Brailsford Golf Course

About
Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park, between Ashbourne and Derby in the village of Brailsford, sits this beautiful 12-hole golf course with scenic views of the surrounding Derbyshire countryside.
Consisting of gently undulating parkland with contrasting woodland terrain together with several water hazards, which attract diverse wildlife from swans, buzzards and oyster catchers to rabbits and pheasants.
Brailsford is a deceptively challenging test of golf. Ranging from difficult par 3’s in the form of the picturesque tree enclosed 4th and the 8th over water to several around 400 yard par 4’s and a par 5 dog-leg 9th, testing even the most gifted golfer.
The 12-hole layout at Brailsford Golf Course is ideal for those wanting a shorter form of the game without losing any of the enjoyment or the test of skill required, taking around three hours.
For those wanting 18 holes, the par 70 red course at just over 5,000 yards, is used by the lady members and is also ideally suited to junior golfers or beginners. The yellow course, at around 5,500 yards is ideal for all other golfers. The full 18-hole experience is a true test of golf. Utilising different tee positions for six of the holes, which as a result means holes can vary as much as 80 yards in length.

An excellent round
Now I've played here many times but not on my own. The weather and ground conditions were perfect and this ended up being a great day on the course.
The staff at the clubhouse were brilliant and shout out to the girls behind the bar who were exceptional. A nod to the club members too who were very welcoming
Great starter course
Lovely little par 12 course, perfect for players new to the game. Course condition was very good with reasonable paced true greens. Mix of dog leg and straight holes all fairly straight forward. I will be returning shortly with my son who’s new to the game.
Overall £14 very well spent !
Winter Golf
First round of the year, course in decent condition for Feb. I liked the addition of the divot bags, hope people use them, just like I hope ball marks are repaired on greens, some players just neglect this which is unfortunate.
Will be back in Spring/Summer, hope the greens improve this season as deteriorated last year.
Clubhouse was excellent as always, great food and good value for money.
Always an enjoyable, challenging round.
Beginner
Not been playing long as retired now just taken golf seriously challenging but enjoyable course thank you for the welcome
A good winter golf course
Overall it was a very good winter golf course, in the summer i can see this being a very good course. Pretty much every hole was different and some of the holes were very nice to play.
Cant wait to come back and play in the summer.
100% great value
Great value, very friendly staff and all round great course from start to finish very professionally taken care of would recommend to anyone at any level.

Not worth £20 in current condition
I know is early in the season but should not have to pay £20 a player for a course in such bad condition , wasn’t worth putting

Thank you for your comment. We are disappointed that you did not feel that you enjoyed value for money. Unfortunately you played during our Spring greens maintenance week. We did communicate this information via the booking channels as we do know that the greens are not at their best during such work. We still believe that our special winter rates offer good value for money and hope to see you again now that the greens are well on their way to recovery.

Unplayable greens
Now I will keep this as short as I can and I would upload a photo but it will not allow me to do so. I will start with the positive, the staff are lovely and the clubhouse snacks and drinks are great along with the course layout. The greens, where to start, most of the greens are patchy and literally unplayable with the ball bouncing everywhere it is honestly like playing crazy golf sometimes, the greens haven’t been great here for years but this year they are at an all time low and I would not be accepting money from customers if I was running the course because it is that bad. Now people may be thinking I’m over exaggerating but I’m not, I have played here for years with it being local and cheap but I will now never return until the greens are sorted because it is such a waste of time. I don’t understand how it can get so bad I really don’t, the greenkeeer either needs help and training or you may need a new one because you are loosing so much custom from local golfers (word of mouth in the local area) and it is such a shame. My best advice for the course would be stop spending money on improvements to the aesthetics of the course when the course is in an awful state to play on, concentrating on the care of the greens, fairways and tee boxes ( I know there is a lovely new one so good job there) before anything else. Now I understand that you have been trying to improve the greens so I have seen on social media but whatever you have done has made it much worse than before.
Awful greens
This was my first time on this course. It is a nice course, but with 12 greens and 18 ,holes,. This system can lead to waiting around, but at the time we played wasn’t really a problem. The main issue was the greens; they were poor. I have never had the misfortune to play on anything as bad even on municipal courses. I would not play it again unless there was a huge improvement. Putting was a complete lottery.

Saturday 12
Chose to just play 12 holes rather than 18 although we were able to play 18, repeating holes we’d played didn’t appeal to us.
Greens could be in better shape.
The course was very congested over the first four holes due to the lay out of the course, a glut of tee times And some unnecessary slow play.
Course becomes more interesting from holes 5-10. Not a bad little course and for £15 I probably shouldn’t grumble.
Wednesday game
Lovely clubhouse overlooking the course, fairways in good condition, greens were a little slow but well kept, alot of work going on to improve the course, new paths and tees, which will make this little place even better in my opinion, some interesting holes, very enjoyable day, thank you
