Just keeps getting better

The course continues to improve and is sooooo much better than it was last year.

Fabulous value for money, the course layout is wonderful and the staff are always super friendly even though they are fighting a battle to keep the course in the condition it is.

Myself and my wife play this course several times a month and rarely walk away without a smile on our faces. The greens are a work in progress as are the bunkers but they have improved dramatically over the past couple of months. Thanks

Getting better

What a lovely afternoon playing Cocks Moors. For £12.50 it’s a great little practice course and yes the greens aren’t great but they have improved since the last time I played here. The course layout is great and it has some very challenging holes.

If your learning to playing or like me wanting to get back into the swing of things then you couldn’t ask for more.

The staff couldn’t be more friendly and it won’t be long until my next game.

Never ever gets better

Conditions never improve, this is a basic practice course at best. The greens are not tended, the bunkers resemble building sites, the fairway is basically the first cut of rough.

Such a shame

The layout of the course is good. We played on Saturdays afternoon. It’s great value for money however the green conditions are poor. Clearly some vandals had turfed up 90% of the greens on their bikes. Made putting mostly impossible. The bunker conditions are terrible. A lot had plants and weeds growing all over them. Fairways good for the time of year. Greens very slow when you could putt and not maintained that well.

A great practice course

Read the reviews before hand but gave it a go anyway. Once upon a time the course would have been spectacular but there are not enough funds injected. It’s a great practice course. Tees and fairways are fair. The greens are being ravaged by anti social dirt bikers. The rough is exactly that. Lovely walk. The staff are super helpful and trying to fight the battle. The more people that use the course the more funds will be available and maybe block the access points where the bikers get through. Good value for money and I will definitely return… give it a try is all I would say.. happy golfing

First time playing the course

Please read!!!

This is a beautiful course ruined by the local kids who ride their bikes over the course and target the greens.

The layout of the course is stunning and it’s such a shame about the greens but everything else is really nice.

People complaining about the rough and the fairways I seriously don’t understand as it just adds to the challenge of this course.

The staff are very friendly but can’t do anything about the dozen kids on bikes and from what they say, the police don’t do anything surprise surprise!!!

Thanks, we had a really lovely afternoon playing the course and we will be back for another round.

It’s a shame ⛳️

Played yesterday morning and staff were so honest mentioning that fairways were great but rough was so deep,as for the greens they were sometimes unplayable as bike tracks all over the greens, the problem is the course is just not looked after by the people who own it,I have to say that the staff are trying their hardest to maintain it,it’s such a shame as it was a really great course many moons ago😢

Cocks moor wood gc

Don’t play this course, the greens are an absolute disgrace, not only are they very long and don’t look they’ve been cut in a week, but it looks as if kids have rode motorbikes all over them. The fairways are ok, the tees are shocking and the rough is a joke, the long grass has been cut and just left.

Luckily the course was really empty, as we were looking for golf balls for such a long time.

We had had enough after 10 holes and walked off, luckily the pro shop was closed, I would have gone in and complained, as we wasn’t made aware of the course beforehand

Can’t moan for the money!

As titled value for money, but the motorbike tracks around the greens and fairways impact the play. Not a lot the staff can actually do about that apart from try repairing it as they are.. signage from hole to hole could be improved, greens wasn’t very short and slow and some fairway were like the rough but for 18 holes for £12.5 can you really moan….i will be going back :-)

Awful course

The shocking state of repair of this course is appalling and could be so easily improved by employing green keepers who do their job properly.

There is no excuse that this course has been left to reach this sorry state. Greens resemble the fairway, bunkers full of weeds and compacted sand/mud, uncut grass on so much of the fairway leading to huge numbers of lost balls.

The cost should be halved to represent the fact this is now a very basic practice course.

Birmingham City Council hang your head in shame

I started playing golf 30 years ago learning the ins and outs of the game on the many local municipal golf courses of Birmingham, and back then these 5 or 6 golf courses were kept really well, tidy and manicured. I hadn't played Cocksmoors Woods for many years so we thought we would revisit our youth and go back and play this course as more accomplished players, as the title of this review states the city Council have let this grand old lady become tired, while the fairways were acceptable (just) the greens were in a terrible state, parts of each and every green were uncut making us hit our putters like a 5 iron, some local yobs had ridden motorcycles over 3 of the greens and the bunkers are in massive states of disrepair, weeds and stones making them almost unrecognisable, Shame on you Birmingham Council you have let this course go to rack and ruin, good points were the gentleman in the golf shop was polite and welcoming, and it only cost £12.50, but alas I will not be returning because it's clear to see that this old lady is near death and no with no golfing NHS to help her I fear the worst

Potential but needs serious tlc

Layout is good with some interesting holes and good views.

The greens were awful, long grass, very patchy super slow, bunkers were full of weeds and the rough just off the fairways so long and lush that it was impossible to play from and very hard to find.

Staff in preshop very friendly and helpfull

Shame there is no clubhouse or bar

Good for the money

Played this course a few times, but not for a long time, played again 01/08/24. The layout was good fair ways was great condition. The only thing to let this course down is the greens lots of damage which impedes a true roll of the ball. But for £12.50 I would recommend.
