Shocking
After 3 or 4 days of nice weather and sunshine I expected the course to be in good shape. I was warned when I got there it was a little damp in places. Good god, it was a bog in places. First tee shot plugged in the barely cut fairway. At one point I was ankle deep in water just in the first cut. How the course was open let alone charging 18 quid a go is beyond me. It’s pretty much a field with flags in at the moment.
Suffers in winter
Great summer course but suffers from poor drainage in winter months.
This course is great to just turn up and play
Each time i play this course there is always works being carried out to improve it. The staff are very friendly.
Christmas golf at 8am
Played off temp tees to practice greens as you would expect this time of year. The course was wet but not too boggy. Paid £12 for 28 holes, got out there, had a great time, what more are you looking for?
Weather showers but still played and enjoyed. Good course will be playing there again. In spring time.
Poo! And I’m not joking!
So the overall course conditions were terrible.
The tee boxes looked like most courses rough, very long grass hacked to pieces, some you couldn’t even tell were the markers were. The greens were again long grass. Some very damp even after a few days of boiling weather. Very patchy bumpy just terrible quality. And then to top that off, there was a poo on the 12th green, not a cat poo, not a dog poo, and actual full sized human poo in the middle of the 12th green!
The pace of play was horrendous, we played in a 2 and the two groups ahead of us were in 2s and the group behind us were in a 2, by the time we got to the 18th green. There was a duo on the green, one on the fairway, us waiting to tee off and the group behind us also waiting to tee off!
The pro in the shop was friendly and polite before teeing off which was prob the only shining light of the round if it honest, that and shooting -1 net.
Very very poor greens.
Greens were a mess. Grass very long and simply rolled down. Holes and damage all over the greens also. Really looking neglected.
Guys in the shop are friendly and engaging.
Nice Hidden Gem
1st time playing at Springhead park and have to say it was a very nice course, the greens are in need of a little work but overall the course is in great condition and I look forward to returning, Pace of play was great, As a 3 ball we went round in under 3.5 hrs. The course was busy which I always think is a good sign. Stopped for a drink afterward and the prices were quite low compared to other clubhouses.
Overall I think this is a little hidden gem in the centre of Hull that most golfers would enjoy.
Springhead Park
We were playing off mats, but no temp greens. Situated in a built up area of Willerby, but yet once on the course it had a nice feel about it.
My local course
Living next to springhead I’ve now played it a few times. The course layout is easy to read and there’s some challenging greens but the fairways and rough always seem to be behind on maintenance which spoils play. It’s the same amount to play here as it is the other locals which doesn’t make sense as i much prefer the others but still it’s an ok round to play overall .
Save your time and money
If your a regular golfer of a decent standard stay away at all costs . Fairways are poor . Greens are not much better . Pace of play is very slow . Five balls on the course . There seems to be no etiquette on the course what so ever . There are far better courses around than paying £20 for this one . Will not be returning
