Canyon Springs Golf Club
About
Canyon Springs Golf Club is a true Hill Country course. You need to stay on the fairways or bring plenty of balls. Using an old farm to build on this choice piece of Texas real estate, this land has been artfully transformed into what many golfers will refer to as among the very best of what Texas has to offer. With five sets of tee boxes on each hole, demanding greens, natural Hill Country surroundings and magnificent limestone waterfalls on two holes, this 7,000-plus-yard course presents a significant challenge to event the most experienced golfers (and even those who think they are).

Tough but challenging
Course was in very good condition, especially the fairways for this time of year. Lots of undulations on the greens, but they roll true. Stay out of the native grass, you will never find your ball if you hit into it. Would like to play again.
Extremely slow
I was playing single and got paired up with a two some who gave up after 9 holes due to slow play, we were waiting more then five minutes on every shot, after they left I skipped 10-12 and found out there was a five some that was holding up play, played rest of holes without running into anybody in front of me, that happens a lot on this course, because they have members and allow 5' somes to play.
Great condition despite the cold and wet day
This course is tucked in the northern San Antonio suburbs. It's quite a gem, being that is a public course. The wildlife is pretty spectacular and it's pretty cool being greeted by a coupe of longhorns on your way to the range. The day wasn't ideal to play golf as it was a bit wet and chilly, nonetheless the course was in excellent shape. It plays long and it's challenging, with all obstacles that a tough course can offer you: forced carries, elevated challenging greens, lots of bunkers, some narrow fairways, blind shots, etc... The 18th hole is the signature hole, with the water springs pouring down the canyon right behind the green, nothing matches the soothing sound of those waterfalls in the background. I had a pretty lousy score that day, cannot wait to return in the future to hopefully get a better score.
Great, again !
Once again, great experience, weather, course, and pace. I love the layout, and the great course conditions .
Top notch golf course at a great value
All the holes are unique and challenging. Always a good experience.
nice course
Friendly staff; good course layout with variable terrain; course was in good condition.
The deltas: several 'blind' tee shots; course runs through subdivision with some areas having tight proximity to houses/apartments.
Too Slow on a Sunday
This was our last round of a guys weekend of playing 6 different courses. Course was in decent shape, nothing great. Pace of play was very slow as we were on a 5 hour plus round. I say we were, but had to leave after 16 holes to make it the airport, so didn't get to experience the full course. There was no marshal that we saw that was trying to keep pace of play up.
The course can be very daunting your first time with A LOT of blind shots and unknown carries. If you are a feel player like me the course is hard to visualize from the tee box your first time.
First Time Playing here
This is a very nice course, the green are not bad, a little sandy. Was paired with a couple guys who have played here before so that was very helpful
Great layout
Course layout is excellent. Pro shop surrounding felt like a ranch. Few tee boxes needed work & the greens speed were inconsistent. Otherwise, course had excellent layout w many hazards & conditioned fairways & great usage of natural surroundings. Fun course to play w great elevations. Definitely would recommend.
Good conditions
This course is on a very good shape, they take care of the pace and it was excellent!
Great course
Course conditions were great. The rough was a little too high. Friendly staff.
Nice course for the money
Nice course. No beverage cart out on the course made it tough. It was very hot and humid. Free water stations were way too far apart. If your not going to let people bring there own you should at least make sure the bev cart is out. Course was nice to play.
great place to play in the hill country
Great course enjoy it every time I play it

Have played this course about a half dozen time at different points in my golf progressions. Beautiful course always in great condition when played. Earlier I read about sand on the greens and hard greens, never had the sand thing happen, but depending on the time of the year you play there, they are like all other south Texas golf courses hard and fast during the summer. For summer reception you need to go toward the Hill Country, Bulverde, or out Hondo area where they get more year round rain. Okay back to this course, I've actually never had a problem with the greens holding or putting on them. I love the challenge of trying to make shots, and shaping shots. It's a very hard and long course for a beginner, which i was and really still am. I've learned a lot from this course how to play the course and not the shot. The amenities are nice and also easy on the eyes on the times i've been there. Great value and the speed of pay is dependent on the day you go! Weekends early you are going to be there for a while. Love this course!
Rain won't slow these concrete greens.
I have been avoiding Canyon Springs due to the horrendously fast greens that wouldn't even hold a Phil Mickelson pitch shot, but alas 3 days of heavy rain! This ought to do the trick, right?
NOPE!
The greens here are so hard and dry that you can't leave a pitch mark in the middle of a thunderstorm (I would know, I tried today.)
What is this turf made from? Diamonds?
To top it off, they're regularly coated in a few tons of sand (I'm guessing in an attempt to slow the speed) which makes for really messy golf balls, and putters - Did I mention that there is only ONE ball washer on the entire 18 hole course?
Canyon Springs really needs to change the type of grass they use on the greens. If they do, this could be an amazing course. The fairways, rough, bunkers, and fringe are top notch. It's a challenging layout with nice scenery, and it's not too expensive. But these greens have GOT TO GO!
I have never played a course where I have dreaded hitting the green so much. When a 2 inch putt goes 20-30 feet in every direction, something needs to change.
The pin placements don't help much either. Holes are almost exclusively cut on crowns, or slopes. Who knows, maybe the greenskeepers are fed up with having to use a jackhammer to cut the holes....
I have asked several times why their "special" high maintenance grass, which needs to be sanded weekly, and punched monthly is worth it, but I have yet to receive a real answer.
Beautiful course
Challenging course if yiu are a beginner and don't have some that has played the course with you. I had Ernie who plays this course with me. Helped out a lot.
Great Course
Very challenging course, beautiful setting. Every hole is a challenge. Must be very precise to play here. Can't wait to come back and try again
Great Course
Awesome course for the price! I will definitely be back!
