Great challenging course
This is a great course , would really recommend it, can get confusing at times but if you play it more than once you get used to it. Only downside is the dog walkers and walkers can get in the way but other than that it's a great course would
Loved it, loved it, loved it
What a great place
Yes it’s quirky and being on a hill in the middle of the driest period I can remember a bit dry in places but what an amazing course.
Found it friendly from the second I arrived, it was quiet and I was early so the guy in the shop let me go as soon as I was ready.
On the first tee box a couple of members offered for me to play through ad I was on my own but I explained I had never played here before and was in no rush was happy to follow them to see where to go.
They would stop sometimes to check on me or chat, they even went out there was to stand on blind spots and point the way sometimes which was very helpful.
Felt like I was playing a links course on top of the world, found the course an absolute gem, will be back I’m sure.
I’m recently getting back into golf so all the bad stuff was down to me and my game and not the course. Some greens were a little bumpy due to the dry weather and I always sealed to find myself with a downhill but on the faster greens and an uphill one on the slower furrier greens.
Highlights were making a 2 on the little par 3 over the rampart and having to shoo of a cow so I could tee off on another hole.
Thank you Painswick - you’ve reignited my love of golf. Could definitely see myself being a member here one day when I have more time
Course played really well
Course played really well. Greens not so good but expect that in hot weather we've had
One of worse course played on.
Too rough terrain, paths very rocky, greens bad condition. Been played there few years ago had hoped more improvements but no change.
Wonderful course with unique challenges
Played Painswick several times, the course is in good condition, especially in this drought. Green are at 80% so all perfectly playable
Great club house and a nice all round experience
Absolutely shocking!
Seriously this has to be the worst golf course I have ever played. Nobody in the pathetic excuse of a clubhouse, course is in horrific condition, an absolute shambles of navigation and people walking everywhere, you are in danger of being hit by a golf ball on almost every single hole. Do yourself a favour and don't waste your time or money coming to this course.
Very tricky course - take a pencil bag and do not use a trolley
Very quirky course, quite physically demanding, especially if you think you can use a trolley - I recommend taking your shorter game clubs in a pencil bag over the shoulder. The signs on the first 9 could have been better, but we liked the cows and the setting is fabulous. Short game is crucial on this course - it is less than 5,000 yards and should be rated far higher for difficulty as technically it is challenging unless you are good at lofting it very high and dropping it on a postage stamp. Definitely one to try if you want a good work out and a course with a nostalgic feel to it.
First time at Painswick but not the last!
Very enjoyable round on a challenging course made more difficult by the very hot and dry conditions. Lovely clubhouse with friendly staff. Looking forward to my next visit.
Excellent Experience
Challenging walk and holes. Lovely greeting, and friends recommendation. Some holes were a real challenge for my beginner partner, and me! Breathtaking views. Lovely food at the clubhouse, and very friendly feel with membership. People knew each other and were interested in each other - groundsman, staff and members.
Great challenging course.
Not a long course but several very challenging holes.
Beautiful views and a lot of fun .
I recommend it
Excellent course, greens not that good
Staff very helpful
fair
This is a great value for money course but suffers from lack of water. Greens were a bit hit and miss which was a shame but I suppose the very dry spring has not helped. very hilly gets the legs and lungs working
No reward for good shots
The first three holes are tough! I didn’t get rewarded for hitting all fairways, the ball just flew off into crevices and bushes leaving me amazed that I couldn’t find my ball at all on the first three holes.
In all fairness we had no rain for the whole week prior to me playing but no attempt to soften the fairways was made leaving them rock solid and unpredictable.
However, all of the par 3s are very enjoyable and very intriguing so they were fun to play just didn’t enjoy any of the fairways on the other holes. greens could do with some work also.
Late afternoon Golf on a great course
Booked last minute on the GN app. The course is in great condition, they have really looked after the Greens during this drought
Nice and hilly with several blind shots, making it a fun game of golf
