Wet Sunday
Enjoyable round of golf at Messingham, wet course but very playable. Making it a very testing round if you went off the fairway. Looking forward to playing there later in year with hopefully the sun on my back.
Very good value for money
Originally booked Ashby decoy..but was let down.when course rang to say they had double booked with a society...was told the day before!..but tee time was still showing on app.as available!....then couldnt get refund on app for some reason..I had to ring up and was told I would get my refund soon..(still not got it).so I had to find other course to play, luckily found 1 at messingham...
Poor golf
I phoned up before i booked a tee time. Was told all the hole's was open and the course was good. Got there every hole was on a winter green (NOT EVEN A WINTER GREEN A HOLE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN UNCUT FAIRWAY ) on every hole apart from 2 because they was closed pay a full price of £25 £100. Was 4 of us playing absolutely discussing we have played here 100s of tomes never seen it so bad
Half the course closed
Not really a review of the course as I like it but for some reason every other course in my area is almost fully open yet messingam have every single tee box and every single green closed. Also multiple holes closed, and yet you have charged me full price. I would not have played if I knew the course was basically 50% out of use. Not sure why I’m paying full price to attempt to putt basically in the rough
Disappointed
Arrived at the course to be told that all greens are temporary greens, despite the website saying the course offers a great experience no matter the time of year.
Two holes were completely closed, not even offered a temporary green.
Several fairways were very boggy, to the point just walking on them was prohibited, again on the website the course was described as well drained. The actual greens not in use looked very good well maintained which added to frustrations.
The temporary greens weren’t even that, just a hole cut in the fairway, not even a small circle of cut back grass.
All tee boxes were pulled forward which made holes a lot shorter.
Overall a disappointing experience on what on the face of it looks a very nice course
What a load of Rhubarb
Absolutely do not play this course unless you’re a beginner. What a load of garbage . Not worth even £10 a round . Much , Much better courses in the area . I’d say pay a bit extra . Holes on temps , tee boxes just look like they have thrown markers randomly on the floor . The only hole that looks any good and well kept is the 18th and I can guess the reason why . It’s right outside the clubhouse. Which was very nicely updated. Shame they haven’t spent as much money on the course . My back garden is in better condition than this . Sorry Messingham you have let a perfectly good course go to ruin . Shame on you !!
Course was in a tired condition.
4 temporary greens were in use which weren’t prepared at all and was just a flag stuck in a piece of fairway. Fairways look like they haven't been cut in a while and were very patchy.
Tee boxes were not proper Tee boxes and again we’re just markers stuck on a piece of overgrown fairway. At times they were very hard to spot.
The greens that were in play were in ok condition and rolled with a good pace. For the price there is better quality courses to play for that money
Overall, the course just look tired and look like it had not been well maintained in recent times
Do not play this course in winter
I recently played what was meant to be an 18 hole round at Messingham Lakes, although only 16 holes were available due to two being closed.
The 16 holes that were open were using temporary greens, but they were unplayable. It appeared that flags had simply been placed in the fairway, and the grass had not even been cut!
No discount was offered, it was £25 which is the price they charge in the middle of summer!
I understand holes may need to be closed or have temporary greens but they should be at least playable and a discount should be offered.
Save your money
Just book elsewhere this used to be a great course but unfortunately now is not in good condition. And you really feel they do not want golfers or members getting on the way of Lodge guests
Greens fabulous
What a great course greens were superb and course had many eye pleasing holes. Definitely play again. Staff in clubhouse very friendly and good was superb. Great value for money.
Fairways
Fairways were like playing off concrete with barely any grass on them, luckily i kept away from them. Greens were excellent obviously the hose pipe ban and dry weather is to blame for that other than that a very nice course
Messingham Lakes
Not played for a while so I'm bit of a duffer. Good course to start on, not to taxing. Really enjoyed the day, got held up by a 4 ball , poor eticate. Went for a snack after , a d that was lovely. Staff very helpful and friendly too. Will definitely go back
Course is terrible
Greens good but fairways full of weds and tee boxes like a bonb site. Holes on tee boxes and I fairway.
Very disappointed as has potential but needs some effort spent on ourselves. Cabins look good as we walked around but nothing to so really as clubhouse over priced but can go elsewhere but TBH we are looking for pace and golf is key for us si not an option unfortunately as in such a poor conu!
Messingham lakes
No golf shop had to wait at the bar to be served behind loads of golfers waiting for drinks
Poor condition
I used to be a member and the course was never immaculate but the condition currently is the worse I’ve ever seen it. There seems to be a lot of work going into the log cabins that they’ve maybe took their eye off the ball when it comes to the golf course. I do like the layout of the course but the condition massively lets it down. I only paid £21 but I certainly wouldn’t recommend this course at the moment.
