Golfer Reviews
Good value for money
I booked a round online via. GN which cost £15.99. When I arrived at the course there was plenty of parking. I logged in at the club shop and found it nice and easy with a friendly staff member. I played as a single ball and played 9 holes before I caught 2 x 2 balls. They both let me through without any hassle.
I thought the course was in good condition and greens were firm and true. I would have been happy to pay double for my round and I would definitely recommend to my friends.
Decent for the money
Tee boxes pretty good. Fairways in good nick. Greens very hard and a little bobbly. Enjoyed the round and excellent value, would play again and recommend to others due to value. Clubhouse and range could be better
Blake's
Course a lot better than it use to be .
Tee boxes good
Greens a bit bobbly due to long grass needed another cut. Although it's early in season so can't expect perfection still there is grass on all the greens as believe me was not before.
Etiquette could be better a lot of golfers walking around aimlessly which slowed things down somewhat, but put that down to the fact that most where young and inexperienced . However have to say for what we paid was good value.
You Can Always take your electric trolley to blakes
Blake's has some of the best drainage in Essex . Before booking i phoned 4 other courses and electric trolleys were not allowed. Not a problem at Blake's After a lot of overnight rain the course was still playable and the greens were very good apart from the plonkers who would not repair pitch marks. Had the vegetarian breakfast and it was very good .Staff very friendly . .
REAT ALL YEAR COURSE
The course was a bit boggy in parts but they do an amazing job to keep golf going throughout the year. The greens were in good condition, considering the time of year. Fairways a bit boggy but still in decent condition. Quite a few bunkers GUR, although it would have been hard to play out of them anyway, with the weather.
Overall it's a great course to play throughout the winter, staff are excellent and because of the layout you can have a buggy all year around, which helps with my older playing friend
Wet 'n' windy
I've played Blakes a few times, it's a good track with some interesting and challenging holes (it's not too difficult though). Hard to be too critical for it being wet and muddy, it's January after all, and the greens were pretty good.
What I can't stand is the slow play.
Turned up to find the course was super busy, someone had taken my tee time (I booked as a single player), no marshal keeping play moving, 2.5hrs to play the front 9 and so we didn't finish our round before it got dark. That's not really good enough (even for a cheap round)
Good value - recommended
Slow to get off as very busy day over holidays. Course in much better condition that last time played a number of years ago - greens very good condition for the time of year.
