Don’t waste your time or money
We’ve played here every year for the past 5 years and it’s been on a steady decline but this year was by far the worst. £45 a head for a course in disastrous condition. I know the winter isn’t kind to the course but even by late July it’s still shocking and to be charging £45 a head for what is now probably a lower quality course than a municipal is shameful. All bunkers were GUR, the fairways were at best ok but the rough is absolutely shocking. Chances are you don’t find your ball if it goes in it and even if you do getting the ball out of the rough or even out with any sort of distance is nigh on impossible unless you’re Rory or Scottie. If I’d paid £20 for this round I’d still be unimpressed but £45 really doesn’t feel like you’ve had your pants down. That said, the staff etc at the course are all very welcoming although there was no kitchen open even on a Saturday which again, is strange for any course. I hope the course can recover and get back to where it was as it’s a really nice course to play when it’s in good condition but as it stands I really fear for its future and if it closed it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.
Disappointed
I should have read the previous reviews! The course is on a flood plain so 9 holes are closed most of the time the members told me. I could only play back 9 in mid July and this had loads of standing water.
The bunkers are laughable, just mud and weeds, I guess any sand is washed away when flooded so they just gave up. Tee boxes large so cope with wear well. Greens ok, quite firm but a little patchy. 1st and 2nd cut off fairway too long, so you'll have to keep it on the short stuff or the ball is gone. I guess the mowers can't get on due to the wet ground?
Pace of play hopelessly slow on the day I visited so avoid morning tee times.
Overall really disappointed for £45 9 Hole course.
Grange
No kitchen,
Teeboxes scruffy & needing strimmed.
Fareways too long with grass cutting clumps all over. First cuts & roughs too long or overgrow, where you could easily loose your balls.
Tree bases need strimming.
Greens are bumpy & burned & seriously need water & weed treatment.
Apart from the time the pumps packed in, it’s the worst we’ve seen it!
Condition and layout
Course condition is patchy and soggy. All bunkers are mud and weed with not maintenance. Greens on several holes are bad. All greens are extremely slow. The hole routing is haphazard and dangerous at times. The layout is good.
Wet and only 9holes
Booked 18 but only 9 open, no mention of this when booked, this course is in serious need of as the famous Peter Alissa says drains and more drains ,poor condition due to extremely bad drainage, committee! Take note we have just had the best weather in spring for years yet you're course is half closed due to poor management and lack of adequate no of drainage, this problem is totally predictable and preventable with moor drainage then the course and the club will benefit hugely, regards club golfer for
Over forty years regards Kevin Wood
Friendly staff
Very friendly staff a little disorganised no one available at first to sort out buggy no pro shop
Course a little bit unkept needed a bit of TLC
Great Setting
Excellent parkland course, a lot trickier than first appearances may suggest, the (many) trees make it interesting and course management is needed.
Nice and flat so suitable for all abilities, the greens are in excellent condition, particularly for the time of year.
We met quite a few members whilst playing and some even came over for a quick chat, most welcoming.
The clubhouse is excellent and the staff helpful and friendly.
Would happily recommend this course to anyone from beginner to seasoned golfer.
Poor Course
overall, this course is very poor. Course very wet even with no rain for a week, all drainage ditches full, one fairway completely under water. All bunkers were GUR. easy to lose a golf ball just off the uncut fairways.
no direction markers to tee boxes, some tees facing down the wring fairway.
Good course, great staff
Played here on 19/7 , very interesting course , lots of dog legs so good positioning from the tee is vital .
Course was in really good condition
Members were very friendly and the lady in the pro shop was incredibly helpful and welcoming.
I have played here before and will definitely be back on our next trip to Cartmel
Disappointed
I was really looking forward to this course, entered the pro shop which an extremely limited option of refreshments on offer. Quite a lot of the course was in poor condition.
The biggest letdown was the pace of play and poor etiquette. Sadly I won’t return
Very Friendly Course
Nice clubhouse, the course is very flat and in good condition, The staff are helpful and fruendky
The course is easy walking.
Played this course not expecting it to be great after the wet winter but l was very surprised at how good it was and given the chance l would play it again.
Grange over Sands
Booked this the night before play.
Turned up in the morning & the course was flooded due to an ongoing flooding problem.
The pumping system installed to remove excess rain water from the course was not operational.
The Golf Now booking system didn’t notify us that the course had a problem.
The staff, who were very apologetic, offered us another tee time to compensate.
Note: this is a really nice course with friendly staff & members. Should be on everyones bucket list.
A pleasant surprise
Visited as part of our third golf week in the area but first time here. Really enjoyed our round, wasn’t expecting too much as we thought it might be a bit flat and up and down, however we were very pleasantly surprised. Some fun, interesting holes and greens, requiring some precision and accuracy. Course was a bit water logged in places but greens were in amazing condition considering the weather. Members we spoke to were friendly and welcoming. We will definitely return on our next trip.
W😮W!
What a great little course with such a warm welcome and at a great price. The course is flat and fairly short but requires strategy and accuracy. A thinking golfers course. Would highly recommend Grange Over Sands.
Great course
Very friendly staff & excellent course pretty flat hidden gem a must for older players
