First time playing course
The course is brilliant value fir money, it has fairly wide fairways so would be a good course for a beginner, only issues I had were with other players, the pace of play was shockingly slow & the group in front didn’t seem to understand that you should let faster players through especially as we were in a 2 and there was 4 of them, also it appears that a lot of players have just left their pitch marks on the greens which had caused the greens to be a bit variable due these tiny divots that were scattered around. Other than that the course was brilliant and I would definitely recommend
First round in ages.
I booked a 14.28 tee time through golf now, booking found no problem, clubhouse stamped a car for me and allowed me to tee off a little early as no one was waiting, which helped me out as was playing to a time. A lot of the rough was really cut back, so wasn’t too punishing, but there are still enough challenges on the course involve good course management rather than smashing driver all day. The course was very dry, but played well, slight cracking on some area of the a few greens, but didn’t affect the round.
Southamoton Golf course
Southampton, in my opinion is one of the best pay and play courses in the South of England. The course layout is wonderful. A few holes that run parallel but each one is large tree lined so if you do stray often you will be blocked out. The greens today were rather fluffy and slow but that I'm sure is largely because of the continued furlough because of covid. Pound for pound you can't beat it. We had a very enjoyable round. The four of us are members of Dudsbury Golf course in Bournemouth and we found the twenty mile drive well worth it.
Twilight round
Love the course but have issues with the SI of some of the holes. The 15 in particular is near impossible To hit in two as is the 7,14 &12!
Greens were not in great condition but as you’d expect them to be post lockdown
Awful condition.
I expected the course to still be recovering from the lack of care during Covid. But fair to say the course is currently a field with slightly shorter grass on what use to be greens.
Management still sending groups out at 7 min intervals and waited on every tee and every second shot.
Course currently has no fairways as everything has been cut at 2nd cut rough length. So no run on the ball and we reverted to pick and place.
Avoid at all costs pending the a return to proper care and maintaince.
Very good
I can be put off by the word “municipal” but this was a very pleasant surprise. My only criticisms would be the fairway grass been a little long in places and the greens needing a bit of work. But taking into account the lockdown we’ve just experienced I suppose everything has been affected, even golf courses!
I look forward to playing here again
Winter golf
The course is unplayable during the winter. Not worth the time of effort. It should shut between November and February to get the course in good condition before the prime months. The course layout is interesting and the setting was nice, I imagine is a decent course during summer conditions
Lovely in summer, avoid in winter
Played this course a few times & really like it, but played it today & it really shouldn’t have been open. Temp tees & greens on every hole & standing water in many places. The temp greens were unusable, didn’t even bother getting my putter out.
Is a great course & very friendly staff & guests, but wish they’d just told us it was so boggy.
Shocking condition
Avoid at all cost they have let the course go massively such a shame
Great
Everything fine just the greens were not up to scratch really slow and very difficult to read needed maintenance but that was the only criticism
Good value for money
Decent greens, some tee boxes better than others but can’t complain at £15
Mature parkland course with excellent greens
For a municipal golf course, this really is excellent. A well established parkland course with wide tree lined fairways and some interesting short holes. Although the fairways are a little patchy in places (not helped by the recent dry weather), the greens were in really excellent condition. The clubhouse is old fashioned but very friendly offering reasonably priced meals. Well worth a visit.
Great
Course was in great condition. Greens were superb. Rough was ok but as grass was just cut a lot of dead grass laying around, so no chance of finding ya ball if it went in there. But over all a course we play on a regular basis because it's a good all round course.
