Hallmark Hotel The Welcombe, Spa & Golf Club

The course did not have a record of my golf now booking, so we had to wait 40 minutes for a tee slot, causing 2 of the 4 ball to have to walk off at the 16th to get back in time to go out to dinner.

Ben in The pro shop said we were the second golf now group to arrive today where they had no record of the booking.

This is such an interesting golf course and each hole presents different challenges. 18 holes is a good 7 mile walk and quite hilly so would possibly recommend a buggy for the less energetic golfer. Greens and fairways in great condition when we played, although very stray balls will find deep rough at 12-18 inches. Club member advised that this is due to covid low staff levels of green keepers although this may change in the next week or two. Fabulous scenery and views to take in.

I like this course and have played it many times. I booked a 4 ball in the rain, when there are no grounds men on the course it really shows when they are needed. Greens full of puddles. Not nice. I think the guys in the office should be offering refunds when it’s like this at the start of the round. I get the feeling it’s not in their control anyway… which is a shame.

So, rain.. nope, sun.. always interesting. Just take a step out of the corporate dross once in a while please, this course will only get better when you do!

Course is really fun and some very challenging holes that require good course management!!

The course was in excellent condition despite a period of drought. Greens were the best I have played on for a long time.

Let me start by saying that this is a very nice course with some great holes. However today our round was spoilt completely by the rough. The first cut was 3 or 4 inches deep and the grass was very thick, so balls just disappeared and were hard to find, between the 3 of us we lost about 10 balls in the first cut. The main rough was again very thick grass which was between 12 and 28 inches deep and through the whole round we only found about half a dozen ball that went into this stuff. While the fairways and greens were in very good order the round was completely spoiled by the rough. The course was quiet however with having to search for balls the round took 5 hours .15 minutes and to rub salt into the wound all the facilities were closed when we finished at 6.15, as it was 26 degrees we were desperate for a drink so we went to the adjoining hotel where the drinks were very expensive ( £5 a pint). So a very disappointing experience on what is normally a decent course.

Hotel courses don’t seem to try and this was no exception.

Slow 4 ball prompted two groups behind to merge into 5 ball and no Marshall about to prevent my two ball taking 5 hours.

Never again.

Great course, interesting holes. Only going to get better as the greens improve. Beautiful grounds and feature holes. Always happy to play here.

The rough on the Welcome course was very rough and certainly needed mowing down to a reasonable height.

I clearly understand what the rough part of the course is meant for but to loose a ball ever time it enters the rough is a bit unfair.

One further complaint was that the putting practice range was awful, all but about two matts had rubber tees in place and none of the mats were level and felt like sandpaper.

Great course. In very good condition. Plenty of variety. Would definitely recommend and will return to play again

Course was in excellent condition and well maintained. Challenging holes for all levels of golfer.

Course in good condition. Difficult to find any ball not on fairway. No rakes in bunkers. Pace of play fairly slow.

Pace of play was a bit slow but overall didn’t spoil the enjoyment. Course in reasonably good condition with lots of up and downs it won’t suit everyone.

Some awesome holes makes me wish I could have played better to enjoy it more

We didn't play because of the bad weather course was flooded.

Weather conditions were tough but the course held up extremely well

When I booked the round through Golf Now the first payment appeared to suggest it failed, when I tried again I got the same fail rate. On checking the payment processed twice, for one round. Have tried to contact Golf Now, but the numbers do not appear to work.

Play the welcombe for the first time will definitely be back again
