Golfer Reviews
Course not looked after although playable for an amateur
I visited with my Dad and we are both amateurs. For us the course was playable though clearly not looked after. We were told by another player that the greenkeepers haven’t been out for 3 months and this was noticeable by the long grass on the fairways and daisies growing from the greens. Although, the greens were playable and for us it didn’t make too much difference though l could see how it would affect a better player.
Fairways are hit and miss, grass is irregular lengths. Greens are uneven and require work to bring them back to last year’s standard.
Water level on some ponds and bunkers are out of play and need attention.
Shocking course
Absolutely awful. It was like playing in a farmer's field the grass was that long. Weeds and rabbit holes everywhere. Fallen branches threaten to trip you up. The Greens have daisies actually flowering on them it's been so long since they have been cut. Every bunker is out of play which is just as well as they are either full of water, leaves or rabbit burrows. Go somewhere else.
Not the course it used to be
Sadly the course has gone somewhat downhill over the last year. The fairways are in a poor condition and even a cut would help improve them. The greens are ok but the tee boxes are very poor and the bunkers were unplayable. I appreciate the course is low lying and seems to hold a lot of water but it never used to impact so much when playing here. A lot of money seems to have been spent on the club house and the “static caravan” site but this appears not to be the case with the golf course itself. I know it was a bank
holiday but there wasn’t a green keeper in sight.
Worst course I have played
I used to be a member of this course a few years ago and it was always well maintained. I played it last September and I was disappointed with the course conditions and lack of maintenance. I played it today 6th April and it was horrendous conditions. None of the fairways had been cut and every bunker was rock hard and unplayable. What a shame. There was no one working on the course. I will never play this course again. Stay well clear of this course.
WOW absolute garbage
I have played this course 35-40 times but not for 5 years or so, booked on for a 4 Ball & was really disappointed, course was awful, bunkers full of water or leaves or both, no fairways cut, branches all over place, spoke to a member who said all green staff had been moved to help with cabins so not been on course for months apart from cutting greens(which were good), won't be back again absolute waste of £22, dog track
Messingham Grange
Played on Sunday 1/3/26 and only got round 3 holes as course was that wet it should not have been open.
I have played there many times and it is a really nice course but since all the rain we have had they should not be taking money so was a waste of time and money playing there until it dries out .
Fully open and played well in mid February
No temporary greens today on the enjoyable, slightly forward winter tees. Greenkeepers have done a good job over winter and the fairways are trim and compact as best you can expect this time of year. Bodes well for Spring.
Usually nice course
Usually nice course, spoiled by temp greens. I understand sometimes temp greens are necessary due to weather conditions but it was literally just a hole in the rough on some holes. Pretty much pointless even putting on a couple of occasions. The greens that were open were still nice.
Wet Sunday
Enjoyable round of golf at Messingham, wet course but very playable. Making it a very testing round if you went off the fairway. Looking forward to playing there later in year with hopefully the sun on my back.
Very good value for money
Originally booked Ashby decoy..but was let down.when course rang to say they had double booked with a society...was told the day before!..but tee time was still showing on app.as available!....then couldnt get refund on app for some reason..I had to ring up and was told I would get my refund soon..(still not got it).so I had to find other course to play, luckily found 1 at messingham...
Poor golf
I phoned up before i booked a tee time. Was told all the hole's was open and the course was good. Got there every hole was on a winter green (NOT EVEN A WINTER GREEN A HOLE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN UNCUT FAIRWAY ) on every hole apart from 2 because they was closed pay a full price of £25 £100. Was 4 of us playing absolutely discussing we have played here 100s of tomes never seen it so bad
Half the course closed
Not really a review of the course as I like it but for some reason every other course in my area is almost fully open yet messingam have every single tee box and every single green closed. Also multiple holes closed, and yet you have charged me full price. I would not have played if I knew the course was basically 50% out of use. Not sure why I’m paying full price to attempt to putt basically in the rough
Disappointed
Arrived at the course to be told that all greens are temporary greens, despite the website saying the course offers a great experience no matter the time of year.
Two holes were completely closed, not even offered a temporary green.
Several fairways were very boggy, to the point just walking on them was prohibited, again on the website the course was described as well drained. The actual greens not in use looked very good well maintained which added to frustrations.
The temporary greens weren’t even that, just a hole cut in the fairway, not even a small circle of cut back grass.
All tee boxes were pulled forward which made holes a lot shorter.
Overall a disappointing experience on what on the face of it looks a very nice course
What a load of Rhubarb
Absolutely do not play this course unless you’re a beginner. What a load of garbage . Not worth even £10 a round . Much , Much better courses in the area . I’d say pay a bit extra . Holes on temps , tee boxes just look like they have thrown markers randomly on the floor . The only hole that looks any good and well kept is the 18th and I can guess the reason why . It’s right outside the clubhouse. Which was very nicely updated. Shame they haven’t spent as much money on the course . My back garden is in better condition than this . Sorry Messingham you have let a perfectly good course go to ruin . Shame on you !!
