Shortcomings
The biggest issue was the lack of a buggy. The buggy park had no shortage of vehicles at 10 am when we arrived for our 10.20 booking but we were told all had been booked. On the course we noticed most players were on foot and when we returned almost four hours later there were still unused machines in the buggy park. How were the vehicles ALL fully booked?
Welcome visit?
Booked an early tee off, waited for the pro shop to open. No one in front or behind so I could play at my own pace, which allowed time for cleaning sand off the golf ball on the greens , trying to find a ball after a blind tee shot. So much sand on the greens made pitching and putting a lottery. Morning dew meant ball just gathered sand like a snowball as it rolled over the greens. I wish there was some way either the course of golf now would advise when the greens have been treated like that, so they can be avoided, feel I paid full price for a poor experience. Some excellent views from the highest holes of Stratford. Quite a challenging course, quite tight off the tee, some blind.tee shots, big elevation changes made choosing the right club difficult, greens mostly flat.. nice looking golf course, in countryside, even saw a couple of deer grazing alongside a fairway.
Challenging
Haven’t played for 3 years so have the usual
Aches and pains after playing on this up and down course, I my thing I would change is I would get a buggy next time until I start playing regularly again as the last 6 holes hurt me for sure
Good course and a good challenge. Quite hilly in parts, but a great round overall.
Great course
Great course but second cut was to long we spent far to much time looking for balls only if just off the fairways and lost a couple of balls along the way. Great layout we will play this course again.
Very Hilly … but Enjoyable!
Enjoyed The Welcombe today. There’s a mixed bag of holes out there and some big hills that older unfit guys will really struggle on especially if carrying.
The greens were running very true and were quite impressive but there were far too many bunkers in need of some TLC and over growing with large weeds.
You need to play this course a couple of times to get to know it. On a few blind holes we drove on what really should have been an iron.
But it was charming, some great holes, beautiful trees and ponds lining some of the holes. Would certainly return.
Great course worth 30 all day
What a course drove the green on dingle bend to 7ft and poachers drop drove the green and hit a 380 yard drive on the 18th leaving 100 yards to the flag very hilly older players may want a buggy but amazing layout and greens are smooth and fast 10/10 will be playing here a good few times more
No booking!
The course did not have a record of my golf now booking, so we had to wait 40 minutes for a tee slot, causing 2 of the 4 ball to have to walk off at the 16th to get back in time to go out to dinner.
Ben in The pro shop said we were the second golf now group to arrive today where they had no record of the booking.
Great golf course.
This is such an interesting golf course and each hole presents different challenges. 18 holes is a good 7 mile walk and quite hilly so would possibly recommend a buggy for the less energetic golfer. Greens and fairways in great condition when we played, although very stray balls will find deep rough at 12-18 inches. Club member advised that this is due to covid low staff levels of green keepers although this may change in the next week or two. Fabulous scenery and views to take in.
Don’t play in the rain..
I like this course and have played it many times. I booked a 4 ball in the rain, when there are no grounds men on the course it really shows when they are needed. Greens full of puddles. Not nice. I think the guys in the office should be offering refunds when it’s like this at the start of the round. I get the feeling it’s not in their control anyway… which is a shame.
So, rain.. nope, sun.. always interesting. Just take a step out of the corporate dross once in a while please, this course will only get better when you do!
Great fun
Course is really fun and some very challenging holes that require good course management!!
Great test.
The course was in excellent condition despite a period of drought. Greens were the best I have played on for a long time.
Welcome Spa & Golf Stratford
Let me start by saying that this is a very nice course with some great holes. However today our round was spoilt completely by the rough. The first cut was 3 or 4 inches deep and the grass was very thick, so balls just disappeared and were hard to find, between the 3 of us we lost about 10 balls in the first cut. The main rough was again very thick grass which was between 12 and 28 inches deep and through the whole round we only found about half a dozen ball that went into this stuff. While the fairways and greens were in very good order the round was completely spoiled by the rough. The course was quiet however with having to search for balls the round took 5 hours .15 minutes and to rub salt into the wound all the facilities were closed when we finished at 6.15, as it was 26 degrees we were desperate for a drink so we went to the adjoining hotel where the drinks were very expensive ( £5 a pint). So a very disappointing experience on what is normally a decent course.
