Left behind

The course is in really poor condition. The rabbits are running amock, plenty of holes all over. Geese excrement all over the ‘greens’. The greens are in a worse condition than the fairways, patchy grass, cracks on many, where the holes had been moved the old holes not cared for. Very disappointed and will not be returning.

Rating one star all along the line.

Disgraceful

Having played messingham 100s of times in the last 30 odd years! I've never seen it in such a, state! The current owners clearly don't care about the 'golf' aspect of the complex, I will never play here again and I hope other take notice and avoid it, such a shame but there's no point sugar coating it

What’s happened to this course

Wow. What can you say. This used to be a very well maintained course with lush greens, tough well kept bunkers and great fairways. Today, the fairways are just about acceptable but the greens and the bunkers. We were told after we finished our round that all bunkers are GUR and that is an understatement. The greens are more brown than green with some of them having cracks in them in desperate need of water. From what I could gather, hoseasons now run the complex and it looks like they are trying to run the course into the ground. We paid £23 each for the round which given the conditions was just about right. Won’t be rushing back for another round. Such a shame as I’ve seen what a great course this can be.

The worst kept course I’ve ever played on

The course layout really had potential with a nice 19th hole BUT the course itself hasn’t seen a mower for over a month. The tee boxes had weeds all over, and the greens - well - simply weren’t green, more brown with weeds and daisies growing on them. The bunkers were also atrocious, I’m sure what I was supposed to do with the rakes that were provided!

Definitely give this one a swerve.

An absolute disgrace of a course

This was likely a nice course in recent years, but has been left to go to ruin. The greens are in an awful state, brown, broken ground and covered in winds. The bunkers are full of old leaves and the sand has gone solid. The fairways are like light rough, with minimal mowing clearly taking place.

Messingham Lakes clearly don't want the golf course as part of their business and have stopped maintaining it.

I wish I had taken some photos, as it has to be seen to be believed.

I suppose it is cheap at £20, but I would avoid at all costs.

Absolutely disgraceful

This course condition is definitely the worst I've ever played. Bunkers GUR full of weeds and filthy. Fairways uncut, full of holes. Greens unbelievably disgusting, full of goose poo. All tees full of rabbit holes.

I would assume that money off the membership is being spent on the lodge development and not on the upkeep of the course.

Definitely not recommending this course.

What a Shambles!!!!

Been a member for over 10 years, the course is in the worst condition I have ever seen it!

The Greens are in fact Browns, the bunkers are like concrete topped with weeds, fallen trees from winds over 12 weeks ago still lie where they fell!

All bunkers are GUR. Seniors are playing on preferred lies in June!!

Green Keepers are nowhere to be seen on course, they are busy cleaning and attending to the lodges which are being promoted as having a golf course to play!!

If it wasn’t for the fact that I’d renewed my membership in the hope things wood improve I would not still be playing! Feel we’ve been ripped off!

Horrendous condition

I have played here 3/4 times now. Usually the course condition is very good however on this day it was absolutely appalling. Grass wasn’t cut on fairways, overgrown and untidy. The greens were completely dead and dry and overall the whole condition of the course was awful. Very disappointing considering it used to be good!

Do not go.

I’ll keep this as short as I can. Greens dead, fairways as long as ankles, bunkers like concrete and fairways like Swiss cheese with all the holes in them. Surprised no one has broke there ankle. Absolutely disgraceful and will be the last time I play here. Not worth £25 at all £10 maybe

Has potential

For the cost £22.50

It was acceptable. The fairways and greens need a mow.

Bunkers haven’t seen any work for months.

The course itself has great potential. It requires work and investment.

Sad to see the course in this condition

I’ve played this course for years. It’s sad to see it so neglected. Greens with daisies growing. Reduced sized green unkept. Fairways like rough. Bird/duck faeces all over. Bunkers with vegetation in and rabbit holes. It’s in a very poor state compared to previous years.

Horrendous Condition

I can’t believe I paid the green fees for this course. The state of it is horrific. The grass is super long, the bunkers haven’t been touched in a long time. There is animal crap EVERYWHERE. You can’t avoid it, even the greens are covered in crap. The only positive is that it’s not busy, which makes sense when it’s in the condition it’s in.
