Course was boggy
But unfair of a poor review as we had bad weather leading up to this round. They had booked 4 4 balls all of at 11am so had a 30min wait on the tee.
Course good layout but maybe should have been closed as so wet you could not walk in some areas and one hole closed.
Great layout, completely overrun.
Great layout and use of elevation for different levels, with lots of forgiveness from parallel fairways. But overloaded bookings (system error?) of four fourballs in one time slot and then ten minute intervals between fourballs meant a half hour delay of sixteen people queueing on the first tee and so barely able to finish before dusk. Plus, despite great efforts to have 17 holes open, far too wet to allow trolleys and such ridiculous volume of people on the course, with muddied winter tees that didn’t even allow a fully committed swing. Wonderful setting and I would love to return, but seriously let down by overcrowding.
The friendliest golf club I have played
We play here a couple of times a year. It’s a challenging course with a lot of uphill; the team couldn’t be more friendly, in the shop, the bar and the hotel. It’s not fancy but it’s great value, a challenging but rewarding course and we will keep going whenever we can
A days pleasure with a friend before lockdown
I like Farthingstone course hidden in the Northamptonshire countryside but not to far to travel. Always a warm welcome in the shop. We arrived a bit late and were fitted in no problem thanks to Paul. So we had a coffee then a little putting and down to the tee. Not a good start but we got in the swing and enjoyed the round. The course was good condition for the time of year. It does have soggy patches not enough to stop me recommending this course to everyone. Give it a go and have a good time.
Rapidly getting worse
I fear for the future of Farthingstone.
At a time when golf is growing and morning visitor tea times are rare, Farthingstone was free from 7am all day with only a handful of bookings.
And its a shame , because it has some great holes but they are not being looked after.
Some of the greens were underwater, some like the 5th were covered in leaves from the tee all the way to the green. Debris is not being moved anywhere, balls nearly lost on the green and impossible to find on many fairways..
Won't go back
Mature course
Guy in club shop was friendly and helpful, Good mature course, bar and food nice and all round good experience.
Friendly Staff & Good Golf
Great Course
Just watch the one way road in can cause issue's if you time it wrong. Course is great but watch out for balls from other tees
Narrow course
Played here for the first time the course was very narrow and tight but to be honest I think that actually helped my game.
I’d certainly recommend to others and will be returning as it’s great value for money and all members seemed very friendly
Would be nice if it wasn’t packed
Played 2 ball today - Nice layout and challenging holes, just not the sort of course you can play peacefully if it’s busy - we had numerous fore shots coming our way from start to finish, and people walking across our fairways as we were teeing off. Course is too tight to have groups on every hole. Nice enough course though if you catch it on a slow day. Rate of play terrible today but again it happens when you pack four-balls into each 10 minute tee time. Paid for 18 but only played 9, as it took us 3 hours to get round the front 9 as it was so backed up.
Poor, Poor Condition.....
I’m going to be honest here.... This wasn’t worth £26 each to play a round, having played the course & with a little reflection, if someone said it’s a tenner to play I’d think it’s OK/fairer reflection of the place!!
Greens were very poor, in fact I’ve played better greens in winter! The course is in need of some TLC!
On a positive note the course has potential for sure, some great holes and a decent layout - very much a challenging track, that said let down by the overall condition.
I just hope the excessive money we paid is spent on some green treatment! Needless to say we won’t be returning. Very disappointing Sunday morning!
Poor condition
Love the layout of the course but maintenance has obviously not been top of the priority list, greens were in an atrocious condition
Tweeks needed but great little course
Course was excellent, challenging yet forgiving on certain holes, few tweeks needed however but still value for money.
Tee boxes were in a pretty worn out state and greens were also very patchy and bare in places.
Other than that as mentioned great little course and would happily return
