Gatton
This has been a favourite course of ours for many years and it is disappointing to see how poor a condition it has become. Tee boxes not mown and bunkers not raked (rock hard and unplayable). Greens were ok but there is a general lack of TLC. Very disappointing.
You must try Gatton Manor
We have played Gatton Manor many times over the past 5 years or so and I must say that yesterday the course was in the best condition we have ever seen it..The staff were friendly and helpful. The green fee was reasonable as well.. We will definitely return.
The new owners are doing a great job .
Overnight stay 2 rounds
This is our societies 2nd trip to Gatton Manor for an overnight stay, dinner & breakfast and 2 rounds of golf.
Previous to this meeting we were a little unsure after reading some reviews regarding the current course conditions.
“Greens being in an awful state and unplayable being one that comes to mind”
Staff were so accommodating and willing to help from the moment we arrived right to the end of our stay.
Being honest the greens weren’t in perfect condition and we’re a bit bobbly but they were a lot better than what we expected. We did say that with some brighter hotter weather the greens would look really good. Course is challenging with lots of great tree lined holes. Loved the par 3 4th hole. Green keepers were out and constantly working with freshly cut fairways and rough.
Front of house manager and all bar staff deserve a big thank you for putting up with us and keeping the drinks flowing to make it an even more enjoyable trip
Loved the trip and will be planning a return trip, in the near future. Thanks Gatton Manor!
Great layout, awful greens!
Two of us couldn’t get a morning round at my course, so found Gatton manor at £35. Stunning course to look at and really good layout. Par 3’s especially very strong and picturesque. Sadly, one thing let the place down, the greens. They were very poor. Shame, because if they get that right I would highly recommend the place and definitely go back. I would give them the benefit of doubt and try again sometime, but not until they are sorted. Still decent value for money. Potentially a very very good golf course.
Will be better
I do so want Gatton to get back to its original condition. Having played it through the years it’s gone from top class course with fabulous food and premises to a very tired but trying condition. The pro shop has returned which is a positive. The food is not as good but adequate. The course wasn’t as good as it could be but still offered a great challenge. Greens were very bumpy and still had signs of spring work. I’m sure the staff had done their best under the lockdown situation and I’m sure it will be better in a couple of months. Played it with two “virgins” who loved the layout and confirmed they would return so two more customers for you! We will be back because it’s always been a good track. Perhaps August/September though...
Awful greens
It is such a shame that Gatton is in the state is currently is. The greens are almost unplayable. £35 for a thursday afternoon seems incredibly overpriced due to its condition.
Will come back when it has sorted itself out
Nice layout
Nice layout i’ve played this course quite a few times but on this occasion the greens we are in the best condition and the fairways had lots of Divot marks that hadn’t been replaced. And I had called up a week previous and they said there be no temporary matt's but they were.
Gatton Manor
This is a picturesque and interesting course with a challenging first four holes that test your accuracy.
Over the years the course has had many changes in ownership. After a period of closure it is in need of some ongoing work to bring it back to former levels.
Some fairways in need of some renovations as well as greens. The greenkeepers were out doing lots of great work and with there skill and dedication this will soon be back to former levels. It’s fun to play and to enjoy.
SHAME
This used to be a well looked after and popular course. I expected it to be quite busy following lockdown but I only saw 6 other people playing. Word had obviously spread that the course had gone badly downhill and was In poor condition in all aspects. There were no facilities open but I wasn’t expecting any. The course location is great - no traffic noise and I only noticed 2 aeroplanes going into Gatwick. I’d love to go back one day but it won’t be anytime soon.
Poor condition, no club house
The course is in poor condition and the "country club" has seen much better days. A long time ago.
Post lockdown golf
The courses in uk have all been closed for 3+ months, so a game of golf was looked forward to. What a shame we chose Gatton Manor.
A nice friendly welcome by the girl behind the desk, so a positive start. We went to the first tee and we was on a mat. All 18 tees had mats and you wasn’t allowed to play from the tee. Upon reaching the green it was bumpy and not well kept. All 18 greens were the same.
So having 3+ months to prepare a golf course wasn’t used wisely. I suspect all staff had been furloughed but you need keep up a good level of maintenance on the golf course.
We won’t be going back. I won’t be recommending this course to others and the golf weekend with cousins - we’ll go elsewhere !!
