Shrigley Hall Hotel, Golf & Country Club

I like Shrigley Hall course, it's usually in fine condition with nice quick greens and good tees and fairways. Some of the cart paths and tracks are eroded and bumpy but manageable. Yesterday the pace of play was slow, understandable when each tee slot is taken, many with four balls. Last time I played I shot 89 with 5 lost balls but yesterday happy with an 84 (9.6 handicap) and just one lost with a dreadful hook. I'll play again in six months or so as I continue to try north west courses.

We enjoyed the course itself and found the staff generally friendly, but unfortunately the pace of play and how it was handled really let the day down. After five holes in an hour and a half, we called the pro shop. A member of staff came out, but told the groups ahead that we had complained, which seemed to escalate things. The groups then waited for us on the next tee, where we were sworn at and verbally abused. It was particularly disappointing, as there seemed to be little awareness of basic golf etiquette around pace of play and letting a quicker two ball through. We certainly don’t expect to be sworn at simply for raising a genuine concern. The course has plenty of potential, but better on-course marshalling, clearer communication, and proper pace management would have made a huge difference to our experience.

Second time playing and this time used a buggy which I would recommend. Course was excellent condition with challenging holes and greens that I found difficult to read and get the speed correct. Only gripe is that signage for next hole could be better. A nice pint was had after in the hall which was a decent pint. Tried food but was disappointed as it was barely warm (beef meatballs). Overall would recommend and would play again.

Half way house was cold in morning not open should just put coffee machine in with a pay option as very cold easy to manage for staff , also got into 19 th bar but no food at 1.45 strange as hotel could make money like Starbucks as you have staff there and could not walk further ?

Absolutely loved playing here. The course is in excellent condition especially as it’s only early march. The scenery is breathtaking too.

100% will be back, lovely course. Unreal views of the city of Manchester. Par 3 on the 18th is brilliant

We played a weekday lunchtime round when it was extremely quiet and was one of the best courses we’ve played in the area for only £19. Course was in mint condition for the time of year with all greens fully open. Course is quite tough but the majority of the holes on the course are excellent. The club house could do with a renovation but that was the only negative.

Lovely course, played it in middle of winter and only one wet spot on the whole course which is unbelievable after the amount of rainfall. One of the best courses i’ve played in Manchester and surrounding areas

Shrigley Hall golf course has a varied layout and quite hilly. It’s a tough course to play with plenty of slopes, tricky rough, water in a few spots and tough greens. Overall enjoyable but bring plenty of balls.

Great course, a little challenging especially at the moment with it being so dry.

Very friendly welcome when we arrived.
