Great dayout
3rd time played 3rd great experience from booking in to putting the empty glasses back on the bar staff more than helpful food really nice oh and the golf course was in tip top Condition wind picked up on the back nine and got the better of me put one in the water on the last but made a good 5 {if one exists) so we will be back soon
Excellent Golf Course
Excellent course fantastic greens
Course in very good condition
A golfing gem in Shropshire
first time not the last
On arriving at the course the young lady in the shop was very pleasant, and informative. She helped with directions to locker rooms and toilets, and when I was ready pointed me in the direction of the first tee.
The course was in excellent condition, greens were slow but that was due to the weather I think.
Was a very good course a pleasure to walk round and not too hard at all.
Great course
One of my favourite golf courses. As always was in superb condition. I would highly recommend it to people who have never played there before.
First Timers
Following the success of the Me & My Golf online tuition directed by residents Andy and Piers of The Astbury, it seemed only fitting to give this course a try. It lived up to expectations from the minute you drive up towards the spectacular Astbury Hall owned by Ken Downing of the legendary Judas Priest fame. The welcome by the golf shop hostess was fantastic giving us a guided tour of the facilities on offer. The course was meticulous and well manicured and the cut of the fairways of which I had never experienced. Undulating greens of billiard table style quality and a finishing par three over the lake completed a fantastic game of golf. Well recommended and another visit already planned.
Excellent
Was in the area on trip down from Scotland , booked not knowing what to expect , what pleasant surprise I got course was in top condition even though still early on in season greens were excellent had great roll, Thanks to Bethany who came out in the buggy to make sure I made it to the first tee , made to feel very welcome .Will deffinately be back next year
A must visit
The Astbury is a very welcoming course, and as a novice golfer I felt comfortable. On arrival the man in the club shop showed us around and explained everything (nice touch!), and we enjoyed some nice coffee's in the club house before teeing off. The course itself was in excellent condition especially as the weather had been quite bad during the week. The views are spectacular, and the manor which houses the club house is a nice sight. The club house is my favourite of any I have visited. Being a musician, K.K Downing has decorating the place with musical memorabilia which is an added bonus to a great golf course. The food was also good. The whole experience oozed class, but we did not feel out of place at all. A must try for golfers of all levels.
Great course poor greens
This is a great course but we played it the wrong time of year as the greens had been treated so we had 1/2 inch lines to put on with sand in them , give it a month and I imagine they will be great , just would like a heads up over all a great course so don't be put off
Exceptional course.
This is our 4th visit to The Astbury in the last 12 months. Once again, considering the recent weather, the course was in excellent condition.
The staff are always pleasant and helpful.
If you ever get the chance play this course. Beautiful place, immaculately kept. Looks quite open but the way the rough is cut means punishment is never too far away. And the greens are some of the best we have ever played. Again thanks to the staff.
Great course
Great course and very well Maintained all round will be playing agin
Shropshire gem
Great course in lovely surroundings, very good undulating fairways and greens in great nick, quite open, would make a perfect society course. Good mixture of long, short and tempting "go for it" holes. When the small sapling trees lining the fairways mature it will be even better. Not sure about the GolfShake 2nd best rated course behind St Andrews? Could make more use of the lakes and ponds in the grounds that don't really come into play until the 18th. Nevertheless an excellent track.
Malkin's plus Me and My Golf
Hi Everyone,
We travelled from Scotland to play this course and it lived up to expectations. Firstly Dave the Professional made us feel very welcome and went out of his way to look after us. The clubhouse is well presented, stylish and the service was excellent. Our day out was really enhanced when we met Me and My Golf for the second time this year having met them both at Castle Stuart in the summer. A great course, great venue and some great team players and characters that all make it a special day out.
Well done to all at The Aspley we will defo be back soon.
Thanks Andy and Robbie Malkin
Astbury in October
I'd heard a lot of this place, and was looking forward to playing it. The set up here is good, and you can tell the owner has high hopes. Impressive clubhouse, and friendly staff, meant the day started well enough. The course is where there was slight disappointment.
The course still feels really new, it's well looked after with some impressive holes, but it feels very open in places. This may be to some people's liking, and would probably be well suited to societies with higher handicap or non regular players. The course improves as you continue round, with the back 9 - definite improvement on the front. The greens were in fairly good condition for the time of year, but after all I'd heard I possibly expected better. With all this in mind I feel the £35 green fee we paid on a Sunday afternoon in October was maybe a little high, with what I could equal courses available for £20 or even less. At £20 I would have considered this good value, but £35 seems expensive. The round was enjoyable and I would definitely play the course again, really hoping it matures a little over the next few years.
Getting even better
As this course matures it just gets better and better. Course conditions would have been 5 stars but front 9 greens being dressed but I appreciate that this needs to be done. Will definitely visit again (3rd visit this summer).
A Great Day of Golf
A Great Golf course that is still maturing & will only get better over the years.
