Canyon Springs Golf Club
About
Canyon Springs Golf Club is a true Hill Country course. You need to stay on the fairways or bring plenty of balls. Using an old farm to build on this choice piece of Texas real estate, this land has been artfully transformed into what many golfers will refer to as among the very best of what Texas has to offer. With five sets of tee boxes on each hole, demanding greens, natural Hill Country surroundings and magnificent limestone waterfalls on two holes, this 7,000-plus-yard course presents a significant challenge to event the most experienced golfers (and even those who think they are).

Water Falls on the 18th. Photo submitted by u585387285 on 12/21/2015
Pace of play was great
Conditions were great. Greens were in prefect shape. Putts ran true. We played as a twosome and ran into a slower group and they let us play thru.
Rough and tough
The course was in beautiful condition with lush fairways and smooth greens. The rough - and there is plenty of it - was 30 inches high and thick. Forced carries and blind shots combined with extensive tall rough make this an extremely difficult course.
Great course and better value
Course was in great condition, however there we a lot of ball marks and spike marks that were not repaired on the greens. Overall, this is a great course. Definitely in my top 5 in San Antonio.
Great Course
With all the rain we have been getter my over the last month I thought it may be a little rough. The course was in excellent shape all throughout. Well done to the grounds keepers!
Quality course
Canyon Springs is a pleasure to play. It's an interesting design and is in good condition. Great mix of holes. Well managed. Everyone from pro to cart girl is friendly and helpful. Superior golf experience without pretense.
Great best course layout
You must see there Canyon Springs golf course
There have more challenge try beat on that course different layout.
Someday future will come back play again at San Antonio.
Great layout
Plays on the early AM and pace of play was good. That is until I hit the 14th fairway and there were kids all over the fairway. Not sure why they were there. Probably some golf school. Anyway, I played thru them, then hit another group on 15. Afraid I was going to hit them because they did not move. On 16 the kids just stood on the middle of the fairway and did not let me play thru. Skipped the hole and went on. Too bad this happenedd because up" til then, it was a really enjoyable round. I would play here again, but only if the kids were not on the course.
Very good variety of holes with both shotmaking and distance importancr
Course in good condition after a couple weeks of rainy conditions. Greens were a little bumpy and slow. All personnel especially the pro shop were very friendly
A good day
Need to keep up the pace of play. they talk about it on the GPS but no marshals for a course as good as this.
Only downside
Only complaint was the golf carts. They were very old and in bad shape.
Going the wrong way :(
I have been playing this course for many years.. It is starting to go the wrong way.. The course is in the worst shape I have ever seen.. The greens are getting pretty bad and its really sad because they were once some of the best in San Antonio.. They decided to screw up the tee boxes also by taking away a tee box.. They went from four tee box choices to just three and this makes some of the holes too long for average players.. Weeds are also starting to pop up in bad spots.. I live close and I wont be going back anytime soon.. I think this course is going downhill now.. I hope they turn it around..
PUT A HOLE IN THE FAIRWAY
THE FAIRWAYS WERE GREAT BUT THE GREENS WERE
NOT GOOD. WHAT IS GOING ON. DID NOT KNOW
YOU SAND AND AERATE THE GREENS IN MAY.
LOVE THE COURSE BUT WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN THE GREENS.
This course can play long from the tips
Good tee boxes and fairways. The greens we slow for the most part. Probably hard to keep up with due to all the rain. This course needs to install ball washers on the golf carts as there are no on course ball washers. It would be a nice and cheap addition.

Awesome course and the service was excellent.
Even with all of the recent rain the course was in great condition.
I will definitely play there again.
Not too bad.
Payed on a Sunday afternoon as a twosome in 3.5 hours. Tees/Fairways were in pretty good shape, but I've been playing this course for over 10 years and the greens are never where they should be. Lots of worn areas around the edges, and they just looked bad. The were quick, but inconsistent at best. Shame, since the majority of courses I've played in SA over the past few months have had really true greens..these were pretty bumpy, with no signs of a recent punch.
Canyon Springs
Excellent course especially for the price. Very challenging. Course was in good condition. Greens still need some work. Course had a lot of rain in the last few days and the course maintenance was out fixing all of the sand traps immediately which you don't see often for many courses in this price range. This was my 3rd time playing and will play again.
great layout
some tough and challenging tee shots to overall nice large greens
Only a Shadow of It's Former Condition
I have played this course since it was built over 20 years ago and the infestation of so many homesites has eliminated the former rural and pristine ambiance of this course.
We played here in late March on a warm Spring day, the pace of play was terrible because there are no marshalls on the course.
There was no one to greet us and no cart guys when we arrived at 10:00 AM.
The pro shop was friendly, but they now want to charge for range balls, "because too many people wanted to practice for free."
Our starter was a friendly fellow who has been around for six years and everyone seemed to know him.
Hole #1 is a very short dogleg right that is still cart path only and this causes a logjam on the tee.
Hole #2 used to be a challenging blind tee shot over an old well. It's now a miniature golf-like hole that faces a massive apartment complex that has encroached upon the fairway. We were playing behind a foursome of regulars and two of them actually hit their shots into the apartment's property.
The 3rd hole is a simple short par three, but we watched a player take a ten on this hole. Hole six is a split fairway that used to be equally divided. The tees now favor the right side and the second shot is uphill and deceptively long.
The condition of 75% of the greens was poor. The greens were thin and covered with sand just like you have after an aeration.
Many of the tees were not mowed and the fairways near trees were covered with leaves. Live oak trees shed leaves in February and early March. There's not much maintenance here. There are many rough areas around the green where the soil has eroded but has not been replaced.
Throughout this course the massive build up of apartment buildings and homes on every spare inch of turf has drastically changed the character of this layout. This is a classic example of poor design that allowed no space for greenbelt areas around the course. This is just plain ugly.
I still enjoy hole #16. This is a long dogleg left with a lake. The second shot on this long par four is longer than it looks and the landing area is a small green with water left.
Hole 18 ends with an approach shot that has the canyon springs falling sixty feet from a limestone cliff.
The GPS distances on their cart were at variance with my watch on a number of occasions. The cart paths are starting to need maintenance with breaks that need patching.
Good course
I got a deal on golfnow for this tee time, so it was only$25 which was a good value.
Really nice fun course, greens could've been better. But fairways and tee boxes were good.
I'd play again if I found a good deal.
Great Time to Play
In the past I've found the pace of play slow. Upwards of 5 hours to finish a round. However looking at Sunday afternoon finished in 3 playing as a single. Course was in great shape the fairways were plus and nice to hit from greens were soft but a good speed to putt on.
