Very friendly club
Despite having recently been hollow tined, the greens rolled true and reasonably quickly. The course is well presented and despite being a shorter course it is protected by some clever doglegs. You can't just overpower the course and have to take some irons off the tee to be in the right position for your approach. Makes you think at times. I really enjoyed the test. The staff are very friendly to the point where they were a little disappointed that I did not accept a little brandy in my coffee at the halfway house.
The oak
Nice course. They have mixed it up quire nicely. Very forgiving. Enjoyed it
Disgusting
The course was in very bad condition with it being boggy and water logged . A complete rip off for the price we paid absolutely well over priced which is not good
Gone downhill
Have played a number of times and rated it very highly, but its taken a shocking downhill slide. No staff on the course at all. Tee boxes very cut up and little signs of repair. Greens in poor condition (compared to putting green which is excellent). Signage falling out of the ground or missing from previously. Not surprisingly the course was very quiet for a sunday afternoon and its obvious why. For a private course it seems to have become more like a public course. You cant keep charging £35 a round for this course. Such a pity as 18 months ago i made an enquiry about membership (twice) but nobody called me back - and now i feel i have escaped a bullet.
A lovely course that has got much worse in the last 12 months.
Always a Pleasure
It's always a pleasure to play Oakland which is invariably in good condition. It's very attractive with several water features and nice greens. It's mostly short but good use is made of doglegs. The last three holes are longer and more challenging, opening out like a 'big' course making for a satisfying finale.
The only real criticism is that the way to the next green is not always obvious and time can be wasted searching around. A few more signs would greatly improve the experience.
Hot Deal
Tried this course as had a good hot deal even though bit further to travel. Greens in good condition, fairways bit hard due to lack of rain. Few long holes to try out long shots..
Underwhelming
Bunkers are without sand and contain numerous other bits of debris throughout the course. Some greens are sectioned off for repairs, and grass is hosting numerous bits of moss and fearns.
Golf ruined by worm casts on all greens.
Puts do not roll on this course due to every green being awash with worm casts. Especially disappointing given maintenance week was only a fortnight ago!
Short but fun with 3 holes at the end that jump out and bite you!
Nice layout and far too quiet. Bar closed when we finished but don't blame them 'cos only saw 4 other players on the course.
Interesting course
This course has a good variety of long and short holes that should entertain most players. The only rason for the lost star was the the state of the bunkers which were hard and had weeds growing in them. When mentioned we were told and the saw that they were aware of the problem and had started the work to iimprove them. Will definitely play this course again
Short and Sweet.
Very short course. Lots of Par 3’s. Great practice for your short game. Course in good condition but Bunkers are awful. Last 3 holes are really really nice and quite tough.
Over priced and underwhelming
Staff really friendly and the facilities were good. Coffee was ropey and the course wasn’t much better. Kept nice enough but you have to play off the white to make it long enough as that takes it just over 5000 yards. Every par 4/5 has another dog leg, which gets boring quick. Members don’t stick to their tee time so they’re playing right behind you (hand on hips) because they tee’d off to early. Pace of play was fine. Never in million years is it worth the £40 a round they charge. Wouldn’t go back.
Great Course and Great a Value for Money
Not a long course by any standards but it’s so well laid out and offers a really interesting mix of holes. You’ll use every club in the bag. Special praise must go to the green keeping team for maintaining the course so well during this biblical rainy period. Amazing job. The greens are a little slow and inconsistent but that’s entirely to be expected given recent conditions. This is a lovely course and I’ve always enjoyed playing it.
Not bad at all
First time going round here. Course was in cracking condition and the pace of play was a little slow on the front nine but not too slow. Few too many par 3's for my liking and there was a few times you had to cross fairways to get to the next tee but, as the title says, not too bad at all.
Golf now double booked us
Golf now allowed another 2 ball on our tee time. Checking in with pro shop they said nothing to do with us....not really what you like to hear when first playing course and catching up with a friend. We sped across to the first tee to avoid the double booking but were hounded the whole way round.
Picturesque views
Very nice course with mature trees and very scenic views. The course is mainly par 4 & 3 with only 2 Par 5 holes. Its also quite flat so not challenging to walk.
Set in very beautiful village with nice pubs nearby for drinks after a good game of golf.
