Hollow and were very pleased with everything except the horrible pace of play! It’s such a beating to wait 5, 10, or 15 minutes every shot but if you can handle the slow play Pecan Hollow is a great track and very beautiful! The part I could not comprehend was with all of the amenities PH has to offer why would you not have a crew of Marshalls to keep pace of play up for the enjoyment of everyone?
If you like a Hotdog at the turn this is the course for you!
We took a chance vs the elements and it paid off course was empty greens on a dry day look to be in fantastic shape, fun course, the hotdogs are massive and solid, only downfall was they just have just aerated the fairways
