Just awful
I'd like to be writing a positive review of what looked like a good course, based on other reviews, however, one simple issue has absolutely ruined an afternoon on the course for me, and a day's leave to boot. I have no issue with a course needing to maintain the grounds, for future play, in fact its an admirable thing to do, but failing to notify players, especially visitors, that every single green has been hollow tined, leaving tiny winter greens, cut halfway up fairways, at the start of August is woefully disappointing. Nothing was listed on their website, even on the course status, not a word mentioned by the pro on arrival, no signs around the course, and only finding out halfway up the first, even after asking the pro for a course guide (which they don't do), and further friendly chat about some shot selections for blind tees. Add to this that a two ball ahead of me tee'd off, hit useless shots (haven't we all) but then returned to the tee when they couldnt find them, waited for a downpour before teeing off again 5 minutes after my tee time, and then played incredibly slowly, and just shrugged it off that they were without offering to let me through, after hitting it 15 yards off the 3rd tee and that's it, I walked off after 'two holes'!!! Interestingly, walking down the 18th, back to the car park, offered a view of a tee bed set some 75 yards away from a winter green, on a 476 yard par 5!! Honestly, what is the point? Little would anyone know it, but it took me nearly 2 hours to drive here, en route to Sheffield, and has basically wasted an entire day, simply because someome was too lazy to update the course status properly!!!Had I known I would have picked somwhere else and saved Disley for another day. Safe to say though, that this will be my only ever experience of Disley, which was just dismal. Check before you play people as they won't be bothering to communicate anything to you, even when you're stood in front of them.
Haha. Even better, I just went to take a screenshot of the course status, which I checked before booking, then after my attempted play; where it had stated issues around COVID, it now says 'world handicap system', as below, meaning that even on the day the course is playing full winter greens, in the middle of Summer, they've updated the status part way through the day but couldn't be bothered to give an actual status about the course. Utterly useless, and a complete waste of time.
Very enjoyable round
The course layout is in places a little manic with cross overs and same tee locations. But it didn’t affect my day at all - everyone was very friendly and because it was busy - I never got confused as I simply followed the group in front.
The greens were a particular highlight- very consistent- fast and challenging. A 50 ft putt on the last made these greens memorable for me.
I played as a single golfer - and left feeling very happy with the experience. I didn’t test the off course facilities as it was a slow round and I had to shoot off.
A beautiful course
A beautiful course in the foothills of the peak district, just 25 minutes from the M56 Manchester Airport junction.
Has its quirks, but love it!
Disley is a beautiful course on the edge of the Peak District. Very good condition, greens excellent, couple of tees were a bit chopped up, but otherwise great.
There are a few oddities in the layout. 3rd tee is behind you as you finish the 2nd hole, easy to go to the wrong hole if you're new to the course. A couple of tees criss-cross, which is OK if the course is quiet, also the yellows for the 16th are directly behind the 15th green.
The blind par 3 13th is a tough one to judge for 1st timers, as is the massive unseen ditch on the 14th.
It's a bit of an odd one, but I love it.
Very good course.
Very nice course, fairways good, greens excellent, great views, well stocked pro's shop, half way house was excellent.
Definitely recommend.
Great to be golfing again
Disley is the second course I've played since we have been allowed to play in and it was great thoroughly enjoyable.
No game
Unfortunately having driven from Sheffield we were told we were unable to play as there was a club completion scheduled and we shouldn't have been able to book.
The rating is purely on this disappointing visit as we have played 4 or 5 times before and typically find the course and off course set-up a pleasure
A great round
One of my favorite courses. Always in great condition, greens were in great nick.
A challenging course for the mid to high handicapper and I was happy with my gross 90 despite a couple of compulsory nightmare holes!
Some slow play by 4 members in front but we eventually played through at hole 11 (should have been 3 holes before really but there you go)which helped.
Couple of pints afterwards..nice bar and staff were lovely.
We don't like to pay more than £20 as a rule so this course is perfect as there are no compromises.
Go and play it!
Great value
Great value round. Course in very good condition. Not the longest of courses but some tight holes.
Great course,
Great course in superb condition ,always look forward to playing Disley. Friendly club, would recommend to anyone who wants to play a good course.
Temp greens
Temp greens there were about 5 but we never saw any work being done
Hollotining was the reason given
Some tees were very neglected
The weather was lovely thank goodness
Disley
Great course hard but fair great condition deffo play again nice staff and pro shop
Excellent course
Great course in excellent condition especially after all this dry weather
Greens immaculate
Staff and members very friendly
Only downside Thursday is ladies day and 2 comps running and we were in the middle of them,we were a 3 ball and one of the lads isn’t the quickest so we were constantly letting the ladies through, they were all 2 balls and decent players
Not sure t times should be offered on Thursday
That aside we had a good days golf on a very good, interesting course with some fantastic views
has potential
The members and staff were really friendly and helpful, the course is quite nice, greens very quick, fairways and tee boxes needed cutting though, more like light rough and some of the bunkers require sand, going on for mid June there's no excuse for there being non. Another slightly down point was how close behind the greens some of the tee boxes were, a slightly over hit shot could be dangerous. Finishing up though it was quite a challenging course and I play all over, I got rained off after 9 holes, but will be back soon, if they cut the tee boxes and fairways and fill the empty bunkers this will be a great little course with a friendly welcoming atmosphere.
Views of Cheshire
Have played Disley before so know most of the do's and dont's and were not disappointed in either the course or Staff. Only complaint hired a buggy for the two of us and were charged £25 which I think is excessive, the average around Cheshire is probably more like £20 for visitors.
Some stunning views
Course will be awesome when dry.... Some very wet fairways. Pitty. Could have lived with that but to many greens still covered in sand. Like putting on Blackpool beach. Wish courses state before booking if they are doing work on greens. That will seriously affect your game. Pitty as this really could be a lovely course
Fantastic course
Disley has always been a varied and challenging course. It's rolling landscape giving amazing views over the Derbyshire hills, are the reason there is such a difference between each hole.
It's not overly hilly, yet the natural nature of the course, uses every rise to keep you thinking of the next shot. When you reach the 15th with your well deserved score, take a moment to turn round and look at the stunning countryside before you. All you have do then, is hit the golf ball up to the relatively short but tricky par three.
All round a fantastic course to get you thinking of how score well. And one to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
