Cocks Moors Woods Golf Course

Haven't played this course in a good few years, it was great to be back here! Course is under new management and newly appointed green staff. Can see the hard work going into the course, hopefully returning to it's former glory very soon. Course is in great condition and for the price it's an absolute no brainer! When the greens pick up speed, it will be a true test for any level of golfer! Will definitely be back, cheers guys!

Fantastic news new green keeper and its already starting to look great .steve and matt in the shop are ready to help with grips all the way to trolleys .my time should give there heads a good shake .rumours of the shop shutting must not be true .the public rely on the shop and its a comunity so my time dont take away a great future at cocks moor .ok open a cafe BUT keep the shop otherwise it will destroy a great safe venue

Course is so much better greens are really nice compared to last month they are trying really hard fair play team 👏

On arrival the staff in the club shop were very friendly and helpful and the golf course was really good i would recommend family or friends to go a have a round of golf.

Unfortunately a once well maintained course has been poorly managed and has gone to ruin

The rough is currently 2feet high

And walking from tee to fairway on certain holes is like a trolley car wash as there are no paths through the rough to the fairway

There has been some work done but it’s a long way from perfect

Hence my 2 star review and that’s being generous

Course in poor condition fairways long and greens. Rough is ridiculous miss fairway and you lose a ball as its waist high it’s a shameful as course lay out is great

Finally got 18 full greens after nearly 2 years

And the fairways are terrible (searching for balls in the middle of the fairway)

The rough between holes is at a ridiculous length making finding or if you’re lucky enough to find and then playing impossible

I first started playing Golf here back in the 00's and it was decent for starters. Now its sad to see whats happened to it. Many older golfers have told me that back in the 80's and 90's this Course was up there with the best. I can only presume that Mytime golf must be struggling for money as this course is majorly uninvested in. It could be a real gem with some really characteristic holes but currently its a sad state of affairs. £14 for 18 holes was way overpriced. I dont think id olay there even if it was free. The fairways are like the rough at the US Open and if you dont hit the fairway you've got no chance. If you must insist on playing here take plenty of balls and leave you best ones at home. Won't be going back im afraid. Waste of £14

Very poor the course was badly looked after fairways were barely cut and nothing else been cut for a long time by the looks of it there’s no 1st cut at all if you not on the fairways uv lost your ball very overgrown everywhere was very disappointed played there many times years ago it’s never been that bad and I certainly won’t be playing again it’s a shame because the staff friendly and course could be very nice if they looked after it

What was once a decent municipal golf course, is now a new concept in golf.

Why have a box tee when you can have a few tuffs of grass on a mound of dry mud.

Fairway? That's old school. How about roughly mown grass that your local park would be ashamed of. To make the new concept bed in the green keepers have added a new hazard to golf, mounds of grass cuttings on the fairway. Crunched your drive? Well done. Now try and find your ball. Lucky to find it? Now try hitting it.

Found the green? Once your reach the target destination you soon discover that these greens are not your normal golf greens. Grass is a variety of lengths, the added grass cuttings (I've now discovered this is a feature of the course) are added to make your putt even trickier, divots and an assortment of other obstacles are included to add to the experience.

Now let's get to the rough. If you thought a wetherspoons on a Saturday night was rough I suggest you head to Cocksmore Woods. If you have the misfortune to hit the rough that's the end of that golf ball for the round.

I have played this course for over thirty years, it is a real shame to see it in this condition. I am actually thinking that My Time are running in into the ground in order to sell it to a housing developer.

A real shame. I won't be returning.

Shocking lack of care for what used to be a nice course.

I only played 5 holes. Played at course for over 30 year and can honestly say it the worst condition I’ve ever seen it in. When you get there 10 &11 and 1st fairway looks great but when you get out on to the course fairways are like rough and if you miss the fairway by a couple of inches you lose your ball because the rough is 6to8 inches long deeper in places and greens are diabolical they don’t look as if they been cut in weeks so save your money and play at a course that is well maintained and looked after. MY RECOMMENDATION IS GIVE IT MISS

Friendly staff in pro shop. This course along with all of the ex Birmingham municipal courses need tlc particularly on the greens and tees. In its present condition it's OK to play if it's cheapish as its still a good test and a good course layout (the 11th the pick of the bunch). Will return but oh so wish they'd spend some money on it and return it to its former glory!

I'm new to playing Golf, having played the odd round last year, with no idea what I was doing and since January 2026 have been to the driving range twice per week and have played 4 rounds of Golf, so please view it through this lens.

The weather was mild and the grass was dewy so also bare this in mind.

Having booked to play on a Friday in March at 10:44am and completely new to the course I was very thankful to both be welcomed by a member of staff who was incredibly welcoming and very helpful with setting up an electric trolley for hire & giving me a brief overview of the course and made the start of the day genuinely that much better. I was told nobody else was booked on so I had the course to myself, incredible news, especially for a beginner! This alone would make me want to come back.

Having played at Widney & Hatchford Brook (both around Solihull / West Midlands are) I'd say the tee's weren't very well kept by comparison. Tee boxes where artificial grass once had been were mouldy and overgrown, and the grass to tee off in general was long and un-cut. Also not every hole was clearly numbered, nor was hole yardages, nor the directions to each hole. So it did make it a bit of a nightmare going round if you don't have a map. Luckily the scorecard I had had a map on, so its ESSENTIAL if you don't know the course to have this otherwise you will get lost / skip holes.

Despite the long-grass on fairways, the greens were generally okay, slow, but playable. The odd bunker did have a scraping tool but also a few were missing. Littered around the outside of the course was a fair amount of rubbish unfortunately but it didn't get in the way of play. I think partly due to it being in a less economically developed area.

Personally I found it the most varied course out of the 3 I've played, Widney & Hatchford Brook. With long par 5's, challenging par 3's at different gradients, and the best challenge for me personally was the varying heights & lye's of the course.

I genuinely do think the course has quite a bit of potential, and especially during fair weather if the grass is cut it could genuinely be a brilliant little spot to play.

The club shop also does have drinks for sale, clubs for sale, trolleys for hire, pre-loved golf balls for sale also if you're short on some, lessons available and genuinely all lovely people. As well as a practice putting green outside before the first hole.

Having also being on the grounds of a leisure centre you could also go in for a Swim after (with wavepool), and they also do sell good food in there, pizza, chips etc, and offer other classes. So it's a place that if you were local could easily become a bit of hub for you.

Ultimately for the Friday with nobody around, with great service and a challenging varied course, I'd say it was reasonable value for money. Would I pay more for it in its current state, probably not. But if you were on a budget like me and are new to the game, happy to just play golf and not think too much about perfection, it is absolutely fine. Sometimes you get what you pay for and I'd say this is probably it.

Plenty of potential, but come in with realistic expectations.

I know this is a municipal course and maybe I expected a little to much but, I am a member of a municipal courts myself.

Upon arrival, we were informed that hole 7 was closed, so that was annoying to start the round.

Now this was our first visit to Cocks Moor Woods GC and it is a challenging course from hole 1.

Our frustration started when we got to hole 6 because none of the holes were clearly marked and even asking, some fellow golfers, didn't help either.

It is, difficult enough, playing winter golf but when it is compounded with no direction to the next tee or even holes numbered it becomes very frustrating.

I don't think we will be paying a visit to this course again.
