Always a good day out
Greens were consistent and fast. Fairways were hard but still green for middle of July. This is a varied and interesting course for all abilities. The only downside is off course - no breakfast and no lunch! Not sure why as pretty much everyone is a visitor not a member.
Very slow play
I played with a friend as ac2 ball on Wednesday 15th and had a tee off of 11:45. Unfortunately there were 16 people , all teeing off before us on some sort of corporate day. It was clear that half the people could not play golf and had no knowledge of course etiquette even though we were waiting on the tee behind them they showed no intention of calling us through.
We started 20 mins late at 12:05 and finished the front 9 holes by 14:45 and finally finished after 17:00. Over 5 hours most of which was just standing and waiting.
We shall not return
Very slow play.
Course in absolutely superb condition, and greens, very poor pace of play, to many people on the course, golf now shouldn't keep on booking when it's full, 4 groups waiting on the 10th hole is taking the mick, only played 10 holes.
Buggys are a bit overpriced at £35, but I will say they are the best buggy I've been in with GPS and map of where your going and how far to the pin.
Lovely course
Really nice course and somewhat of surprise that we’d not played on this course . .Amazing stately home/ hotel just off the 16th and it would of been much better if the clubhouse was linked to that .
Slow pace of play and poor etiquette but well kept course
Really good quality course, greens were immaculate and fairways really well kept! Having a seniors match two groups in front of us meant play was very slow (waiting up to 20 mins at the 12th to tee off with two groups waiting behind (should seniors matches really be teeing off at 1:20 on a Saturday afternoon?). My group are by no means experienced golfers but a train of groups like this is ridiculous and means you’re being watched with every shot you take, making it less enjoyable than going at your own pace - we estimate it took an hour longer because of the slower groups and would be at least that if further behind.
Course is tricky, probably best for a mid to low handicapper as a lot of tricky holes and being able to shape shots would be a massive advantage.
Staff in the pro shop not particularly helpful, asked if there were any trolleys for hire and just had an instant no. Asked if any carts could be hired (the Welcombe is hilly) and again, straight no even with 10 or so parked out the front of the clubhouse… felt like they were put out we asked questions.
Overall, nice but tough course, needs better managing.
Awesome course
This course is both challenging and fun. Beware it has one or two hills so unless you are an Iron Man the. Grab one of the reasonable buggies.
I great day on a beautiful course.
Nice but lengthy walks to the tees
Nice pretty course, good greens and friendly staff. However the par 4s are quite long and the lengthy walks from green to the next tee - down through a road and back up again was exhausting. Get a buggy. Great views of the countryside.
Interesting course in great condition
Plenty of character, great fairways and greens. Fresh silver sand in the bunkers.
