The Essex Golf & Country Club - Championship Course

About
The Essex has a modern clubhouse and a sports brasserie filled with sporting memorabilia from around the world. It is sited on an ex-World War II airbase, with a flying club and a grass strip running along one side.
The Championship Course has already won acclaim for its challenging yet fair features. With 4 par 3's , nine par 4's and five par 5's, 10 lakes and strategically placed bunkers. There is a spectacular beginning and finale to the round, whilst the course provides a constant choice of shorts for golfers of all standards. Take the conservative route with a more difficult shot to follow, or go for it setting yourself up for glory or disaster.

Great greens, lovely course, shame about the goose poop
As per the title, great round, greens in fab condition. But. Quite alot of geese, and consequently a huge quantity of goose poop.
Essex golf country club
Absolutely brilliant course greens fantastic course fantastic
only bad thing was had 4 ladies in front of me who had not got a clue . And I was also on my own and they would not call me through also one lady was actually playing in sandals which I thought a little wrong . Everyone as to learn how to play but have bit of common sense lat people through
Great course
First time I played it and the deal through GN was too good not to take and I'm so glad I did.
Very challenging and a good mix of distances on each hole.
Nice and flat so you didn't need to different thickness shoes to hit the ball.
Greens ran true and bunkers actually had sand in them.
Will play again this week.
18 handicap
All rounder
Great course for every type of handicapper,. Staff friendly and helpful. Course in great condition given the weather recently. Highly recommend. Book on website or on App to save some money paying on the day at the reception.
Great course
Front 9 is hard work, opens up on the back 9.
Nice track
Disappointingly rough around the edges
The Essex has never been ione of my favourite courses but it is a decent test with some really nice holes.
However on this occasion, although most of the course looked in good condition, for this time of year, the greens were just awful. There’s no excuse in June and when people are paying upwards of £28 for green fees, that your greens are in such bad condition.
It’s a pity because the rest of the course looked and played really nicely.
Ok but…
Long course but not a lot of character. Fairways were burnt but greens were soft. It’s ok but wouldn’t want to play here every week.
Very poor
Maintenance was poor. Over priced. No practice facilities. Too many in the course. No course Marshall. No one let anyone play through. Waste of time. We walked off on the 15th as there was a queue of 3 groups of 4 balls
One of the best in Essex
Winter conditions as one would expect this time of the year, muddy in places and some bunkers waterlogged, but still very playable, four of us and we all enjoyed it, no holdups so we got around four and half hours , good for a long par 73 , we will definitely will be back.
Good course
Excellent course, partnered 2 senior members that were brilliant company. Greens were running perfectly. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this course
The Essex
Excellent course the only problem we had was we got held up on every hole, there was a 3 ball in front of us and you could tell 2 of them were beginners.
I understand everybody has to start somewhere however there is a 9 hole course at the Essex and i thought that might have suited them better.
Excellent staff, great course, 8 out of 10
Friendly Reception & Great Course
The reception upon arrival from the people on the front desk, to the starter on the first was first class. Really welcoming and friendly! The course matched the reception, considering the time of year it was in great condition, with the fairways and greens been soft and receptive respectively but not wet and soggy. Off line in the rough was slight boggy in places, but a fair punishment for missing the fairways which are 40yds wide! Overall a great course, would thoroughly recommend and will be playing there again.
