Canyon Springs Golf Club
About
Canyon Springs Golf Club is a true Hill Country course. You need to stay on the fairways or bring plenty of balls. Using an old farm to build on this choice piece of Texas real estate, this land has been artfully transformed into what many golfers will refer to as among the very best of what Texas has to offer. With five sets of tee boxes on each hole, demanding greens, natural Hill Country surroundings and magnificent limestone waterfalls on two holes, this 7,000-plus-yard course presents a significant challenge to event the most experienced golfers (and even those who think they are).

Greens are crap. Came to play for the weekend left 0 deg. and came to 80 deg. perfect. Hard to complain when you have 4 ft of snow in you yard at home. We had a great time in San Antonio.
Horrible greens at Canyon Springs
The management at canyon springs should apologize to all the golfers for their green conditions. Don’t bother paying full rate, it’s not worth it. Course is typically in great shape, but very disappointed with the conditions.
Not Worth It
I was told in the pro shop that Canyon Springs is the only golf course in the San Antonio area with a grass native to Florida. While this originally may sound like a positive, the grass does not do well in cold conditions and experiences winterkill constantly. Why anyone would decide that a Florida grass should be in San Antonio is beyond me. Greens are horrendous as well as the price. Will not be returning.
Greens in ruff shape
The greens are really suffering from the winter weather. Really not the best grass for this location. All greens are punched and sanded and do not roll very well. No other course of this caliber in San Antonio has greens this bad. Otherwise the course is outstanding.
Twilight round
Overall I thought the course needed a lot of work. I got the twilight rate but I am not sure I could see paying the normal rate for this course. It played fast and was nice but fairways were burnt out and the greens had a lot of small clumps of tuff grass on the greens and on the fringes. A few of the par 3’s really wouldn’t hold shots and the greens were hard and rough. Overall I liked the course for the most part but it seemed to be in kind of bad shape. Also I did have a cart but there is a LOT of holes with a long drive between holes. So if you were to walk be prepared to walk a long way at times. Bunkers were in Good shape but greens needed work and it seemed they spray painted them green as it would be mostly sand look if they didn’t paint green. Due to the greens I couldn’t see paying the full price to play here.
Great challenging course
I have played Canyon springs, off and on 15+ years. Maybe once a year., due to so many great tracts in this area, Canyon always is a fun present surprise. I always forget about how this course challenges your whole bag without being terribly difficult, a lot of placement shots.
Staff is always very friendly and puts off a country club vibe (a cool country club, not bush wood CC)
Greens are un-puttable
Do not play this course. They lost the greens two winters in a row. They are un-puttable, 1/2 grass 1/2 green sand. I would not play this course if the round was FREE. Ive played this course over 20 times (I live 2 miles away), and will not play it again. They didnt warn me about the greens and price was way too high. I knew it wasnt going to be good when the practice green was closed (for the hundredth time). A picture is worth 1000 words, so please see photos from February 24th
Pretty disappointing
Funky faiways on the first several holes.
Greens were horrible, only surpassed by Riverside in poorest we played this month.
Certainly disappointed after so many recommendations from players at other courses.
Winter Golf in SA
The course was in descent condition considering that it is winter and it's been raining off and on.
Nice course period
You wanna play, this is the place. Great layout, mix of tuff and ez. Like driving! The ball and the cart. Enjoyed it even if I shot a crappy score.
It’s Got Teeth
This is a well maintained golf course. Amenities are nice, fun layout. Depending on the tees, it’s got teeth! Stay out of the rough!!
January Pace
Canyon Springs continues to be one of the better San Antonio golf courses. The pace of play on this Saturday evening was unfortunately very slow, but was expected when you get a 74 degree Saturday in January. The greens were fertilized and slower than normal, but rolled good for Winter golf. Fairways and tee boxes have been over seeded and came in very well. The course is difficult and resists scoring. A nice January round of golf.
Good but not great
The greens had recently been sanded so they were not in the best condition but playable.
Good Intermediate Challenge
Nice layout, good fairways, challenging greens. Always enjoy playing this course even though I have a high handicap. Fun course.
Fall Beauty
Canyon Springs displayed the beauty of Texas Fall golf. The course was in excellent condition. Greens were virtually perfect. Fairways had very minimal soft spots even with all the rain lately. Everything from tee to green was simply excellent. The course layout is one of the best in San Antonio. Each hole is secluded from the others and the drive from green to tee is scenic. Wouldn’t recommend walking the course as those walks could be long and demanding with the hills. Great course, one of San Antonio’s best. Highly recommend this course showcasing Texas’s Fall beauty.
Good semi-tuff course
Great course for good golfers. Tuff course for intermediate golfers. Extra tuff for hackers. Bring extra balls if you hook or slice.
This is a really nice course some easy holes some average hose and some hard or holes. Great features
Had a really good time at the course playing. Course was in amazing shape for all the heat that we’ve been having. Love the layout. Would not mind playing there again pretty soon here coming up. Had a great time
