Lots of potential
This course has a lot of potential with some more work. As others have said the greens are leaving something to be desired, some areas of greens are so bad they should really be classed GUR, on a positive note though they do appear to have improved from pictures on earlier posts around a few weeks ago but are still a long way off. The signage as previously mentioned could also be improved as it can be confusing if you aren't using an app with the map and layout on. The rest of the course is in good condition. The layout is great and will also give you a good workout with all the ups and downs on the course. There is a lot of work going on there at present and due to this some of the tees are in temporary locations, hopefully this work is going to unlock the course's full potential.
Greens need some serious work.
The overall course is lovely, but the greens have been allowed to deteriorate into a really poor state.
So dry given all the rain
Wet morning amazing how dry this course holds up to wet weather
Poor condition
Played 18 today - course was in shocking condition particularly the greens! For a £25 round I expected more
A Work in Progress.....
Let's deal with the problem areas first. The Greens ( as others have pointed out ) are very poor and the signage between holes requires significant improvement - easy to get lost. However, this is a very lovely course with a great variety of holes up, down, wide and narrow. On a hill above Frodsham it has spectacular views of the estuary and the Wirral and Liverpool beyond.
Basically the course is 'work in progress'. Extensive work is being done both on the course and in the building of a new clubhouse. This will take time, but when (if) completed Frodsham will be a course to be reckoned with. Till then, accept that the Greens are **** and just enjoy the course for the rest of the game. Oh yes, a very friendly bloke in the hut that currently passes for the clubhouse / reception.
shocking
greens are atrocious. This is a lovely course ruined by the owner. The guy has been bleeding the place dry. Maybe now he may reinvest some of it? Unless he's blown it on other ventures? Don't believe the positive reviews they're all clearly by the owner and his mate.
Great views, nice course
Lovely round at a surprisingly quiet course. Granted the greens need a bit of work, but this is getting sorted out as explained to us by the very friendly chap at reception. Definitely will be going back as the course is great.
Getting better!
Had yet another most enjoyable day at Frodsham GC...it is always such a pleasure to be out in the fresh air - loving ‘privacy’ and tranquility - viewing the surrounding marvellous scenery (taking time to ‘smell the roses’!). I took a friend, and one of my grandsons and his mate - we had 4 to 5 hours of fun, purpose and enjoyment at a very reasonable cost! Sure, the golf course has seen better times, but the conditions are improving again - it’s wonderful to see extra ground staff being employed and seeing the improvement work going on...it won’t be long before Frodsham GC is ‘back on the map’! Having read many of the previous reviews, it sometimes makes me wonder where these people are coming from - or, indeed, if they have actually played the course when they say they had - what do they want, do they want life for free; perhaps they are used to getting millionaires golf at absolutely no cost!!! Whatever, I truly wish FGC all the very best for the future...keep up all the good work and improvements...’we’ will be back very soon. Thanks!
First time Frodsham
A lovely rolling course with views over the Mersey to Liverpool. Greens need a bit of work but this is all in hand according to the chap at reception. Will play again definitely.
Worst course I've ever played - DO NOT waste your money
Given the price charged to play here, I was hopeful of a pleasant round of golf on a nice course. How wrong I was. This course is the *worst* course I have ever had the misfortune to play on in my 28 years. Please DO NOT waste your money. The pictures attached of the condition of the greens says it all. Absolutely shambolic, unplayable messes of greens. In fact, to call them greens is an insult to other golf courses. They could more accurately be described as patches of bumpy mud with some tufts of grass here and there. The course layout has potential, with some interesting and challenging holes. However any attempt to hit GIR is utterly pointless, as you find yourself putting on these pathetic excuses of greens. So, so disappointed with Frodsham Golf Course. The clubhouse is a temporary metal shack by the car park, with the former club house being converted into a nursery. Once again, avoid like the plague and DO NOT waste your money here - I wouldn't wish those greens on anyone.
Enjoyable day
Played today greens obviously have been criticised over the recent months however the course in my opinion doesn't reflect some reviews on here, spectacular views that many courses I'm sure would like to have frodsham has always very fairly priced there appears to be many improvements happening on the course. The new clubhouse known as the cow shed due to it being an old milking parlour according to the starter looks very impressive with country furniture and church pews all very rustic. I will return in a few weeks to no doubt many improvements of the course
.
Great days golf always greeted by John the starter friendly staff new lake on 18th always a difficult finishing hole
bogus review. That guy John would argue with his own shadow. He's never greeted anyone
Getting better!
Had yet another enjoyable day at Frodsham GC - and great value for money - took along a Friend, together with my Grandson and his Mate. How can you not enjoy the course layout with the wonderful surrounding views? We certainly had many hours of fun! Reading some of the prior reviews makes me sometimes wonder where these people are coming from...indeed, if they have actually even played when they said they had - what do they want, 4 to 5 hours of enjoyment (or, ‘misery’ in their case) for nothing!? Sure, the course has seen better times - those times are coming again - there are loads and loads of improvements going on with money being spent; it was super to see additional ground staff being employed working on the course! We will be back soon...and, as for the new ‘bistro’ “Cowshed”, what a novel idea and super relaxed atmosphere - I’m sure many of the ramblers around the area will soon be mixing, and social distancing, with the golfers, enhancing the great atmosphere even further! Good luck Frodsham Golf and “Cowshed”...I for one wish you well...’the good times, they are a coming’.
Great views - excellent day
Had a great day - and great value for money - made all the better by the wonderful views and surroundings of the course! Loads of improvements to the course going on with new tees and nice new lake on the 18th - it was super to see a number of ground staff working on the course. I’ll be back! Thanks Frodsham Golf Club!
Almost left after 2 holes, but just about worth sticking with it.
We had a very odd experience today at Frodsham Golf Club. My 10 year old son and I started playing golf last September as he wanted a set of clubs for his 10th Birthday and since lockdown allowed, we’ve played a fair bit. We aren’t members anywhere but have played a good few courses around Warrington enjoying the freedom of not being members. I booked Frodsham last night on GolfNow and thought ‘that’s cheap’ only to realise 2 holes in why.
The car park has no signage in it, I asked a couple where the club house was and all I got was “There isn’t one but there is a portacabin”. The chap in the portacabin was very pleasant and explained how the first few holes work and also that there’s quite a bit of work going on. By the time we got to the first green we were wondering if this club has had any work done in a long time. The first two holes weren’t pleasurable and with a youngster who’s taking no enjoyment from the state of the course, I considered calling it after 3 holes. We stuck with it and whilst the greens fluctuated between worse and the same, the improving middle fairways and pleasant panoramas made it just about worthwhile, albeit feeling a little sorry for the place. The middle 6 or 7 holes were actually quite enjoyable; distance wise, the course presents plenty of birdie opportunities and being relative novices we both enjoyed the relatively wide open and forgiving fairways. Whilst walking between shots I tried to google why what looked like a club house was now a nursery and also tried to find out why the club was in such a state? This is where the sympathy set in. It’s recently had a refinancing/ cash injection, so I’d like to think that things are on the up there. You can see new tee boxes are under construction and a few greens have been moved for work on them. As we got back to the car park it’s obvious that money has been spent on that. The signage is poor between holes. The hole information signs need moving to a place where you can see them as you approach rather than the back tee that is in places 50 yards apart. There’s a lot to do.
I’m in no rush to return, but will maybe try again in a couple of years as the course was pretty pleasant. The state of those greens though don’t do anything to help motivate a 10 year old to keep going. It’s certainly not the place for aspiring golfers wanting the full experience.
Good luck to them though. It will either be much improved in 2 years time or a housing estate.
Course and fairways in good condition but sadly getting let down by the condition of the greens
Frodsham Golf
Lovely course in general.
Unfortunately spoilt by a couple of factors:
Very confusing course layout, more signage needed from green to next tee needed. I walked to the 4th tee looking for the 1st.
Greens were in bad condition.
Both these factors shoud be rectified to make a cracking course.
Very cheap greeb fees though so can't complain too much.
Not ‘a load of Tosh’...as someone who doesn’t know me, has recently written - he must be a clairvoyant - I am not the owner! I have played and coached golf in many places around the world - FGC has been going through some difficulties, one of which has been attempting to play golf all year round, including wet winters, without temporary tees or greens, and allowing buggies. The course will be back!
What a load of tosh. This is clearly written by the owner. You've ruined this course. Get rid
