Forest Creek Golf Club
About
Designed by Dick Phelps, Forest Creek Golf Club has been named "Best Public Golf Course in Central Texas" by Golf Digest as well as "Golf Club of the Year" by Club Corporation of America. Phelps' design features plush, narrow fairways, and its namesake Forest Creek that comes into play on 11 holes. Many of the holes dogleg, and its most difficult holes are the long par 4s. These holes are especially evident on the back nine, with holes 10, 15, and 18 all playing well over 400 yards. The 15th is the most difficult, playing a bogey-welcoming, par 5-like 472 yards.

Challenging Round
Kudos to the Course Marshall - he was friendly.at all times, visible throughout the round - and most importantly, enforced the pace of play. I was playing as part of a twosome paired with two golfers we did not know. At some point mid-round, we were behind by 8 minutes behind. The Marshall respectfully nudged us to pick up the pace .
There were some wet/muddy spots on the course that did not appear to be weather related.
Brutal Pace of Play
I showed up 30 minutes before my 10:50 am tee time yesterday and was told that there was a delayed start due to morning frost. I only teed off at 11:50 am (an hour after I was supposed to play) and there was such a build up of golfers that the pace of play was unbearable, waiting 15 minutes at each hole for the teebox to free up. If you are going to delay tee times by an hour and have the course this backed up, a phone call or text would have been great. Wouldn't have wasted my Sunday like this if I had known.
Fantastic
Book this and play with no hesitations. Excellent course layout, conditions, and staff. Highly recommend.
Golfer
It’s always a pleasure to play at Forest Creek. I play there at least once a month and would more often but I have to drive across Austin to get there, at least 45 minutes. Course and greens always in great shape. Fun to play yet challenging
Golf shop and grill staff couldn’t be nicer, always a smile and helpful.
A nice course for the money
The course was in very nice shape, especially for this time of year and one day after a heavy rain. It was our first time playing here, and we enjoyed it. It's a nice touch to get a sleeve of balls and a coupon for a free hot dog/sausage wrap and draft beer at the snack bar. I will come back again for sure.
Revisiting Forest Creek
It had been about 7 years since I last visiting Forest Creek, but finally got back out for a pre-Thanksgiving round.
I heard they had made some upgrades to the course, and it showed. The practice areas are quite nice and very above average... really one of the better setups in town.
The landscaped areas throughout the course were also very pleasant and conditions were quite good. The greens definitely had a little heat in them!
The layout remains as quirky as I'd remembered. The tree on number 2 continues to haunt me. It was a pretty windy day, but it seemed like 7 and 9 were the only holes downwind... and of course that just makes those drives even trickier!
I gotta give it up... since my last visit my two biggest complaints (pace of play and friendliness of the staff) were more than resolved. Even on a crowded day we got around in just over 4 hrs and the staff was super friendly. I should find my way back in less than 7 years... and so should you!
Fall Golf
Great day and nice course conditions
.Greens we’re fast and rolled well even with the heavy play. Bunkers were in great shape with good sand. Play was relatively slow but all else was well and made for a pleasant round
Challenging course
Nice challenging layout. Most greens elevated. Ground was fairly soft in front of greens and most of my shots came up short. It was windy when I played and that made club choice difficult. Several holes require precise shot placement from tee.
The cart came with bottles of water. Pro shop staff friendly and helpful.
Greens were in very good condition and were deceptively fast.
If I had reserved my tee time through the course I could have gotten a senior rate and saved $11 over the online booking.
Longest round ever
I'll start with what was good about the round. The course is in good shape, and the jalapeno sausage wrap was great.
No for the bad part. This round took 6 hours! They obviously had too many people on the course. At every tee box, the group in front of us was still teeing off, and the group behind us was there before we could finish teeing off.
We had a coupon for a beer and hot dog or sausage wrap, so we stopped at the grill after 9 (3 hours). The line was insanely long, but there were two groups waiting to tee off on 10. So, we decided to get in line. After 20 minutes waiting, they were out of my first and second choice for beer.
There were no marshals anywhere to be found until the 15th hole. The only thing he had to say was that it's always slow when there is a tournament. What are we supposed to take away from that? Do they think the tournament is more important than the other groups? Or worse, is it somehow my fault for booking a round on the same day as a tournament. I hope they made a ton of money from that tournament because they'll never get another dime from me.
