Amazing how bad
Used to love playing this course I can’t believe just how bad it was. We only paid £12.50 through Golf Now but my suggestion to them would be to cut association with Stockley, easily the worst condition golf course I have ever played on and the worst condition I’ve ever seen that course in. It will take years to get that back to a playable standard. Wouldn’t play here again if it was free
Poor conditions
Very disappointed played here about a month ago and the course was in much better condition not sure what has gone wrong but the greens and tee boxes were in terrible conditions such a shame because it usually in good condition all year round
This used to be a good course
Having played stockley park golf course for many years and seen the changes made over this time I can only say that none of these have been for the better.
The layout has changed so many times my watch doesn’t know where it is most of the time.
It’s hard to see where the green staff spend their time and money as the course is quite frankly appalling.
Tee boxes are uncut. The general state of the pathways around the course is terrible with bramble and nettles out of control and the greens are the worst I have seen for a long time.
It would appear that the owners are more interested in the restaurant than the course.
I personally will not return to stockley park.
Poor condition
Have played here a few years ago and the course was in a lot better condition then. Greens completely burnt , Tee boxes poor , bunkers unkept and full of stones and no rakes & pace of play atrocious 2.5 hours to play 9 holes so never made it past the club house to the 10th . This place has so much potential if only someone took control . On a positive note the off course facilities were great nice club house and the staff were very friendly
Everything poor
This course is awful Green are in a bad bad state shop was poor beers were flat would not recommend to anyone
Excellent Value
Excellent value for money. The course is looking good and clearly see money being spent well to bring this back up to scratch. Love the hazards and the few doglegs.
Bins on nearly every tee box, so no excuse for littering / keeping bag clean.
Some holes have some really heavy rough so expect to lose / drop a few balls.
Tee boxes are ok and greens are 90% there.
Nice to see the hole info boards are at every hole now. Also, some direction signs are up now too. Got a bit lost when first played here a month ago.
Club shop is small and has a few items of clothing etc. small selection of cold drinks and not a lot of snack choices.
Staff have been pleasant.
Wouldn’t go amiss if groups were told to let smaller ones play through. Played here 3 times in the last two months and have had problems with pace of play. Some groups have a bad attitude towards letting people play through.
Maybe I have been unlucky the 3 times I’ve been. For the money that’s a minor niggle.
Feel blessed this is on my doorstep.
Just for comparison… Iver now charge £15-£18 for 9 holes. Uxbridge is £13 for 12 and this is £12.50 for 18 and the conditions are so much better than the other courses.
terrible
I have played stockley park a few times pre-pandemic and I'm pretty sure they haven't maintained the course since. One of the worst courses i've played, the friend i played with was shocked at how bad it was.
Alright but slow play and ruff made it a very long and tricky day
Fairway’s we’re really nice the greens were fairly quick decent roll on them pretty good for this time of year but the ruff was ridiculously long rolling a foot or two off the fairways meant an almost certain drop because finding your ball in that was nearly impossible I lost at least four balls after hitting the fairway and I only just rolled into the thick stuff a foot or two not a chance and I was playing well but the five ball in front of us killed it and to be totally honest that was the far worse than the forest of ruff all of us found most of the way around 5:30 hours for a 3 ball is shocking and the 2 ball behind us hardly troubled us to allow through but they had no chance as the 5 ball wasn’t having it the two ball was happy to take it slow but zero golf etiquette from the 5 ball and they had buggy’s as well it ruined the day for us but overall wasn’t too bad but just cut the ruff a bit would definitely help with the pace of play and make sure a decent gap given to players other then that it’s an ok little course.
So much potential
After 40 minutes to play the first hole, 90 minutes to play the first 4 and 3 hours for the first 9 we (along with a few other groups) gave up.
It was a real shame as the course was really good. The rough was too long for my preference but it made sure you found the fairway.
Would be willing it to give it another try but the pace of play was a big issue.
Pace of play & long rough ruined round
I played here for my first time as a 3 ball which we can normally complete elsewhere in 3.5-4 hours. This round took 5.5 hours with us having to wait at the next tee box on every hole, on a few occasions there were 2 groups of 3 waiting on a tee box ahead of us! Similarly, this meant we continually had 2-4 people waiting on the box for us as we also couldn’t go either.
Any rough was so long you never found your ball and flowers / weeds coming though the course made it hard to see your ball also.
Overall a nice enough course, with good amenities - bbq etc - but the course needs improvement to sort the above before I’ll return.
Course is a maze!
Had high expectations before playing but unfortunately failed to impress..
The course layout isnt great, there is far too much distance between some holes, unless you are using a golf cart be prepapred for a long round. It took us 5hr 15mins to complete a 2 ball round. Pace of play was poor too with some 5 balls also seen playing somehow!
Signage is next too non existent. I noticed two holes where the hole number was stated next to the tee, making it virtually impossible to know what each hole is. There are hardly any 'next tee' signs meaning you can get lost if you're not a regular visitor to the course. This has to be improved else the pace of play will be ridiculous on busy summer days.
One of the few good things was how dry the course was considering the heavy rainfall in recent weeks. I was struggling to get my tee into the ground on some tees and the greens were very quick for the time of year! The grass was long especially in the rough just off the fairway meaning many lost balls through the round which was frustrating to say the least.
In may be value for money for many but unless the issues stated are seen to I wont be returning anytime soon.
Course needs massive improvements!!!
After approx 4 years since my last round at Stockley Park, I can honestly say it has gone downhill massively! Greens seem to be dying off in most places, weeds coming through as well, not great putting surfaces at all. Pretty impossible for a great ball roll.
Fairways aren’t what they should be, not cut down, most of the time it felt like playing out of the first cut. Green keepers really need to work on the whole course.
Cups that were put in the holes they cut, some sat above ground level, on the 10th hole the flag couldn’t even stand straight it was leaning heavily to the left because the hole was not cut out properly and slanted.
Pace of play was awful! It took 5 hours to go round as a 2 ball. No one wanting to let anyone play through which was a nightmare.
Bunkers are impossible to play from. You can’t even call them bunkers. Full of stones, gravel and everything else apart from sand. All bunkers need to be filled with sand, it’s shocking. Don’t play out of them, your clubs will potentially get damaged!
I’m not sure why it’s labelled as a championship course because it really isn’t. Not in my opinion anyways. I won’t be in a hurry to go back there until the course is shown some proper TLC.
Could be good
Just felt like the course had been forgotten about and not cared for. And when you're not on the actual course there is so much rubbish/litter around the paths between holes.
Like I said - this course has good holes - but just could be better.
Course conditions
Having played Stockley loads of times over the years and been disappointed at the conditions of the course id have to say it now seems to be moving in the right direction having roped off fairways giving people with trolleys paths to follow has helped the fairways and the general look of holes the greens were in excellent condition and fast my only gripe is the bunkers being wet compact sand and need to be raked definitely will be returning
