Poorly maintained
Second time playing this course. Others are running firm, well drained and maintained at this time of year (May) but Lingfield has more rough than fairway, is very boggy and the greens mossy and bare patches. Sadly not worth the money so won't be returning.
A lovely course is in there, it doesn’t get a chance to shine
Played on a Bank Holiday Monday afternoon.
Course was in poor condition throughout and looked neglected too.
Where to start?
Ok, staff were welcoming enough when we arrived and booked in.
But golf is usually all about the course.
This one is wet, very heavy and sodden on every hole.
At times we couldn’t determine the fairway from the rough as the grass was so long.
Clearly everyone ignores the requests to repair pitch marks.
Greens were badly pitted and uneven making that part of the game a bit of a lottery as well.
Came off covered in mud, and our Achilles were painful from walking in the Somme -like fairways.
Spend any longer on here and your likely to get trenchfoot.
Which is all a real shame.
This is a nicely designed course with a some cracking holes and would present a real test to some.
But it doesn’t get a chance
Don’t waste your money
Worst condition course I’ve ever had the misfortune of playing. Fairways haven’t been cut for weeks, tee boxes are anything but flat and bunkers full of plants and stones. 90 minutes to play the first 4 holes due to slow play in front.
Awful condition
I've played Lingfield a fair bit over the last 5 years. It was as bad on Sunday as I can remember in terms of condition of the course. Last couple of years they've made real improvements
It looks like it needs a rest, wet weather won't help in cutting fairways which were hard to distinguish from rough, but the greens were in terrible shape. Tee boxes un kept, fairways like bogs. I thought they were making lots of strides forward after a terrible few years. Looking neglected again
Shocking
The course was unplayable completely flooded, the fairways was not cut it was like playing on a farmers field. The greens was not maintained and patchy this should have not been open a complete waste of money and time the wet clay you are expected to play off is ridiculous. To top the day off a member of my group needed to leave after 5 hours after only getting to the 16th hole bearing in mind there was only two of us as the three ball ahead was so slow and not allowing people to play through but there was not a member of staff in sight checking for slow play the course was not managed.
Don’t bother
I accept the weather has been wet in the last week, but, we booked yesterday with no warnings as to the course condition. We arrived early and asked the shop manager how the course was- slightly wet on the 2nd and 3rd fairway was the advice.
The course is an absolute joke and is that wet, they’ve not been able to cut some of the fairways for seemingly a couple of weeks. It took us ( a 3-ball) over an hour to finish the first 3 holes due to the backlog in front. We lost 4 balls on the fairway due to the long grass and wet ground.
Any respectable course would have closed, but it’s obvious Marriott don’t care about the experience, just the money in the till.
We paid £90 to give you this review- please don’t wast your money after reading it.
Unloved Golf Course
Played Saturday 4th March. 4hrs 20mins for a Two Ball, absolutely awful. No visible marshals speeding up play.
50% of tees were of uneven mats, 80% of bunkers with grass growing in and the greens patchy with lots of diseased/dead grass.
Group behind walked in after 11 holes.
Not worth the £25 fee!!!!!!!.
Rate round
Was very good value for money, only drawback was behind 2 four balls who took a while every hole.
Poor condition
Course is in serious need of attention !! Think they must have sacked their green keepers … I was only looking to knock balls around on my own but if I had gone there with a few mates to have a serious round of golf I would not have been very happy … I’ve always like to play here but they need to start looking after the course before it’s to late ….
Nice course
Great facilities and staff, good condition all things considered with the rainy weather of late
Nice track
First time out on here , loved the layout shame no electric trolley were available would definitely play again, with a buggy! Couple of the hole were a hard walk for this injured golfer
Not open
The course wasn’t open. There were no staff. No flags in holes. Shouldn’t have been allowed to book if the course was not going to be attended.
Nice course
Course not in good condition which was understandable given the weather . Some great holes to play though and worth a visit when conditions improve
Perhaps wait until it is drier
The welcome was very friendly but perhaps better wait until drier times.
Unfortunately, it seemed that they had missed the opportunity to mow in drier times so the fairways were muddy and with high grass. The first 9 was sort of OK given time of year but the second 9 was really an unacceptable muddy field. I lost three balls on second 9 - all on the fairway!
