Great course
Course in good condition greens were nice to putt on.
Got behind to fourballs but was allowed to play through .
Both members and staff were friendly . A lot of bunkers being refurbished but didn't detract from the enjoyment.
I did get the feeling they would rather you book direct with them rather than go thru golf now. I have had this feeling with several clubs not just bungay. This did not takeaway the enjoyment however and would certainly play again.
May be golf now should look into how they are treating the clubs who's tee times they are selling
All in all good course friendly staff. Would definitely play again.
Avoid at all costs
Despite immediately being treated like a 2nd class citizen due to booking through golfnow…
Despite conversing with the pro shop staff half an hour before a tee time with no issues. To then turn around and be told I’m not allowed (by the same lady I hasten to add) to play without a collared polo 2 minutes before my tee slot! Although I’m clearly wearing a Nike collarless polo top with Castore golf shorts; which in my opinion would adhere to their “simple and relaxed dress code” with no mention whatsoever of strict collar rules. “Approved recognised golf clothing” is all that is stated and I’m sure what I was wearing absolutely falls inside that category.
Lucky Day at Bungay
Lucky because the heavens opened as we got there. One hole and it dried up and the course gave us a good game.
The course needed the rain as it was very dry but the Tees and Greens had been looked after and were in good condition.
Good day, recommended.
1st time here
Usual booking procedure through GN on a hot deal.
Phoned pro shop prior to booking to enquire about course condition and was told that greens maintenance had not been done due to lack of rain. I'm spoiled at my home club (Harewood Downs) so this is the reason for my 3* rating of course conditions. Other local courses may be the same as this one so I may be being a little harsh. Also there's a mixture of bunker standards, some with lots of sand and no stones, others with lots of stones and a different type of sand so it looks like this is an an ongoing project.
On arrival, was told that I was joining 3 other non-local hot dealers, none of whom had played the course before. If this applies to you, get a health and safety safety map of the course from the pro shop.
There are a number of holes which cris-cross and sometimes you could get lost going from one hole to the next. There are some signs but not enough without the map.
All on all, a fun round. A number of blind tee shots so you need to make use of a periscope to see if it's safe to play. This instruction is on the map.
Would I return to play? Yes, but after experiencing some of the other local courses.
A "Must Play" Course
First time playing here yesterday so was not sure what to expect.
Started off at the pro shop which in my opinion is the best pro shop i have been inside for a very long time, stuff full of exceptional quality clothing and equipment. Staff and resident pro were extremely helpful, giving us tips on how to play certain holes and just a general overview of the course and facilities - could not do enough for us.
The course itself was in great condition, even with very little rain of late, the fairways were really good and the greens (recently poked) were fantastic, and varied.
Course layout was good, with a couple of crossover holes, but we played a full 18 holes without any hold ups or issue.
Clubhouse is welcoming, as were the staff, and facilities are as good if not better as any course
i have been to this year.
All in all a fantastic day, blessed with great weather - will be definitely back again soon.
Well Done !!
Nice course, below par treatment
Course condition was great. There were two frustrations which were that there were 4 buggies sat outside (tee time was early afternoon), when we asked about the cost to hire, we were told they were all booked, which didn’t appear to be the case as we saw no one on the course using them whilst we were out, and they were exactly as they were when we finished the round. We were also told about where not to take our trolleys on certain areas of the course as previously members have complained to the staff there about this, and that the staff didn’t want to have to come out and tell us where not to go. It all seemed fairly obvious but it came across as not particularly welcoming of non-members.
Bar staff were great though and we enjoyed the round overall.
Despite the huge deluge of rain , the greens were sublime. Best I’ve played on in a very long time.
James Braid Course
Lovely course. Fantastic greens very quick and some unusual slopes and shapes. There are some cross over holes but there are periscopes to check ahead. Good test of golf for all standards of players. Some confusion in the Pro Shop on arrival as I only booked when I got to the course as thought it might be raining. Despite being of advanced years and having played golf for 30+ years was treated like a new comer in way I was spoken to. Being a single figure golfer and having played lots of different courses I am aware of what roped off areas are and don't need be told or warned that plenty of members out there to inform them if I didn't observe them.
Amazing
This was the first time I had ever gone to this course. I was delighted to be welcomed by the shop staff and they were ever so helpful and kind. Helping me with any issues I had as well as walk me through the course lay out and a few tips. Overall, I would highly recommend and I will be coming back much more in the future.
Brilliant course
Fantastic course, well laid out and a great challenge.
A Special Place
Only played 10 holes due to Plantar Faciatis playing up, but really impressed with this lovely course which would have been more striking with green fairways. Some really nice shaped holes. Will worth a visit.
Good Tricky Layout
Unfortunately due to the lack of rain the course has suffered. The greens and the tee boxes are in good condition but the fairways are not good. They are scorched and in a number of cases there are potholes (from rabbits presumably).
That being said its a thinking person's course. I would like to play it again when the fairways are reconditioned and are green. I would certianly play it differently next time. There a number of 'blind' shots that you have to play and if you don't know where the hole is its quite difficult. This is made even harder because the fairways are like concrete and even with a good shot you are likely to ene up in the rough because the ball rolls for ever.
Surprisingly good
Challenging course with a nice quirky layout in places, particularly around the greens. Tight in places that require sensible club selection off the tee. Good overall condition, that I assume would hold up year round due to the sandy soil. Bargain for the price…well worth a visit.
Decent enough course
Played the course for the first time as a visitor on Sunday with a friend. We are both Scottish working in the area in which we are probably spoiled with choice at home which may reflect on this review.
The tee boxes were fantastic, fairways and general areas were quite poor but the fact it hadn’t rained for a number of weeks probably contributed. They were very patchy and rock solid and to be honest there was no benefit in hitting fairways over rough.
The greens were probably the best part of the course which a think reflects the higher price green fees we paid (£45) Sunday afternoon. We’ve played a handful of courses in the area as we have been working down here for around 3 months and these were by far best greens,
The last issue was even although we were allowed to pay on to the course we felt rushed all day as there was a county match behind us. Every other hole a different member of staff was coming out to tell us about this said match and to keep pace of play up. We were held up with a few groups in front of us so was completely out of our control. This took a bit of the enjoyment out our round.
In future I would recommend they don’t allow visitors and social groups right before a county match to avoid any problems.
