Course has become the worst in staffordshire
I played here several years ago when they still owned the clubhouse and for the price it was a delight.
Upon playing again I will never go back.
The green's have no grass on them and are very bobbly. The tees are uneven and drier than the Sahara, you need a hammer to get your tees in.
I had to get changed in the toilets as they have sold the clubhouse that contains the changing rooms!
The bunkers are the worst I have ever seen. The sand is like grit with stones in that damages your club and has only a tiny bit of "sand" in, therefore your club bounces out, underneath the thin layer is hard clay or in one bunker an actual mat!
There is one ball cleaner all the way round where a member joked that it hasn't seen water since the eighties.
I asked one of the members if they had made any investment in the course, to which they responded..... No, but they have put the prices up. They also said an email had gone out to members where everyone's grievances were made, but it was a list of excuses and no actions apparently. I can not fathom why at the very least they can't water greens at night like other courses.
The people at the local bar said that in winter it is unbelievably bad and some temp greens are uncut and just white circles on a fairway that your ball rolls off.
My friends are members of westwood (by no means the beat course in staffordshire) but when I played their two days earlier, the green's were actually green..... And soft. Course kept inovy condition, welcoming atmosphere and actually have sand in bunkers, on top of this they have the luxury of changing rooms and a shop that doesn't just sell under armour.
Considering to be a member of westwood is and extra 100 and on top of all the above simple things, the members get a say..... It astounds me.
I did leave a shorter bit of constructive feedback on Facebook, however my comment was removed and they blocked me. A great way to deal with social Media.

Poor temp greens
Beautiful course but paying £17.50 to putt on a fairway is ridiculous. I may as well of left my putter in the car. The temp greens weren’t cut and a few were put on the side of hills making them unplayable. A waste of time and money. Such a shame.
Great course
We’ve only been playing for about 6 months but this was a step above the other 3 local courses we’ve played. Fairways were well kept, nice and short - provided the opportunity for clean shots every stroke. We found one or two of the winter tees a bit tricky to find but the regulars were happy to point us in the right direction. Really enjoyed the layout of the course, with a good mix of long and short holes well sequences so it never felt like a slog.
Great day
Played here plenty of times, and it never disappoints. Take your tin hat for shared fairways on hole 2 and 17, but once this is navigated its open and a really good test for all abilities. I have I'll definitely be returning soon.
Interesting course and will be back soon
Interesting course with a very good variety of challenging holes for all abilities with well placed hazards and sloping fairways. I also must say go for the bacon roll and coffee on arrival.....you will not be disappointed!
Friendly but a bit of a let down
Greenway Hall could be so much better and attract so many more. Don't be put off by the 8 par threes, it is a good challenge but it has issues. Due to the space of the course there are several cross overs so you must have your wits about you. Played off the whites today although there is not a lot of difference between them all. Fairways overall were OK but a few lacked sufficient grass and needed more water, 10-13 especially. Greens were really slow and needed a cut. The course is quite undulating and our biggest challenge came on the back nine with two holes in particular. The 14th is a par five set on a slanting gradient and no matter how you hit the ball it will either roll onto the 15th green, across the 4th fairway or you will lose your ball. Every golfer we saw used their full allocation searching for the ball. Whilst I understand holes should be challenging surely for a par 5 you should be able to land your ball on the fairway. Next the 15th, a short par 4, again no fairway, this hole was just over 200 yards, but if you can't carry the ball that distance there is no where to go. These two holes need a rethink as they spoiled what could be a nice little track
Fairway punishment
I have never played a course where you are punished so much for actually being on the fairway. Some holes the fairway is like playing off a scrubbing board it's so full of ridges and others if you hit the fairway the slope is so severe it runs off across 2 holes. A driveable par 4 length wise if it wasn't for the fact the entire front of the green is blocked by massive trees making it impossible to go for. 5 holes ruin what could be a decent course.
They have also closed the clubhouse which served amazing food and all they have is a small cafe at the driving range where you have to sit in the pro shop.
With abit of course modifications and some effort from the management this place could be great but until that's done I won't be back.
Greens, what greens?
We looked forward to playing Greenway as we had heard that it was a challenging but high quality course that is great to play.
From the first hole it became apparent that this was not the case. The 1st hole was a ‘temporary green’ basically it was a flag on the hill. I hit it with 3ft and 3 putted as it was a set on a steep slope.
The greens didn’t get much better. It appeared as if the had rust been layed and had not been given the time to bed in. This meant that it was like putting on a wooden table, there was no reading the putt, this significantly affected the score and made the round less enjoyable. All in all it didn’t stand up to the billing. We paid a premium for a Thursday tee time at £18 which doesn’t represent value for money based on the course condition.
Conditions if the course
Used to be a cracking golf club for many years. The last few years I feel the owners have let the club go into the unknown. The closing of the main club house/bar and restaurant and seen a decline in custom and members over the years. The course is in such a bad state and still charging a very high price for a round of golf. I think there attention as been mainly put into the driving range and have took there eye of the actually golf course. A lot of work is required.
Brilliant challenge
Staff great, clubhouse welcoming, course an interesting challenge, my golf…..hit and miss . Thoroughly enjoyed it
Greenway Hall super course
A splendid Golf course in a wonderful setting, after a four hole climb to the top section of the course we spent the next three hours up there discovering the wonderful holes before our long loo forward to descent with some stunning 'down' holes, a couple of crossovers were slightly concerning but everyone manages them well. the greens were slightly bumpy for June but I think this was down to the type of grass grown. Overall a great experience and if you are in the area it should be played. Lovely clubhouse and service afterwards.
Poor greens
Very uneven ground and greens were slow with patches .
