Genuinely great course all round. Only problem is that some of the tee boxes and later greens are knackered. But great pace, other conditions, value for money, staff politeness and the view is class.

The fairways appeared to be having some maintenance works on them Aeration & Scarification so they wasn’t great for play if im honest and the tee boxes need some attention greens were very good as they was when we visited in July so slightly disappointed we wasn’t told about the condition of the course before play but other then that not a bad day it was manageable.

Potentially an A class municipal course.

Drought, squirrels and a general lack of council caring has brought this course to its knees.

The local council own the property and following a recent public knockback regards developing the site for reaidential, I suspect they will allow it to go further downhill , withdraw funding and ' teach the users a lesson'. Hope Im wrong but I know how council's/ developer's brown envelopes and cartels works.

Never seen so many squirrels in a golf course, thats why theres so many holes in the fairways n greens. Shame but otherwise giid municipal course.

I would gladly cull the vermin for free...get in touch!

The course layout in good - interesting, mature tree lined and tight.

Given the hot summer it is no surprise about the condition of the fairways which are as I would expect given the lack of rain.

However, there are some other things that should be sorted and would make a big difference - Greens did not seem to have been cut and too slow. Bunkers are in a very poor condition.

Notwithstanding the recent hot weather the course and especially the greens were in a terrible state. Notably the 10th had tyre marks on it. On the 9th the bell used to alert the following group to be able to follow on was not working as the clapper was missing. This seemed to sum up the story of the course. Lack of resources from the Council and poor management by the contractors. It was muted to sell the land for housing which might be a better alternative than watching a once proud and attractive leisure facility fall into such disrepair !!!

We have played here many years and everyone knows this is a decent municipal course and represents good value for money under most conditions .

However, not for the first time this summer, management needs to get on top of golf etiquette, in particular, so-called 'societies'. We were warned by the chap at reception about the slow pace due to 'large groups' out on the course. Not sure why we were being told this, rather than the slow groups being warned, but on with the report.

Golf standard of these societies was reasonable, but the pace and etiquette was inconsiderate to say the least. We assumed 4½ hours would be about right for a 4-ball to get round, but after 7 holes, we were averaging over 20 mins per hole (six+ hours for the round) so we reluctantly decided to skip to hole 10. There we found a huge gap, and proceeded at a more appropriate rate, until hole 16 where we got stuck yet again. The guys we met (who clearly had had the same idea as us) then relayed that the slow group ahead had remarked that they were 'in the middle of "their" society'. (And therefore shouldn't be! )

Haha, how do people think that since they've booked several tee times, this gives them the right to play so slowly it holds everyone else to ransom? And no one can dare to fill gaps? Surely, golf etiquette is for everyone's benefit and the social aspect is to the people in your 4-ball. Only when you get to the 19th, does the socialising and banter extend to the rest of your party.

Doesn't it say on pretty much every scorecard to avoid slow play at all time?

And to cap it off, several of these golfers had hired buggies, but were all over the place, leaving them on the wrong side of the green when putting out, then walking slowly back to the buggies, chatting, filling in their scorecards and only then making their way to the next tee. One guy even drove zigzagging back towards us on the fairway, saying he was looking for his phone. Felt sorry for the guy's loss, but drive considerately and keep out of the way of oncoming golfers!

Don't want to be too dramatic, but our experience was so bad, we will be playing elsewhere for the foreseeable future.

Sorry, Panshanger, but your management have a responsibility to your regular golfers to explain standards to large groups and tell them they must respect golf etiquette, just like everyone else.

Played several times before, great layout. Unfortunately a family emergency prevented this round, shame about The 24hr cancellation policy but will have to come back.

Play was slow. Course was in poor condition. Wasn’t just lack of rain. Bunkers needed tlc and all looked a bit tired

So we booked a Sunday 4 ball and booking and price were very good. Unfortunately, the course was burnt out and sadly in a rack and ruin state.

Ive played here several years ago and it was in fantastic shape, perfect fairways, wonderful greens and bunkers you would of been the envy of most seaside town to be in. But, alas, time hasnt been kind to Panshanger GC. The greens had weeds growing, pitch marks and debris in abundance plus the truth of roll just wasnt there, the fairways were solid and burnt out making an excellent line in Spring but a nightmare to control at any level. The tees were awful and divot stricken!!

I truly believe i remember the course to be one of the best municipal courses in England but what I saw definately was not a contender. I so wanted to not write this review but when on the 9th 3 of my playing partners ended up 40 yards to the right of the green down a huge slope, I felt compelled to write what I saw. The course is playing unfair but with the right management and direction this could be a hidden gem for people to visit if care was put into place now in the areas I have highlighted.

The dry conditions have made this course unplayable. The Fairways are like concrete. You can drive the middle but where the ball ends up is a lottery. Balls were lost because they ran on not where you predict them to go usually. The holes than have a gradient on the fairway were pointless as the fairway wouldn't hold them and balls would roll of into thick OB. Hole 16 and 18 particularly stood out for this.

We were stuck behind a 4 ball in buggies, who were behind a 4 ball in buggies who were behind a society match. Our round lasted 4.5hrs for a 2 ball.

Off course facilities were good as always

Unfortunately there was a serious event and a helicopter had to land on the course, stopping play. I feel for the people affected.

We will return soon to complete our experience.

Took 3 hours to play 9 holes, the pace of play was miserable. Course conditions were horrid. The greens were slow and mostly brown. Thank you very much, never again

Usually play twilight and you know it’s going to be busy and therefore slow. Took time off work to play mid week during the day and the course was pretty empty, only for my round to be completely spoilt by two groups in front of me playing so slowly. No awareness of anyone behind them waiting at all so spent most of the front 9 sitting on the tee box waiting…..totally ruined my round to the point where I walked off after 9 holes. I know most of them are ancient but they’ve been playing the game long enough to know the etiquette
