Muddy + Uneven Tee Boxes
This course is fine & pleasant to play in the Summer but a waste of time in the Winter & i probably won't return until early next Summer. This is because it gets way too muddy & wet here in the Winter. Despite the fact that it hasn't rained much in the last few weeks my golf shoes & trolley wheels were clocked up almost straight away
Also if you miss the fairway or green it's pot luck in the rough whether you get a half decent lie or your ball sits on mud .
Overall It just doesn't drain well & the fairway grass is a bit thin & of poor quality.
The other issue is that half a dozen or so tee boxes have been uneven for years & they just don't address this issue which would be fairly straight forward to rectify .Sometimes the ball is above your feet on the tee . If they levelled the problem tees then at least it would look like they were making some effort to improve the course rather than just maintain it & this sums it up here as a course that is maintained as best as it can be under the circumstances but is not forward thinking in rectifying issues.
As another example, there is a G.U.R. waste crater down the right hand side of 17 which has been there for years .
On the positive side the greens & surrounds were well presented & the club is relaxed and welcoming.
Short course worth a go
Great greens ran true fairways were a lot of worm casts but in playable conditions. Slow pace due to the amount of par 3s and short par 4 holes definitely worth a try if in the area
Club
I have enjoyed playing at this course and the condition I have found it to be in however the problem is with the amount of players they cram into a day which results in very slow play which is not managed.
OAKLANDS
Lovely course in great condition.
Not the longest but well worth playing.
Keep the ball out of the trees.
Greens in very good condition.
Fairways likewise.
The only negative is the range is not very good.
£10 for 70 balls on a basic mat with no trackman etc is expensive.
Good little course
It’s a small par 68 course but that doesn’t stop you enjoying a round. It maybe be a short course of less than 5000 yards but it tests the medium to high handicappers. The course is in excellent condition with the putting surfaces true and precise. Course layout is well marked which is fortunate as without the markers you could get lost. All in all an enjoyable place to play a round
Bit disappointed
Lovely course but very slow pace play four & half hour to finish the round . Buggy not available after 2 and club house shut so no chance to relax afterward with beer on a very hot day
Great course
It’s surrounded by amazing courses so it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves, yes the holes aren’t long and 9 par 3s but I lost more golf there is 18 holes as I have lost I. 180 holes!!! Really worth a visit and I can’t wait to return!
A course in great shape.
The course was in great condition. Greens were nice and quick, and fairways forgiving - but stay on them, rough was very rough if you strayed too far.
Staff were great, food pricey though.
Painfully slow with wonky tee boxes
The pace of play was desperate. A short course with many par 3's and easy-walking (though a maze-like layout) and it was still nearly 4 hours and felt like 10.
However, this was not the worst part. The quality of fairways and greens was very good and yet I still marked it down for course conditions as the bunkers were poor and the tee boxes were atrocious. Few - after the first - were at all flat and many were hugely domed in the middle. Surely it would be easy to fix this?
Great little course
We were surprised at how good it was considering we got a 9am tee time on a Sunday morning for £38!
Short course and quite a tight layout but it’s enjoyable to play, very demanding on your approach shots and a premium generally on accuracy over big hitting.
In very good condition considering the green fee too and decent fast greens.
Don’t go expecting it to be a top course and you will not be disappointed - we all agreed we would definitely play here again
Dreadful, utterly dreadful
Booked this course on Golf Now. I didn't get to play it because they wouldn't let my partner walk around with me. I suffer from Rheumatoid Athriitis and can barely complete 9 holes without help. So my partner suffers me and my condition as she helps me hack around and try to play golf. I told the staff my partner doesn't play golf but just walks around with me. They weren't interested. They wanted me to pay an extra green fee for her just to walk around. I have played all over the world, in every continent and this is the first place I have ever encountered that wouldn't let her walk around with me. Utterly ridiculous snobby place with out of date rules and so called insurance rules. How on earth is golf supposed to encourage more people to play the game with out of date attitudes like this. I despair at these dinosaurs running golf courses. They are poor advertisements for this great game.
Round With Friend
Lovely course , greens in perfect condition. Had friendly round with mate who was very pleased .
Course in great condition but very tight a dreadful pace of play
Starting with the positives. The course was in great shape with green staff working hard throughout the day. The staff in the clubhouse were lovely and friendly.
The course is really tight with balls landing just off the fairway ended up being lost which felt harsh but it certainly rewards accuracy.
The most disappointing thing was the pace of 4 people 3 groups ahead of us. 2 of the groups between us and them left the course due to the pace of play. We decide to skip a hole having been held up for 3 holes. One member of the group the shouted that we shouldn’t do that. When we explained we would ensure that we would make sure we didn’t hold then up she continued to be rude. They should’ve allowed people to play through at several points over the previous 13 holes but were either ignorant or just disinterested but either way it was a poor welcome.
Won’t be retuning due to the rude members (and my inaccuracy off the tee!)
Good condition.
Course is in really good condition with all the bad wet weather we’ve had in recent months.
Tight woodland course
Tight woodland course 9 par 3's few chances to take out a driver.
Interesting Course
Played Oakland Park q a few times now. It’s short and flat. Having said that, all the holes are pretty different and it’s always in decent condition. It always has good tee time availability and pace of play is always decent (it takes me 2hr15 on my own and this round as a 2ball took 3.5 hrs).
I would highly recommend if you’re looking for a quick round after work or a quick casual one at the weekend. It won’t blow your mind but for the price it definitely does more than hold its own
