Could be nice. but terrible condition
The course is well located and layout is ok. Some nice features and could be a nice course if it was cared for. But it’s simply not cared for. Holes in greens, no sand in bunkers. Awful condition. The bar and restaurant seem great so it’s surprising that the course is so poor.
Should be closed!!!
Before I start I just wanted to make it clear that the staff at Stockley Park were wonderful and could not have been more accommodating and everything we needed.
Therefore it is not their fault that this happens to be the most atrociously presented golf course I have ever played. I simply cannot believe that whoever makes the decisions at Stockley Park have a have allowed the course to stay open.
The greens are in in an unplayable condition. Disease, drought and basically not mowing them has meant they are simply unacceptable for play on. The fairways are suffering without water, and my friend described the 10th as something like a lunar surface. The 10th is the worst golf hole I've played ever in my 35 years playing golf. literally no grass on it - none! And that includes the tee box!
Avoid this course at all costs until it sorts its tee boxes, greens and fairway maintenance out.
I hadn't realised I could take photos and add to this review-I wish I had as there are no more words I can say about this one. Truly awful condition - and months and months away from being any better.
Missed opportunity
Very interesting course in dire need of some attention and better maintenance. It's a shame because the holes were quite enjoyable and the staff were great.
Lots of blind holes too which got dangerous a couple of times with no way to signal back to the tee box of the next group.
Not worth the money
I played this course on 10th July 2022 and was shocked to find the tee boxes in dreadful condition- the course layout is good but the greens and tee boxes really need a lot of love- on several occasions there weren’t even red tees. Probably worth £20 but not £36
Good value
This is a good long course and the only gripe I have is that you will need to programme your devise to indicate that the old hole 10 is now the new 1. ☹️
You can easily lose balls but then again that’s all part of the challenge. If you don’t have anyone in front then it can be fun otherwise annoying. Fairly long walks in between holes.
Will go back again via Golf Now to get the best rate
Steer well clear
Go anywhere but here! We played early July, so not peak summer and there has been some decent rain in the past two weeks. Yet the course is more dried out than a grape in a microwave for 15 minutes. The bunkers are utterly sandless, rock solid and you might as well play your wedges straight off the car park, it would certainly be better for them. Massive craters in the tee boxes and greens, probably did the tee boxes a favour to try and flatten them out a bit, but you’d need a JCB to finish the job. For £35 per player for 18 holes we didn’t expect the Belfry, but it might have been nice to have seen at least one blade of green grass. Next time we’ll just play a round on the M4 where there’s undoubtedly more moisture in the ground than there is here. Save your money, stay away. I’ve uploaded pictures as evidence but not sure if they are saving
Confusing layout
Had an enjoyable but confusing round. Numbering of holes and layout changed some time ago. However no yardage give on any tees. Signing to next hole is poor. Garmin layout has not been updated.
Greens and most fairways were good.
Rock hard stony 10th tee (previously 1st)
Speed of play good when quiet, poor when busy.
Moderately Hilly course.
Not great
Tee boxes in bad condition, gps map didn’t seem to match the course. No information about the holes such as length etc. Fairways and greens okay. But very disappointed for the price. I’d play again if it improves those areas.
A nice walk after work
Me and my pal from work wanted a round after work.
I don’t understand how the course can say a championship course.
The greens and tee boxes was in awful conditions and on holes 12,13 and 14 the flags had been taken out and chucked at the side of the course.
This is not acceptable.
We will not be playing here again.
Would find a better field off the side of the M25
Dreadful rundown course that has clearly just been let go. Greens on the front 9 nice were really poor, slight improvement on back 9. Tee boxes were a joke, the 10th tee box was so hard none of us could get a tee into the ground. Layout was all over the place, long walks between holes and randomly over a bridge on a main road. Hard to know where some holes were going. Out of the hundreds of course I’ve played it’s up there with the worst. Best part of the course was the beautiful clubhouse after we finished the round. Would rather never play golf again that return to this course! Mid teen handicapper.
Nice course
Nice course, great condition. Went on a bank holiday Monday so as you can imagine was very busy, booked a two ball and ended up being paired up, which wasn’t that big of a deal due to how busy the course was due to bank holiday, but would of been nice to be told before hand but not a big deal as the two guy we were paired up with where very nice and we had a good round. Very nice conditions and good lay out, staff polite and helpful. Only suggestion I have is rough slightly long, especially the rough just off the fairway, I understand the rough when your miles offline but the rough just besides the fairway for me was way to long and you get punished for being a yard offline. But generally really nice course and enjoyed my round and 100% will be back and recommend playing here. Thanks
Save your money
If you like bunkers with no sand or grass & weeds growing in them, the driving range has no rubber tee Pegs & over priced. If you hire a Buggy with GPS built in it follow the old course layout. The New 10th hole is a joke, rock hard with stones everywhere the ball will not stop before the green even if you are 20 yards short.
To much waiting at T-offs and through out course. Because of some walks between holes pedestrians are alot slower than golfers with buggies which creates back up problems. I found it very hard to relax and enjoy my round because of the frustrations of waiting on T-offs. And people on Buggies complaing about having to wait. It was very busy , and I just couldnt relax enough to enjoy my game. It's a big No from me. Golf should be enjoyed not rushed....
Great course conditions. Terrible to navigate
Course was in great nick, considering it was a downpour the day before. Fairways were great, and greens were firm.
The course has recently changed the layout, moving holes around, so navigating it isn't easy. Could certainly do with some clear directions and hole numbers. Spent 10 minutes looking to get for the 9th to the 10th hole.
Not a bad course at all
Nowhere near as bad as some of these reviews make it out to be. Yes you start on hole 10 rather than the 1st but doesn't affect your round at all. Fairways in places are marked off for GUR but again, it's all to make the course better in the warmer months. Greens were big and undulating which makes for a very enjoyable round, they were punched when we were playing which bobbled a bit but otherwise can see the good potential! Pace could have been better but as other reviews mention, it's the golfers that play there that won't let you play through. Some challenging holes and course knowledge will help on returning to play in the summer which we will definitely do!
