FootGolfReviews
Good value, not many obstacles.
Could do with a few more bunkers, greens were a bit off but for £12 it’s a good deal really.
Good value for money
Well worth the 12 quid and course not on bad condition considering the time of year
Great 9 hole course
Always been a nice small 9 hole course but since Links Golf have taken over they have worked so hard to make the course in really good condition
Dobbin Course (9 Hole) Has So Much Potential!
Link Golf UK has really started to transform Tapton Golf Club. There are so many changes going on, it’s clear to see! New bar area, buggies, driving range. Fantastic!
The Dobbin academy course has a lot of potential to be a really good 9 hole practice course, or great for players who don’t want to play the full 18. It’s fairly open with a lot of forgiveness, some challenging holes and some fantastic views of Chesterfield.
Where it lacks is course conditions and layout.
The first couple of holes are quite hilly, and are pretty tough to start! After that, the other 7 holes are relatively flat, or downhill.
My main grumble is that there just needs to be more direction for players as to where to go for the next tee box.
Couple of times I nearly got lost, unsure where to go next!
So having more markers “next tee this way” would be very helpful! Some signs weren’t there, some were, some tee box yardage signs were just broken. The first one I saw was on hole 5, and it was broken, leaning over.
The course isn’t in bad shape, but not great shape either. Some of the greens were dried out and had huge holes in them. The pins and flags look like they’ve seen better days, and there was a lot of broken tee pegs on each box. Wish I could say that it’s because a lot of people played - but checking times, they had tee times all day.
The 18 is always going to be the premier course and it’s great to see Link Golf UK are putting a lot of effort in to making that course great.
But I’d urge them to not neglect the 9, it’s a great little course for people wanting to practice or not ready for the full 18 yet. I played it due to wanting to practice on my game, but also only be out for a couple of hours. On course practice beats the range any day!
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the Dobbin course, I love the fact that it was so quiet, truly felt like millionaires golf! Tee times all throughout the day, no one behind me, and lots of time to work on my game.
I’d definitely recommend it, and I want to play it again. But improvements need to be made!
