First time, but will be back
For mid November the course is in great condition with all greens in play and no winter mats.
Lovely place
Well for late October it was a lovely course and the staff are wonderful. The greens were superb, and most with wonderful contours and shapes. Talking to the staff they told me the green keepers had worked very hard to get them like that. The fairways too were wonderful. . Some tees were a little bare but thats to be expected for this time of the year and only a few.
Keep to the fairways as the leaves in the rough and some in the semi rough are a nightmare but thats every course at this time of year. Some lovely holes, a good test.
It’s well over 30 years since I played here and the changes are excellent. Wonderful clubhouse, welcoming and very lovely staff. Plus next a super driving range with all the latest tech very reasonably rate too.
Has potential to be a great course
This review is probably isn’t too fair on the course because they are just coming off the back of their maintenance week.
Most of the tee boxes were abit chewed up and could really do with a roll to flatten them off abit while the ground is soft.
The fairways were in great condition and were easily defined.
The rough was just long enough to make it tricky to get out of, but not long enough that you couldn’t find your ball.
The greens….. had had a fair bit of work done on them and were quite patchy with plenty of fresh seeds on them, the grass was a little long and made them very slow and unpredictable, but this is expected after maintenance.
Overall the course is good, and they are doing work to make more improvements. This course in my opinion has the potential to be a great course.
Overall the course was in good shape.
The weather wasn't great but the course was in good condition and played well. Some of the holes are short but challenging dog legs.
The new addition of a driving range, cafe and shop were a welcome addition from the last time I played it.
It was great and I will be back at some point.
Returning visit
I last played the main course at Tapton at the end of March 2025, just at the start of the golfing season. The greens at the time needed work on them. I played again this week and it looks like, in the main, the greens are improving..the areas of the greens that are damaged have been tined. However after 9 holes the greens were unplayable due to hollow tining taking place, the greens had been cored the day before, however, we were expected to play on greens that had been dressed ready to be brushed in.. unplayable.
Really disappointed that there was no warning this in advance, it doesn't take much to advise the golfers before setting off..we all understand these processes need to be completed, but just warn us before we book and set off...the course would have been better shutting 9 holes and let us play 2 loops of the same 9, or at the very least, top dress and drag the green before moving to the next.
At one point I had to putt over tyre tread marks in sand...
The shop staff was nice enough on arrival but a heads up, or a sign on the first tee would have prepared us. Poor customer service really
Spiked greens in August
Have played the course a lot and generally enjoy it, however this time, every green has been spiked and its first week of August yet expected to pay full price!!
Will be going elsewhere for a while
Course is starting to get better
I first played the course a couple of weeks ago, in the last 2 weeks the course is getting better with no winter mats and the course looks better and more defined. The grass is starting to grow and looks better for a cleaner cut.
Feels like it's starting to get ready for the season.
Only went in one bunker but it had plenty of sand in it.
The speed of play was " steady" which was a suprise considering how busy it was.
The greens need some tlc, they do not putt smooth at all and many are scarred through disease. It maded for a very frustrating game, many golfers in the course were saying the same thing. This needs to be looked at as it really lets the course down. If this can be sorted this course has the potential to be very good.
If they could be sorted it's a course I would even consider joining
A neglected gem being brought back to its former glory
Ok so honest review, this course is not where is needs to be YET but the guys at Link Golf UK have made massive strides forward.
Clubhouse and trackman driving range have been fantastic additions.
Fairways have been kept in good condition and lots of trees have now been cut back making the course playable.
Greens still need a lot of work. Playing them all winter is not something I am sure of but let’s see how they look after all the refurb work going on right now.
Bunkers have been a massive improvement. They actually have sand and are regularly raked, just need to ensure rakes are left in every bunker now.
Winter tees also need some focus over summer. They are way too skinny and very firm with some in very dubious placements.
Enjoyable day in the rain. I would recommend
I played on a wet Saturday morning with a great group of members, who made me feel very welcome. The course was looking great, having the takeover company investing in the upkeep. There was a couple of tee boxes out of action which is expected on a wet day. I would be concerned that they keep the tee boxes and greens on all winter as the marketing suggests, due to the historical issues the course has with drainage, members seem a little concerned too but looking forward to seeing how the course improves in the coming months. Well worth a hit and exciting times ahead.
Markham Course
LinkGolf doing great things off the course. Greens are struggling after years of neglect though. Always a good challenge.
Terrible Greens
Probably the worst greens I have ever putted on to be fair the fairways and tee's where quite good but overall the whole facility is run down won't be playing again.
Best it’s been in years
I’m a member of this club and since it’s been taken over by Golflink UK and under new management a lot of time, money and effort have been put into the course.
It’s the best I’ve seen it in years. The Tees, fairways and greens are fantastic.
Check the clubs Facebook page and you’ll see regular update of what’s happening.
Only issue is the pace of play of some people using the course.
The club house has been revamped, indoor simulator available, driving range and putting green.
Trackman coming soon.
