Forest Creek Golf Club
About
Designed by Dick Phelps, Forest Creek Golf Club has been named "Best Public Golf Course in Central Texas" by Golf Digest as well as "Golf Club of the Year" by Club Corporation of America. Phelps' design features plush, narrow fairways, and its namesake Forest Creek that comes into play on 11 holes. Many of the holes dogleg, and its most difficult holes are the long par 4s. These holes are especially evident on the back nine, with holes 10, 15, and 18 all playing well over 400 yards. The 15th is the most difficult, playing a bogey-welcoming, par 5-like 472 yards.

Would wait
Lots of greens under maintenance, lots of sod ripped up. Hole 16 closed. Hole 3, par 5, turned into two different holes. One is a par 3, the other par 4. You still play 18 holes but its not the same Forest Creek.
First timer
Fun course. I can tell this place used to be amazing in its early years. Fun, challenging layout. Back 9 definitely plays longer and harder than the front, so get your birdies early. Alot of doglegs, and a couple of holes where you can't hit driver because of the fairway runout. Fairways were good. The sides had a couple bare spots. Front nine greens were pretty decent, but the back are having some trouble, but most are puttable, except for 1, which was pretty brutal. Tee boxes were ok. I can't fraction the stars, but condition would be more like a 3.6. And considering Austin courses right now, 3.6 is pretty good. Find a weekday to go play Forest Creek, because it's not worth what they're asking for on the weekends.
Tough times
I've been playing Forest Creek for 25+ years and think yesterday is the worst condition I have ever seen the course (other than the ice storm a couple of years ago). To be clear, I saw the grounds crew all over the place. . . they are very obviously trying to address the problems but they have major issues. Should be paying about $25 to play right now. My favorite track in Central Texas. Really hoping they can recover but really irritated that they are not adjusting the pricing to reflect. Pace of play was not great either.
What happened?!?!
For the record, I was a member at Forest Creek for 10+ years. It’s my favorite course in Central TX. A few years back, they changed management companies and the greens went to heII. They closed the course for almost a year & reestablished the greens and renovated the course. It was in pristine condition in 2022. Unfortunately, the greens have gone to heII, again! And to make matters worse, the rates have gone up.. this was the first time I played the course in 6 months, it will probably be another 6 months before I go back. So much potential wasted. City of Round Rock needs to make some drastic changes.
Fun, interesting course
Played for the first time with my sons. We loved it. Staff was courteous, friendly and efficient. It was a busy Saturday, but we teed off exactly on time and finished in 4-1/2 hours. Never waited to hit a shot. Some greens were a little rough but overall the course was in good shape. Nice variety of hole layouts and challenges. We will play it again.
Love Layout, Greens need Help
Always enjoy the layout presented at Forest Creek, was dissapointed to see the greens in such poor shape. IN hte past FC has painted the greens during winter and not sure if that is killing the grass but in a lot of areas it was just now painted dirt or sandy dirt/grass. The clear out and grass cutting done in "rough" areas was a welcomed update.
Greens are really bad
Good fairways and tee boxes but greens were in really bad shape. Many had significant dead spots, thin grass and lots of dirt for surface. Quality of the greens has really declined.
Enjoyable and a good value
Pros: price was reasonable and even included a free dog, free beer and free small bucket. The staff in the pro shop was very nice, the snack bar not so much. Driving range is OK but we had to hit off mats. Fairways were good for this time of year. The greens are not great but they putted pretty true. It just looks like they are struggling to keep the greens healthy. There are some bald spots here and there. Overall, I don't think the greens were a serious drawback unless you are picky. Overall, we had a very enjoyable experience, well worth the green fee. This is an interesting track and some holes are quirky but fun. Recommended.
Great Layout!
Fun layout, course was in good shape, overall an enjoyable experience!
Bad Management
Yesterday I played at Forest Creek and I have played here many times before. When I have played here before, if you reserve a teatime before noon, you’re supposed to get a deal for a free hotdog and drink and small bucket of range balls. They told me because I booked through GolfNow. They would not honor this deal when they have many times in the past. Also the greens were in absolutely horrendous condition. There were many bear spots or spots were grass was in very bad shape. They were not rolling even at all. The managers were also very rude when I tried to explain that I’ve gotten the deal many times in the past. For the money, there are much better courses to go to in the area.
Not bad, but overpriced
Overall, it’s a good course. Some greens had some trouble spots on them, but they aren’t the worst I’ve played on. Cart girl came around twice within the first 5-6 holes, but none after that. Finally saw a different one once we were already on 18. Definitely need to stay on top of that as we would’ve been buying every time she came around. I’ll play here again and hope things are a tad better.
A painful experience
FIVE HOUR AND TEN MINUTE ROUND.
No marshal activity to fix the problem. Called pro shop during the round, and nobody answered the phone. And this was on a Monday. Makes for a very low probability of playing here again.
Tee boxes and fairways were in fair condition. Sand traps were in good condition. Most greens were rough.
Greens are rough
Too much money for the conditions. Greene were in bad shape, lots of dead spots and pained dirt. Need to lower prices or get the course back in good shape.
Good course
Greens need help. A lot of areas need repair. Overall a good course. Played easily in 4 hours.
Thoroughly disappointed in the green condition at this time. Price way out of line to current course condition. I’ll give them a long break to get it together
