Great course but very busy
First time playing the course as a fairly average golfer. Found it really challenging in a good way! I think most people would find it fun as well as testing. Amazing scenery as you go round and some very memorable picturesque holes. Only downside was it was very busy making it hard to take it all in. We were a 2 following 2 threesomes. We didn’t mind being backed up and waiting until they were safely off greens or out of wayward driving range but the people behind us kept wanting to play through or telling us when they think we should hit our shots. Many of the holes cross over each other so you can correctly be waiting for people to cross before teeing off and get some comments of the regulars, or balls being hit when you’re not clear - but that’s golf these days. If it was booked out with 3-4’s all day you’ll likely be standing about a lot with the tee times available - it’s a course that could do with an extra 5mins per group to space people out. That being said it might have just been a particularly busy/slow day and the course itself was very good. I would definitely go again or recommend to others.
Interesting course
Chiltern Forest is a very interesting course.. reasonably short but has its own unique challenges... some holes are very tight and it is very hilly.
unfortunately many of the tee boxes have been resown so there were a number of temporary tees but give it a few more weeks and many will be back in use which will increase the length a little bit..
Likewise the greens were still recovering from coring but will be excellent in another couple of weeks.
But all in all its a fun track and I recommend a visit.
Hilly
Tea boxes are very spread out. And the hills are ridiculous
You need a buggy to play this course
Gorgeous Course
We loved our round - gorgeous surroundings and a fun course to play.
Incredible find
First time playing this course. Recommended by a friend. Super friendly in the pro shop and restaurant/clubhouse.
The course was an absolute delight. Super tight and testing. Greens in great nick. Very undulating with some steep climbs but buggies are available to rent. Will definitely play again.
Birthday society match
Today 25 Nov 16 golfers turned up to play the course with tee times booked from 11-00 hrs, we were made welcome in the lounge and had coffee and bacon rolls which were very good. On the way to the first tee we were advised that the back 9 would be open as the green keepers were hollow timing the fairway's. We all enjoyed the course and accepted that the fairways were muddy in places, when we returned back to the clubhouse at around 15-25 we were told by a very unhappy barmaid that she had been waiting 3 hours and that the bat was closing at 16-00 hrs. We all managed to have one drink whilst the prize giving was underway when she pulled the shutters down on the bar. Frankly I have to say that her behaviour was totally unacceptable and she needs to undertake some customer training very soon. Had she have given the customers another 10 minutes the club would have had another £100 over the bar. It was a very disappointing ending to what was a great day of golf. All other staff were very helpful and friendly. Regards Chris Jackson
What a gem
Great course, amazing views, so good we booked it again the week after.
Friendly, criss cross course
I was paired with 2 other very friendly Golf Now players who had played the course before (it was like having my own caddy 😀). This helped me navigate a tricky criss crossing course that is hilly in parts. Overall, I had an enjoyable round and would recommend the course and I will play there again soon.
Lovely Course
Course was immaculate and very well kept throughout! Very hilly a good walk out and challenging course even though it’s not very long.
Holes crossing fairways and the significant hills can make for slightly slow play but worth it for some of the holes as the whole course was in amazing condition.
Would go back and play without a doubt!
Tough walk !
2nd time playing here, very quirky course with some stunning views and a really good mix of holes. It is a really hard walk though, lots of steep hills and rounded off with a killer climb up the 16th ! Even with a battery powered trolley, its tough, our group all agreed, we would probably hire buggies next time !
The staff were super friendly and welcoming and a good selection of beers in the bar afterwards. Only downside were 2 or 3 of the greens had some pretty bad animal damage, and they had all recently been hollow tined - the speed of them wasn't particularly consistent.
Lovely scenic course.
A tough walk as very undulating but really a great setting and a pleasure to play.
Scenic views a pity about the greens
Been a few years since played here but remember the views & the quality of the greens, alas they had all been hollow tined covered in sand with no prior warning, appreciate it needs doing but in the middle of August?
Once bedded I'm the sure the greens will be back upto scratch, staff all pleasant & friendly, suggest leave it a few weeks before playing but nice views.
Chiltern forest
First time playing this course and it did not disappoint, greens in excellent condition not the fastest I have played but a true roll and consistency through 18 holes.Tee boxes in very good condition as were the fairways with a good level of green grass ( I have paid double the green fee elsewhere and the courses have not in as good condition will definitely return soon. This is a challenging course and if you were having an off day your card would definitely reflect it.
Challenging and great condition
Great mix of holes all with their own traps and challenges to negotiate.
Pace of play wasn’t terrible, but a bit slow - I think in part due to the nature of the overlapping holes (up down and across at times) there’s always a reason to have to wait and be quiet so as not to disturb or disrupt other.
Will definitely be back, had a really great time and would recommend to golfers if any level, bit of a mix of abilities in our group and a great time was had by all. Thank you!
Excellent as always
First time reviewing, the course is immaculate at the moment. Greens and fairways are luscious and green. This place is a great value for money as well. Putting some of the snootier clubs in the area to shame!
Weekday single
Considering the hot dry year we’ve had the course is in amazing condition, still lash and green, with fast and true greens. Some tough climbs with my push trolley, but a real treat with lots of variety to the holes in this compact layout.
