Value for money
With our home course closed due to recent heavy rain we looked for a course open to get a round of golf.
A very warm & friendly welcome in the Pro Shop. A cup of coffee in the clubhouse then onto the course.
Surprisingly, after recent heavy rain, the course was dry & played well. The course is quite forgiving with wide fairways.
We got around the course easily with no hold ups or slow play.
The only downside was when we went in the clubhouse after golf the coffee machine had been turned off & there was no fresh milk to make an instant coffee. A small hiccup which did not spoil our enjoyable experience,
We found Kilton Forest good value for money
Terrible
No starter ensuring space between groups. Pace of play was terrible. Waiting 10 mins on every hole. Shambolic. Left after 13 holes which had taken nearly 4 hours.
Great winter course, long holes makes a good challenge
Kilton is not seen as one of the higher level courses in our area, but then winter comes and all of a sudden those people who did not give it a moment then realise its one of the best courses in the area during bad weather. The fairways are quite long grass but more lush than unkempt, the greens are fine and in some places you will find the odd bobble but its a 15 or 20 quid course with limited staff, what can you honestly expect? The course has some solid par 4s and par 5s which are not easy to reach even for long hitters in the winter weather. The course is quite open and hole 11 can be affected by flooding but only meaning a shorter green. The staff are really helpful and friendly, the food is excellent. I would be surprised if you can find a better value course which is fully open in the area. The best winter course by a mile is College Pines GC but thats 32 quid and packed out in winter. Do not dismiss Kilton if you live locally, it will surprise you and if you want a round in the bad weather this course is solid.
Good value for money.
Challenging course, some long holes when the wind is blowing.
Fairways and greens were a little shaggy and running very slow. Must have had a lot of rain recently.
Greens have many worm castings all over the place. I did see a sign that said the grounds crew has applied insecticide so hopefully it works. Hired a buggy with my OAP father-in-law. We needed it to keep the pace of play, 3h 20m. A couple guys behind us were on our heels almost the whole back 9.
Overall very good
Very good course with some tricky holes. Quite a few long par 4s so driver and 3 wood got a lot of use. It's essential to stay in the fairways as the rough is very unforgiving as it should. £15 for early tee time made the experience even better
A few tweaks needed
Friendly staff, good course layout and good value for money.
This is the 2nd time I’ve played and both times the pace of play has been slow.
The course could do with a bit of TLC, the grass is too long when just off the fairway and the tee boxes need a tidy.
Overall, would play again for the money.
Kilton Forest
Really Good course and not as easy as slope index suggests very well maintained and good value for money
Nice course
Despite the weather course played very well
Only negatives were dog walkers in middle of fairway and allowing dogs to run on greens
Excellent layout, but…
First time being back at Kilton for a few years. Course is short in most places but still a challenge, hole layouts are different across the course which made it enjoyable. Greens are not in good condition, playable yes but need help. Respectfully the £13 green fee was accurate, wouldn’t pay more. Realistically if you’re looking for a bit of a “practice round” (without putting) I would recommend.
Best Municipal course within 100 miles !
This has to be the best municipal course within 100 miles !
Greens soft and true, fairways lush.
The only downside is the bunkers could do with plenty more sand in them but other than that, absolutely amazing coirse, clubhouse and facilities ! Beautiful !
Played in a 4 ball
Very pleasant day, started with breakfast, followed by a round of golf and a couple of drinks afterwards.
For a municipal course it is in an OK condition and the layout makes it interesting.
Fantastic value for money definitely be going back.
Don’t bother
Greens were poor and the rough was disgusting. Slightly miss hit a shot or hit a long drive and wave good bye to your ball as you won’t be finding it
Decent course for the money
Enjoyed playing here and would come back. Staff very friendly, greens a bit slow and tee bays not the best condition.
Unfortunately, the round was spoilt by 2 x 4 balls not letting 2 balls through so we were backed up on tees.
This also meant the kitchen had shut for food by the time we got back.
A Friendly Welcome
My playing partner and I enjoyed our first visit to Kilton Forest.
The fairways are nice and wide and there's a variety of holes to maintain interest.
We felt welcome and look forward to returning soon.
