Generous fairways
A well maintained golf course with generous fairways. The layout is a bit confusing and signage needs improvement.
Disappointed
Played here yesterday and obviously they have had some trouble, course was in terrible condition. After reading some reviews we were looking forward to it. Unfortunately we left very disappointed
Poorly maintained
Played with a society 11th September. After seeing poor reviews recently made on Google we got in touch with the club to find out the condition we were assured that while it was looking a bit scruffy the greens were rolling well etc. just browned.
This was definitely not the case. I'm in no way a golf snob and can usually enjoy any course I play, but this was generally a tired, run down, unlooked after course. Greens were in terrible condition and some of the tee boxes were awful.
It's a real shame as I'm sure under the right management it could be quite nice. However as it stands one of the worst courses I've ever played.
Nice Round of Golf
Very enjoyable afternoon for good price of round fairways could do with tidying up on back 9,16thtee very untidy and needs brambles cutting back to allow sight of fairway.Geens in reasonable condition for time of year
Serious issue with the greens
To start with I have played Rye Hill many times in the past and normally enjoy the course. However there is a serious problem with the greens , they were very poor. Brown, patchy , looked as though they were starved of water all summer.
Rye Hill
The Green were terrible patchy with dead grass on them
Mid-week round
Booked a mid-week afternoon round at Rye Hill having played previously (Easter weekend)
The course was in reasonably good condition. A couple of tee boxes need some work, 1 or 2 greens weren't the best and some of the bunkers are in desperate need of sand! On the whole though it was an enjoyable round for the price.
The biggest disappointment was the bar being closed when we finished at 7.00 pm.
Will be returning.
Disappointing
I’ve played Rye hill before and was excited to be returning however I must say I wasn’t as happy this time as last. First of all the tee boxes were pretty shabby( not the end of the world) secondly the fairways were patchy and poorly cut, again I could see past that but the greens were most disappointing, worm holes everywhere made it practically impossible to hit a putt without having to move 10 mounds of mud from the worms 1st. I’d suggest sending someone out early and scraping these off the greens. Pace of play was excellent because it was pretty quiet. Staff were friendly In the bar afterwards.
Great layout although the conditions are deteriorating
I have played golf probably 30 or 40 times since March last year and the course was in stunning condition, fast fairways, lovely tee boxes and super refined greens however since around July of this year I noticed the course start to get a bit out of shape. Plenty of old unrepaired divots on the fairways, patchy greens and poor tee boxes.
It's sad to see as previously this was a very well kept course with lovely views but just seems a bit run down of late. Things can turn around as quick as they have gone the other way so let's hope it comes back to a premium championship course.
All in all its a great club but just need sprucing up. By no means a poor course
Course review
Nice course , 2 different nines , needs to mature , better signs for hole direction , greens abut fluffy , bunkers not so good ,,staff great , but overall value for money .
Nice layout. Maybe needs a little tidying up in/around the bunkers but this may just be down to COVID? Other than that, a really nice course to play. Open enough so the deep rough wasn’t too taxing as once it’s in there, there’s no getting it back
Greens
Incredible greens, 10/10 and very well managed
The bunkers were average but still acceptable.
Outstanding course
Great course, fairways immaculate, greens in great condition, friendly staff, slow play in front of us, 4hrs 20 minutes for a 2 ball! Would recommend course and will visit again
Mediocre At Best
Sampled a number of courses in the Cotswolds (£25-40 green fees) and Rye Hill fell short of the rest.
Early tee time meant the clubhouse was closed on arrival - which is fine, but there’s no box of scorecards outside. So had to record it on the golfshot app. No a huge issue, but something the other courses took care of.
Greens on the front 9 were unbelievably slow, making for an underwhelming start to the round.
A number of holes also had real drainage problems. There was a decent bit of rain during the round, but given the four previous days were blazing sunshine it’s not great that multiple holes had lying water all over them - ball landing in huge puddles on the fairways, tee boxes and greens totally sodden too.
Back nine greens were in better condition and played closer to the expected standard.
The handful of 450ish par 4s might be too far for the average causal golfer to reach in two.
Overall, a fairly challenging and rather long course with a lot of low stroke index holes, but generally disappointing conditions. Not a bad course, just better options available in the same area for the same price. Also no really memorable holes. Generally all much of a muchness.
