Nice 9 holes but watch out!!
Nice easy 9 holes, but can get congested with those playing 18. The second set of tee boxes give the holes a different feel. Unfortunately there was a complete lack of etiquette with 3 balls almost hitting us with no call within 9 holes. When challenged the culprits seem bemused at being told to call.
Really good in all aspects.
Should let people know it's a double 9, pace of play slowed second time around. Very good facilities and in very good nick.
This course is a little gem
Although there are only 9 holes with 2 tees per hole, each is fair challenge and test, with fast and sometimes smallish, sloping greens, Arkley golf course is a fair challenge to golfers of all standards. The greens were in good condition for mid April and run true. The speed was frustratingly quick as a few putts ‘horseshoes’ and lipped out, so judging ‘dead weight’ putts is key to a low score. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon when we played in a perfectly quiet and beautiful part of the herts countryside. The recently refurbished clubhouse was also really nice and staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely play again and would recommend. The 9-hole set up is perfect for summer evening ‘half-rounds’ ;0)
Excellent conditions / greens for February
For a course that had probably been battered by a few storms the condition was excellent for February.
As the course is a 9-hole course that plays 18 we found ourselves hurried up by 3-4 separate solos playing quickly, which was a little frustrating having to let them through, but cannot be helped.
I am sure come the summer the course plays lovely if the greens are in a similar condition
Golfer
The double nines results in slow rounds. Well established fairways but little boggy at this time of the year
The course was close lost my money
I pre-booked the golf course via GolfNow. When I got there it was closed! no one Got in contact with me to tell the course was closed, I travelled 1 hour and 20 minutes. The course was supposed to contact me for a refund but no has been in touch. Very disappointed
Really disappointing wet short course
Sadly this us only a 9 hole course posing as an 18... Also the course was absolutely water logged so I couldn't use trolleys and lastly the patrons were interfering and rude. I only started playing this year but have played at 20 different courses already and this one is by far the most disappointing, the short wet course and some miserable patrons all combined to make this a disappointing experience. Avoid if possible, especially in winter. Note, all the bar and ground staff were very nice and polite, just miserable patrons.
Booking problem
Course was good but we had a booking problem. We booked through GolfNow and paid. However, Arkley did not receive our booking(Fortunately, we played but irregular starting point and time adjustment needed).
We found that GolfNow was not linked to Arkley golf system. It is a system problem but I strongly recommend GolfNow to check or adjust the booking system together with Arkley.
Visitors should book through Arkley website.
Arkley Park
Does not specify that it’s 9 holes twice on the website, would not have booked had I known. Was well kept (bar winter tee boxes) but not enough of a difference between back nine tees. Staff were lovely and clubhouse is nice but must specify that it’s 9 holes twice!
The putting greens are well kept
It’s worth experiencing a round of golf here. It is a quirky course. One is playing the same course twice from different tees and that is enjoyable.
Thoroughly enjoyed it
Driven past it a hundred times and thought would give it a try - glad we did. Course was in excellent condition , lots of mature trees and established fairways; greens fairly quick. Was intrigued how the 9 hole layout would work with 18 different tee boxes but it very much did and the holes very often very different second time round. Second nine was harder and a bit longer. Completed our two ball in 3 hours 20 mins which was quick for us . Enjoyed a beer on the terrace afterwards . Found everybody helpful. Will play again.
Busy Double 9
The course itself is fairly good but as it’s a 9 hole played twice it gets extremely congested as there doesn’t seem to be any consideration tee times when players playing the 10th (1st) come across players tearing off at the first. Also the greens need a lot of work to get back to a reasonably standard.
What a day
Played this course back in June . Well what can I say . Let’s start with the greens . The last time I’ve seen land this dry bob geldof was in tears and screaming give us your money . Then we’ve got the fairways the grass is bushier than Ron jeremies legs .
