Greens, tees, bunkers and fairways
Tees looking over worked and need 'flattening'. fairways, rough and semi- rough are in very good condition, greens are excellent though becoming hard and need water, bunkers need work by someone who knows what they are doing, very helpful and friendly staff. Overall, a very nice course, very good staff and well worth the time to visit and play, great surroundings and views
A good parkland course sadly in need of a bit of care and attention.
Superb hidden gem
What a great find . Highly recommend visiting here, and we’ll be back for sure … great course, tough in patches but some easier, good for everyone and every standard.
Course conditions are excellent
Orchard Leigh has produced excellent greens and fairways, Tee areas could be managed a little better, people would not mind having temporary tee's in the winter period if they can see that tee areas are being improved. This would be a comment to most courses
Lovely views
18 holes of challenging golf on a superb piece of land. Breathtaking views in places. Excellent greens (holes needed moving as didn't seem to have been done for a while). Par 3s are all excellent. Long course off the back tees as there are many hills from the 9th hole onwards. Definitely be back for another game.
Great Friday afternoon
Read reviews they were ok but I think course is much better than reviews. Greens were not perfect and neither were the tees perfect but the overall condition of the course is good and the layout of the course is great. I would say very good value for money.
A good test
Played Orchardleigh today whilst on holiday, had an early morning tee time, so didn’t see many other players at all. First impressions good, the course sits on an estate with a long drive through the course and past a very large old house to the club house. Welcomed ok and was told I could get straight off.
Course was in good condition nice fairways and greens. There was a lot of grass cuttings around as the greenkeepers were out mowing.
Would be nice to play it again as first time round found it difficult with blind shots to protected fairways and greens with plenty of bunkers and water hazards! Some holes also are quite tight so it’s not a smack driver everywhere course.
Pace of play approx 3 hours, shot 7 over my hcap because of 3 bad holes otherwise would have come in under! Would recommend giving it a go!
Great course
Just getting into golf, we played 18holes I thoroughly enjoyed the whole course. Some really challenging holes but that’s what makes it!
Orchardleigh
First time playing the course really enjoyed it. It was Saturday afternoon so it was busy.
Course was great, it is long and there was no buggies if I played again would ideally want a buggy
Greens were awful
Decided to give this course a go as it was middle distance to the others in the group.
When booking it showed many T times available from 12 noon onwards, so I thought the course would be fairly quiet given the amount of T times available - oh how wrong I was... - we did get away on time, but 5 hours later we came in ! - the course was very busy, and pace of play was slow as the many trees were shedding their leaves making looking for balls a constant issue.
But this is nothing to the greens - absolutely the worse greens i have played on in as long as I can remember - putting on dirt would have been easier, every green looked as though they needed digging up and re-seeding.
Good but poor greens
Really nice course however the greens were in really bad condition, dont know if there had been some vandalism to them. Couldn't ask as the pro shop was closed when we finished
Orchardleigh
Played Orchardleigh for a third time today and once again loved it. The weather was kind to us and once again the views around the beautifully set out course were delightful. The greens ran pretty well although it looked like they were just recovering from treatment. But I have to say great overall. Thanks again Orchardleigh.
Orchardleigh - A tale of wasted potential
Beautiful rolling greens, firm trimmed fairways, considered and careful maintenance to challenge its players. These are NOT phrases I would use to describe Orchardleigh golf club. Driving through the gates of the estate resembles the view on the 17th tee at Augusta on a blustery day. Little care seems to be given to the impressions made to both paying members and visitors. Unfortunately, this mild misdemeanour was not put to rights by the attitude of staff. All seemed to be “fed up”. Maybe this was due to the course condition that they too were experiencing. Greens like fairways, fairways like rough and rough like cabbage. Having played other courses in the local area recently, I was bitterly disappointed when faced with putts similar to the slopes that downhill mogul skiers face during the Winter Olympics. Despite this, I believe that this course has all the potential to be fantastic. Beautiful views, a wonderful plot of land and a superb course layout. Maybe, with a little more care from those in charge Orchardleigh can be returned to its best. Until that happens… AVOID.
Great course with some brilliant layouts
Great course that is much improved over the last few years. Deals with wet weather alot better than it use to and apart from a few greens that need some work, the course was in great condition.
