What a delight, great greens, tee boxes in excellent condition and course was challenging and fun. The whole place has a classy feel well worth a visit.
Great Course
Second time we have played here. For me it’s the best in Nottingham. Greens are perfect and the surroundings are beautiful. I think this will be the club I make our own. Membership awaits if they’ll have us.
Excellent
Have to say horsely Lodge was a cracking course. It felt like home. Friendly staff and a very playable course. Greens were great, some cracking holes, steeped in history too. Some short quirky par 4’s but a decent length course making it challenging too. Pace of play was slow as I was sandwiched between seniors in a club comp. But I wasn’t in a hurry and still got round in just over 4 hours. One thing I will mention, anyone with a Garmin watch might have the same issue I did. The 1st and the 10th used to be the other way around so after the confusion I located the right hole my watch was telling me I was on. But had a great morning and well worth a visit.
Decent condition
Course was in decent condition and the 4th and 5th are open again. Like most courses could do with some rain as very dry and crusty in parts. Greens always in decent condition.
Great course and set up.
Really fun front 9 with lots of variation to the course! Back 9 is a bit longer and more challenging. Great course overall.
Restaurant has recently been renovated and provides great post golf food and drinks!
Great Venue - be really good in the warmer / dryer months
Outstanding venue with huge potential, staff & members friendly and welcoming. Course very wet and greens spiked within and inch of their life making them rough & ready but it is February and they look like they will be good once the weather picks up., 4th & 5th we’re closed which was disappointing to find out on arrival. Some great looking holes, great layout and a definite revisit soon. Clubhouse and Restaurant will be great once work being done finished. A good place to hold a Golf Day or big day celebration.
Excellent as usual
Overall excellent.
Only gripe is bunkers low on sand.
Horsley does it well
First time playing this course and very impressed. Very friendly staff and course conditions were good (would have been excellent but a number of holes had drainage cuts within the fairways).
Very varied holes and a good test for a mid to low handicapper. High handicaps would likely lose a lot of balls!
Nice course just the wrong day to play it
We arrived for our teatime however the computer systems were down so we were told to follow the group on tee as it wasn’t too busy. We were then approached by two members telling us it’s there tee time and we have to wait, I replied and said well if your ready go in which he said “ well we are not ready yet so just go “. As we were longish hitters we found the fact that the same two members that followed us were teeing off before we had even got to our tee shots and also playing approach shots to greens when we were putting which was not nice to experience especially as in all the years of being a member at Coxmoor I’ve never experienced other members like this
Greens!! As we paid out green fees were were told that the greens were having a little work done , well on this particular day there was no green to speak of at all. They had been top dressed that heavily that it was almost impossible to putt and totally ruined the round , they had also been spiked heavily which I understand has to be done but the dressing was so think and stony it was the worst I’ve been on hence the title ( played on the wrong day )
Lovely course in beautiful countryside
Fantastic course in beautiful condition. Good layout and course was almost empty. Greens had just been hollow tined which was unfortunate and were fairly dry. Nice clubhouse with good food.
Good pace of play
We played late on in the afternoon took us just over 3 hours, course in good condition. Looks like they lost a couple of fairways in the winter when it was wet, work going on with drainage doesn’t impose on course. An enjoyable round on a good course, decent challenge off the back tees.
Excellent
Top class course, fantastic greens whole course is challenging for all levels
