Rookery Park GC must visit

Very surprised that it was very green considering the extreme dry weather we have had in the last 4 weeks or so. The green were superb and the course was challenging but fair.

Superb Course

Had a fantastic round with the family. Great choice of tee box options. Superb course, lots of choice to practice too. Lovely clubhouse and very helpful staff throughout our visit especially in the pro shop.

Delighted to have reduced my handicap from this round. Will definitely be back when visiting parents.

Enjoyable first visit but with issues

There was a pleasant welcome on arrival at the pro shop, the staff were friendly and informative.

We were all impressed by the excellent practice greens and chipping area 👏

The course itself was very dry and brown, but so are most courses in the area due to the lack of rain. The course has an interesting layout with many good challenges throughout. The greens were good and well maintained, however, we didn’t enjoy the bunkers. Quite obviously, many lazy golfers who don’t know what the rakes were there for.

Unfortunately the one huge complaint is again about bunkers, two of our golfers damaged sand wedges due to striking huge foundation stones hidden slightly under the surface!! Irons are very expensive nowadays, we don’t expect to be damaging them in dreadful bunkers.

To summarise, a good course which is value for money. But our only recommendation would be to bring an old sand wedge with you, one which you don’t care about!

Right from the off!!

Right from the off I received nothing but smiling and friendly faces.

From the young guy in the Pro-Shop to sharing a laugh with players on the course followed by great bar service in the clubhouse.

I will be looking to play again tomorrow and joining in the near future.

I’m currently a member at Barnham Broom along with my 2 sons but I find the whole atmosphere fairly toxic there and people always tend to look down their noses at you.

I run a customer facing business and that is what makes this Club so welcoming.

Overall course in pretty good condition, however alot of pitch marks on the greens, slow play was a problem , took 4 hours to play 18 holes for a two ball, held up on front 9, then walked to the 10th to start back 9 passing the pro shop / clubhouse, and another 3 ball had jumped in front, we stood on the tee box looking at 2 groups on the fairway! The two ball we were following & the 3 ball that decided to jump in !! We were not amused!! Probably won’t go back for a while, shame as the facilities & the pro shop staff, we’re ok,,

More mud and puddles than a rally course....

Paths were dangerous and covered in mud....

9th and 11th holes closed

Fairways poor on the 1st 9 holes serious lack of grass more curnned up sticky mud than anything...

Avoid this course in winter months or after heavy rain it's not with the money

Rude members

Played rookery many times before and enjoyed it but today has really spoiled our perception of the club. As a 2 ball we teed off behind a 4 ball who the pro shop informed us had already teed off 10 minutes late. By hole 3 we had caught up with them but they would not let us play through. On hole 7 and 8 one of their party hit the green with his putter in anger, he also threw his club at one point. By hole 7 it became very frustrating as the 2 ball behind us began playing their shot to the green before we had even putted. Being held up by the group in front and rushed by the 2 behind. By hole 10 we decided to let the 2 ball play through so we could at least not have people rushing us.

The gentleman in the 2 ball acted like he had no idea he was playing up behind us quickly but then made it clear he knew the 4 ball were not letting us play through and informed us they had a pro playing in the group, as well as a green keeper. How a pro and green keeper allowed the angry man to hit the the greens with his putter is beyond me.

At hole 14 we noticed a snapped club in a bin which I assume was left by the angry golfer.

Greens weren't great and the green of hole 9 was 50% mud and should have had an emergency green in play.

So disappointed with today's experience as previously the rookery has being great to play at, but having 2 groups who clearly knew each other and were happy to ignore simple golfers equitette due to their own perceived importance was an insult and a waste of £60 of our money.

Such a shame..

Brilliant course

Thoroughly enjoyed this course, it was a challenge for sure, but so many interesting holes made it a memorable experience.

Holes are long, with many doglegs, but it's forgiving enough the tee to make it playable - after a very testing front 9, the back 9 is a welcome contrast that will give you a feel good as you finish.

Can't wait to play here again.
