Will Sharpen your Short Game
An excellent nine hole Par 3 course. Challenging, as there are a few trees overhanging and with narrow fairways, you have to be accurate. Lots of water come into play. Most greens are elevated and need careful shots to stop the ball on the green. We’ll laid out course in beautiful surroundings and refreshments are available at the hotel. If I lived closer, would become a member as it would really sharpen up my short game. Would make a great venue for a corporate function but beginners would need plenty of balls. All in all a great couple of hours to play 18 holes and was very quiet on the day we played.
Fine par 3 course but watch out for the hazards/guests
Excellent course, well maintained and short but challenging holes. We played on a Sunday afternoon which was very quiet in terms of golfers but quite the opposite in terms of hotel guests. There was a wedding or christening celebration underway whilst we played which provided some interesting background music. However the main issue was that there were hundreds of guests at the event and they wandered continuously around the course, both adults and children running and walking across fairways, greens and tee boxes. This was very disruptive, unnerving and very dangerous meaning we constantly had to wait, shout or walk down the course to ask people to move out of the way. As I said in the title, watch out for the hazards. Someone will get hurt if this is allowed to continue. It’s a real shame because it is an enjoyable and challenging short course.
TLC Required
To use the word championship in its current condition is misleading, don't get me wrong the layout is fantastic but the conditions of the greens is really poor even for this time of year, grass is yellowing and lots of bald patches, I wouldn't mind trying it on the summer to see the comparison.
Disappointed
Condition appalling, greens are bette on council courses , ball washer tapped up, ponds in dreadful
Dead duck floating on surface
Was expecting great things, would never return
Nailcote hall
Lovely par 3 course with picturesque views throughout
Not in the best of health
Played at Nailcote as I was recuperating from an operation and didn’t want to play a full 18 hole course. Nailcote is perfect for that - tightly packed with 9 shortish holes. Sadly on this occasion (I’ve played there twice before), the course was poorly maintained. I realise that playing on New Year’s Eve isn’t going to provide a perfect course, but it was quite apparent that no leaves have been collected all autumn, with some bunkers overflowing with them. Greens were poor, even for the time of year.
In future, I think I’ll stick to playing there during the summer, when big efforts are made to get it ready for the annual televised event !
Friday 11am golf reception closed, managed to get a scorecard from hotel reception. Course is good, tightly designed and overall pretty tricky to score a decent number of pars or birdies. Needs accurate iron shots to get onto the small greens. Greens are mostly elevated and well protected by either water or bunkers. A good challenge!
Nailcote Hall
Live local never played great course to improve short game.
Always a challenge
Nailcote is always a challenge.
The greens were in very good condition.
The bunkers were largely hard and unraked but I suppose unlike other clubs like mine, where members are carrying rakes this is more of a hotel course than member club - the key is to miss them!
The rough was in need of a cut as my playing partner lost several balls by being slightly off line which in turn caused delays.
It’s a shame that the water hazards have a muddy look to them or it would look even more picturesque.
It’s a fun track where the clubs used ranged from lob wedge, gap wedge, wedge, 9 iron, 8 iron, and a 6 iron on one hole which highlights whether your short game is on … or not.
Martin
Good layout, tricky with all the obstacles, all between 90 and 150ft
No Booking again
I now believe booking on Golf now creates more issue than necessary, this was my 4th booking and again when we arrived was told no booking under our name, showed our information on phone and was told well it’s not on our system, if you want to play you will have to fit in somewhere,.
Went to get a coffee before playing, sorry machine broken, can we buy some water for out on the course, sorry, only have big glass bottles, and was told sorry, very busy with the wedding that was taken place.
My recommendations are, don’t book using golf now, and don’t go when a wedding is on?
