Much improved on last year
Played last May after 1st lockdown and was disappointed with course - gave it another go today and much improved greens and fairways . Can see a lot of work done to get things back to how they were . An enjoyable round and usual friendly welcome .
Playing golf again... not allowed for too long!
What a beautiful day’s weather to start back playing, after months of ‘lockdown’! Frodsham GC has such wonderful views, and to be able to play a private golf course for only £17.50, one can’t complain too much - it saddens me to read some of the reviews! Okay, no where near the best, but a marked improvement from the greens a year ago! Ongoing work still being undertaken and a lot of room for improvement, but this did not stop us from enjoying our game and getting value for our money - going to give it another go and play there again in a few days, so will look out for improvements and compare.
Nice game of golf enjoyed the course today nice greens
So sad
A course we have played over the years but it’s just so sad to see the state it has become. All of us decided today (8 of us) never to play there again. Course should have been in perfect nick today and it was bad. Such a waste of a cracking course just going to rack and ruin. I’d genuinely like a refund for it as we may as well just played on school fields. Until there is big changes we won’t return
A good course but fingers crossed for a snowfall refund
I've played at this course recently before and felt some of the reviews a little harsh.
Sure several temporary greens but considering the time of the year and the amount of rain fall I think the drainage is superb allowing a round of golf when many courses in the area completely unplayable.
I was personally grateful to get an opportunity to get a game in and I hope the present work will improve the course for 2021.
We were very unlucky this time due to snow fall having the course closed. I'm hoping that my booking through golfnow uk does recieved the refund owed unlike the many golfnow uk unhappy reviews.
Subject the refund I'll happily to re book this course.
Shocking
Three stars is generous , to be fair one star is pushing it . Save your money and play somewhere else .
Temporary greens great course
Love the improvements at the course friendly staff going to be amazing when completed best layout can’t get bored playing this course.
Mud, Mud , glorious Mud
Disaster. I couldn’t recommend playing here even it was for free ( in present condition). Thought I’d take advantage of some cheap golf prior to the second Lockdown. Wow, what a mistake. I’ve read the course is under construction.......this is misleading. The course looks like it is being used as a Landfill Site. There are wagons/dump trucks tipping soil all over the place. The access to the course and several pathways are covered in very deep mud. You may be better in wellies rather than golf shoes. I played here in the winter a few years ago. One of its main features then was the course played on normal greens through the winter. This is now not the case, with almost every hole being on temporary greens ( actually a hole in the fairway ). Massive improvement needed to bring this course to the standard it once was
Autumn & winter at Frodsham
Having booked to play at Frodsham GC with my son, as it was his birthday, we were both throughly disappointed!
From the moment you arrive the mud is the first thing you notice, and its everywhere.
The clubhouse has been turned into a children nursery so I'm not sure if they are building a new clubhouse, but the scale of work being carried out on the first four holes is huge. The place resembles a building site.
Absolutely dangerous to get down the path and to the first tee, no attempt to even put boards or stones down for golfers to walk on. The mud is over 12 inches deep in parts, take you life in your own hands here.
The greens have certainly suffered during the wet spell. We went to Frodsham as it was recommended as an extremely dry course. Nothing was further from the truth.
I hit four fairways from the tee and lost 3 balls which just buried. The winter greens were nothing more than holes in the ground. Again, no attempt to create a temporary green for the paying golfer or members.
My son and I walked off after 4 holes, covered in mud, and demanded a raincheck until next year, in the hope that the course is fit to play by then.
Throughly disappointed after what should have been a great day out with my son.
Not too bad
Lots of work going on so approx 50% of the greens where temporary but that was fully explained when booking and reflected in the price. Really boggy access to the 1st tea but had been raining heavily beforehand.
Cant wait to play next year when all finished
Loads of maintenance
Course is undergoing loads of work and will hopefully be great when finished. However, currently it isn’t really worth playing to be honest. 15 temp greens and tees, paths that are just thick mud where tractors have been driven and all of this at no discount despite Golf Now advertising a discount
Clearly a lovely course in the summer. Construction site at the moment.
Overall ok. Very boggy and whilst there's temporary greens the greens and grass is too long to use your putter. Good walk and some varied difficulties of holes which is always a good thing.
Don’t play until spring
The course has been destroyed by the work being carried out. 15 temp greens and they’re not cut any different from the fairway. Temp tees also. Wait for spring or later before attempting to play
Pretty much a let down
You arrive at the course with no idea the clubhouse is closed with only a guy in a hut to speak in which you get a reply a of “get lost when you let him know you have a tee time booked for 9:45 in the morning. It wasn’t worth the 50 min drive to the course
Then there is an unwalkable path down to the first tee that has been chewed up by diggers and on top of that a lot of the green are in poor condition , I understand repairs have to be made and it certainly isn’t reflected in the price it’s fair to say I won’t be returning to this course any time in the near future.
MUD
i understand the course is under repair but its not reflected in the price. I was extremely dissapointed due to the amount of temporary greens there was on the course. Navigation between holes is poor and some of the routes involved trekking through mud particularly the entrance onto the course, there could have been some walk mats or similar put down to avoid this. The price was £16 which in my opinion is massively overpriced considering the course condition.
Has potential, but not helping itself...
Like all of the other reviews suggest, the course is under repair, and I am sure that it will be a brilliant place to play in the future. With that in mind we went not expecting much in the way of greens or tee boxes etc...however we didn’t account for people playing any which hole they please, cutting across fairways while trying to play into the greens and leaving empty cans of Budweiser in their wake. I’m not sure if this is due to lack of signage to the different holes, or if it was just a lack of etiquette. With the course in the condition it is, the last thing it needed was people randomly walking to a free tee box and playing any old hole they pleased. A little marshaling at a weekend would really help keep the course moving.
Few temps
Played today few temps on great to see a change lots of renovations and improvements
