Avoid, shouldn’t be advertised as a golf course

Whilst I appreciate its volunteer run it’s not a playable course. It’s essentially 9 greens dotted around a common/open parkland with no tee boxes or fairways.

I thought I would check it out as it was near where we were staying but wanted to write this review to help others in a similar situation.

A hard slog but no illusions

I had no illusions having read the previous reviews but for a tenner I thought what the heck. To be fair the greens are really good but it's clear there's no money or perhaps opportunity to do much more. We played in the early evening and gave up after 9 as it's such a hard slog across fields/common land. It was so difficult to see where some of the tees were as there no direction signs, even using the course map is little help on some holes.

Perhaps the most frustrating element is the hordes of dog walkers who mostly take no notice of you playing golf and looked irked if you shout fore. We nearly hit a stray dog on the 8th with a drive (not much point in shouting fore to a dog) and when the owners finally came into view they slowly strolled off the "fairway" after releasing the slobber coated ball the dog had picked up. Also, watch out for mound of dog **** on the third hole where the walkers are most prevalent.

I'm glad we played and good luck to the club but I doubt we'll return sorry.

Very poor

The golf course is actually the village common where people walk their dogs. There was no one at the club house and no score cards or map of the course. It's a nine hole course and I couldn't find four of the holes. There are rabbit holes everywhere, I certainly wouldn't recommend this course at all.

Beccles golf course

Pleasant course, easy playing and no hold ups apart from the odd dog walker. Great course to learn on.

Don’t bother

As it’s common land people tend to sit down anywhere on the course, which is ok but be careful not to hit them. There are no fairways. Lots of gorse bushes. My friend lost three balls within four holes and they were straight shots. No directions from one hole to the next, some were a long walk. The greens were in fact very well looked after and the best thing on the whole course. My friend gave up after five holes really fed up with the very bad course. I couldn’t go, coming down with a sudden illness, went on Golf Now website and tried to cancel my game giving 30 hours notice but couldn’t get a refund . We will definitely not be returning to that golf course.

Don't bother

The fairway grass was calf deep and full of rabbit holes, it's a lottery that you find your ball even on a straight shot. The only thing going for this course is the greens which are in good shape.

Rabbit holes!

Loved the quirkiness of the course and the holes were decent. Greens were in good condition but the rest of the course is a large moss covered rabbit Warren with holes everywhere. For a tenner it was fine.

Unique

I loved playing Beccles golf course it is essentially a 9 hole with different tee boxes. The tee boxes need some attention and a bit of a paint job but the greens are tight and in excellent condition.

For me the essence of the course is playing on the common which feels wild and windswept , mashies and niblicks should be mandatory , proper!

An Experience

Carnage. The greens were actually very good. Course was creative, enjoyed the layout, but there is no fairways, and that’s not a joke. It’s basically, tee box, then wasteland with rabbit holes EVERYWHERE and rocks, then a nice green at the end. If you want a challenge and/or a mad game of golf for fun, give it a go. If you want a nice lie and serious golf, you won’t find that here.

I probably would play here again one day for the sheer madness of it, but it’s not for “serious” golf
