Greens as good as you can get
Has a fantastic afternoon at Finchley Golf Club. Visiting from Wiltshire I searched for a course that tested my golf across North and West London. I considered Richmond Park and New Malden amongst others, settling for Finchley. The reviews suggested a quicker game than Richmond and a more friendly welcome with better greens than others. After a very warm welcome by the pro, I warmed up in the excellent practice facilities (nets, chipping, putting). Covid rules were pretty straight forward (one way system in pro shop, one person at a time in the washroom, main club house closed). The course views are excellent, the layout a great test (but fair), the greens... absolutely perfect. How the clubs kept the greens so pure during the restrictions is beyond me. The dry weather has got to the fairway in places, but the course is fighting back (6” placing in fairway and in bunkers). All in all a great afternoon of golf.
A challenge for all golfers
A good challenge for all handicaps. A nice mixture of risk reward on some shorter par 4s with some longer, tighter challenging holes, rapid greens!!
Lovely atmosphere
first time playing this course and first time leaving a review, the pros were good fun and made you feel at home, the members were polite and helpful.
some great holes. i would happily play again.
Enjoyable round
Great course. Nice quick greens. Good practice nets and putting green. Friendly staff.
Great value despite course being bone dry.
Enjoyed my round despite the course being bone dry and in desperate need of water. Fairways starting to crack in places and lots of GUR areas. Greens have started to burn in certain places but still puttable and extremely quick with one or two fiendish breaks. Bunkers in pretty good state in these Covid times. Well worth a visit on the hot deal rate of £17.
the course is interesting
the hottest day of the year so far, the course held up well, i would love to play there regularly if only i could find more special offers, too expensive otherwise.
alas the lovely clubhouse was closed due to COVID the staff very welcoming
Niraj
Challenging well maintained course. Greens were baked but overall condition is good . Definitely worth a round
Good course/good value for money
I played this course in Mid March and found it a good challenge. The course was very wet and greens were a bit slow but this is what you would expect in March. I imagine come summer the course will be in better conditions. I really enjoyed the back 9 as it was more inclosed and had 3 holes that played up near the clubhouse which makes it a wonderful setting. I will be back in the summer to try it out again.
Quagmire
Should not have been allowed to tee off, course was atrocious , playing off a 300 cm x 100 cm piece of astroturf for every shot, should have been refunded the fees , gave up after 10 holes, only good thing was finding 12 balls in a hedge row across the 4th , least I think it was the 4th as signage was non exsistant.
Boggy!
Unfortunately the course was very wet and boggy!!
Weren’t allowed to use normal tees and every fairway / rough shot was to be taken off a piece of Astro turf to help protect the course.
However this will not stop be playing there again but will wait until it has dried up as I think it is a great course with friendly staff.
