Brailsford Golf Course

About
Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park, between Ashbourne and Derby in the village of Brailsford, sits this beautiful 12-hole golf course with scenic views of the surrounding Derbyshire countryside.
Consisting of gently undulating parkland with contrasting woodland terrain together with several water hazards, which attract diverse wildlife from swans, buzzards and oyster catchers to rabbits and pheasants.
Brailsford is a deceptively challenging test of golf. Ranging from difficult par 3’s in the form of the picturesque tree enclosed 4th and the 8th over water to several around 400 yard par 4’s and a par 5 dog-leg 9th, testing even the most gifted golfer.
The 12-hole layout at Brailsford Golf Course is ideal for those wanting a shorter form of the game without losing any of the enjoyment or the test of skill required, taking around three hours.
For those wanting 18 holes, the par 70 red course at just over 5,000 yards, is used by the lady members and is also ideally suited to junior golfers or beginners. The yellow course, at around 5,500 yards is ideal for all other golfers. The full 18-hole experience is a true test of golf. Utilising different tee positions for six of the holes, which as a result means holes can vary as much as 80 yards in length.

Great course at a great price
Brailsford is a challenging 12 hole course where you replay 6 holes for the full 18.
It has some very memorable holes such as the par 3 4th into the pines and the par 3 8th over the pond, as well as the difficult par 5 9th dogleg around the field.
The course has been in great condition through winter and is already playing well into spring.
There’s a driving range as well although only maxes out at 250 before a fence protecting the 4th green.
Balls vanish in the rough rough!
The fairways are ok but the rough is too overgrown, so too many balls lost despite having a good round.
Great course. Friendly staff
Great course. A little confusing when playing the last 6 again and others are just starting off
Could be better
Very good value for money. Some very nice holes, especially the par 3s. Tees were a bit on the rough side and the greens were slow. Very nice clubhouse and very friendly staff.
Over charged me
I booked for 2 people which went on my credit card . When I arrived they said only 1 golfer had been paid for and charged me again . I’ve since checked my credit card statement and I’ve been charged for 2 golfers and paid for another on my debit card . Not happy
Avoid in winter
Course is far too wet to play even with just a little rain, drainage is non existent and you will loose arround 4-5 balls per round even if you hit every fairway just due to the fact that they sink arround 2-3 inches below the fairway upon impact. Greens are a guessing game with bald patches and bare dirt even in the summer. Not bad for a quick knock round after work but definitely not the best.
Very nice place but shouldn’t of really been open as it was to wet
Worth a try - better in summer Sun
Played this course in December - and my review is mostly written in a comparative fashion.
Course layout - this course is for the accurate long hitter. Many par 4s tempt you into cracking the driver. There are some tight ish woodland fairways. Hazards include streams, ponds, woodland and swans!
I wouldn’t recommend playing in and round wet weather conditions. It near to a fair amount of water - pond and streams. The course in general lends itself to heavy because of this. It is far better in the summer, you might be thinking so are most places - I’m simply saying make sure you book it many days away from rain because the course doesn’t drain well.
Greens let it down for a full price round £27+ they aren’t very big unfortunately. In fairness to the staff - the rest of the course is well kept - the layout is tricky and makes you think. It’s worth the £10-15 range in my opinion.
There’s a lovely club house that serves nice food and was a good atmosphere. Nice driving range available beforehand and very well located off the A52.
Lovely course
Set out well, some challenging holes and kept well,
Will go again
