Canyon Springs Golf Club is a true Hill Country course. You need to stay on the fairways or bring plenty of balls. Using an old farm to build on this choice piece of Texas real estate, this land has been artfully transformed into what many golfers will refer to as among the very best of what Texas has to offer. With five sets of tee boxes on each hole, demanding greens, natural Hill Country surroundings and magnificent limestone waterfalls on two holes, this 7,000-plus-yard course presents a significant challenge to event the most experienced golfers (and even those who think they are).

Fun Golf Course

Canyon Springs has holes that are visually intimidating, but there is more room than you think. The par 3's have a lot of character and difference in length. I'll definitely play it again.

Bad Shape!

Well overpriced considering the condition of the greens and bunkers. Fairways were in good condition, best parts of the course. Booked through Golf Now app for $50 bucks with a 3:30 tee off, but again, not a good value given the disrepair of the greens and bunkers.

I played the Palmer course at La Cantera for $65 in the afternoon the week prior to Canyon Springs; well worth the money, the course was in terrific condition.

Layout

First time here, and I had a great time. The course layout is very friendly for players like me who tend to slice their drives. Seems like most holes dogleg right. The course is very friendly to a mature play with wide fairways and large greens.

Nice course. friendly staff

Course was in great shape, other than the greens had just been aerated & sanded. In hindsight, there was not any aerate alert noted on Golfnow when making the booking.

Pace of play was great and Starter was very friendly & helpful. Overall, a great day of golf at Canyon Springs.

The friendliest club on the planet

Let me say outright everyone we enountered at the Canyon Springs was about as welcoming as you go possibly wish for, and I include Rocket and Rebel the two longhorns that live by the clubhouse. As for the course itself you'll need to keep your wits about you and your shots straight - either that of bring a lot of balls! There are plenty of elevation changes and tiers on the fairways which will keep you interested. You'll read other reviews which complain of the greens in reality although not at their best (we were told by the members we played with that they come into their own in the heat and humidity of the Texas summer) they were entirley playable - those you say otherwise must have lead very sheltered lives. Head out the Canyon you won't regret it.

Great course, greens are rough, but overall great time

This is such a beautiful course. Overall experience was great. Pros: course layout, scenery, price , staff friendliness (some)

Cons: game flow(did not see the Marshall once, the pace of the game was awfully slow as at time we were waiting for two groups to Tee off at times) , there is a grumpy man that answered the phone when I called...avoid asking him questions.

Greens are crap. Came to play for the weekend left 0 deg. and came to 80 deg. perfect. Hard to complain when you have 4 ft of snow in you yard at home. We had a great time in San Antonio.

Horrible greens at Canyon Springs

The management at canyon springs should apologize to all the golfers for their green conditions. Don’t bother paying full rate, it’s not worth it. Course is typically in great shape, but very disappointed with the conditions.

Not Worth It

I was told in the pro shop that Canyon Springs is the only golf course in the San Antonio area with a grass native to Florida. While this originally may sound like a positive, the grass does not do well in cold conditions and experiences winterkill constantly. Why anyone would decide that a Florida grass should be in San Antonio is beyond me. Greens are horrendous as well as the price. Will not be returning.

Greens in ruff shape

The greens are really suffering from the winter weather. Really not the best grass for this location. All greens are punched and sanded and do not roll very well. No other course of this caliber in San Antonio has greens this bad. Otherwise the course is outstanding.

Twilight round

Overall I thought the course needed a lot of work. I got the twilight rate but I am not sure I could see paying the normal rate for this course. It played fast and was nice but fairways were burnt out and the greens had a lot of small clumps of tuff grass on the greens and on the fringes. A few of the par 3’s really wouldn’t hold shots and the greens were hard and rough. Overall I liked the course for the most part but it seemed to be in kind of bad shape. Also I did have a cart but there is a LOT of holes with a long drive between holes. So if you were to walk be prepared to walk a long way at times. Bunkers were in Good shape but greens needed work and it seemed they spray painted them green as it would be mostly sand look if they didn’t paint green. Due to the greens I couldn’t see paying the full price to play here.

Great challenging course

I have played Canyon springs, off and on 15+ years. Maybe once a year., due to so many great tracts in this area, Canyon always is a fun present surprise. I always forget about how this course challenges your whole bag without being terribly difficult, a lot of placement shots.

Staff is always very friendly and puts off a country club vibe (a cool country club, not bush wood CC)

Greens are un-puttable

Do not play this course. They lost the greens two winters in a row. They are un-puttable, 1/2 grass 1/2 green sand. I would not play this course if the round was FREE. Ive played this course over 20 times (I live 2 miles away), and will not play it again. They didnt warn me about the greens and price was way too high. I knew it wasnt going to be good when the practice green was closed (for the hundredth time). A picture is worth 1000 words, so please see photos from February 24th

Pretty disappointing

Funky faiways on the first several holes.

Greens were horrible, only surpassed by Riverside in poorest we played this month.

Certainly disappointed after so many recommendations from players at other courses.
