A little gem
Love this course through the woodlands you play with some really stunning holes my favourite being the dog leg par three on the third, the course here is always in excellent condition and the staff are always happy to help with any request. The food is lovely and if the weathers right you can sit out on the balcony looking over the 18th green. If your a golfer on the look out for somewhere to visit I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
Perfect finish to the week!
Super experience, lovely family feel to clubhouse and staff. Course layout was logical, flowed well, but desperately needs some rain. The hot spell has dried out fairways and some erratic bounces experienced as a result. Greens were in fine form, irrigated band cut well. With a consistent roll. Appreciated.
Fairways in great nick after a wet winter but greens dry and very tricky.
Love this course and have played numerous times. A real test with plenty of undulating fairways, water holes and tree lined areas. This time the greens were a bit dry and not running true as a ball came close to the hole. Regardless I’ll be back as a great course.
Lovely variation of holes
One of my favourite courses locally. The variation of holes makes for a fair test for all levels of golfer. I’ve only been playing since e end of summer and appreciate the wide fairways and low number of bunkers! Beautiful setting to play golf I .
Never Again!
I have played 28 courses this year and only failed to complete 2 rounds. Colne Valley ranks as the worst for customer service and pace of play by a country mile!
Paid for 2 ball visitor, was told 4 society 4 balls tee off at 12:30, to create a good gap, we chose a 1:08pm tee, a gap of nearly 40 minutes. Ahead of us was two young lads in a buggy and a solo golfer. By the time we completed the 3rd hole, we were waiting c15 on the tee due to groups ahead slow play.
We walked off after playing the 4th as it became clear we were staring at a c5 hour round with sunset due well before this. At the pro shop, we mentioned this, was stared at, grunted at and barely a syllable of english. Not evem a “sorry you experienced this”, certainly not an offer of rebooking another day. They couldn't care less, had my money and had no interest of being a good business, having a return customer or even giving lip service to a customer’s poor experience. Disappointing and frankly disgusting.
To add insult to injury, the sausage roll and pasty from the clubhouse tasted like it was out of date supermarket value range crossed with pet food! It genuinely created nausea and by the time I got home, quite severe vomiting!
I will never return and could not even recommend Colne Valley to my worst enemy!
Great value
Course is great condition even thou it rained for the previous week , Greens and bunkers in great shape
Great course
Really nice course. With challenging holes.
Will defo come back and play again
One of my favourite courses.
Enjoyed playing here again. The only thing I would say is some times it is not clear where the next hole is. In particular 9th to 10th Some simple signposting would really help.
Great course but don’t go there to eat.
Went to this course because my son had played there in an Essex schools cup a few months back and he wanted to try it again to see if he could better his score, we got there nice and early to have breakfast and enjoy our day but we’re told the kitchen was shut for staff holidays, there was nothing on the website, also when booking you can’t book a junior it’s full adult price only, so after a not so good start we got on the practice green and it was outstanding smooth and fast even though it was also a chipping green, then into the practice net to get warmed up and then out on the course, and what a great course with the little bit of knowledge my son had from his previous round we managed to plot our way round the fairways are dry and run really well the first cut is quite short so you have a bit of leeway, and as there are plenty of doglegs a range finder is very handy so you don’t drive to far and end up in the deep rough or the wooded area, the greens are very quick, smooth and I thought quite hard to read, both my son and I really enjoyed the day, 4 balls let us play through when needed and we did catch up on a seniors competition but they played at a good rate and were very present, our round was approximately 4 hours. My son managed to cut his score to a great 81, we will be playing this course again we really enjoy our day but we were both starving by the end of it.
Favourite Course in Area
Thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon round. Greens in tip top condition and fairways and fringes immaculate. Rough wear it exists is manageable and really enjoyed the variety of holes that make the most of the natural landscape and trees. Will be back very soon.
Be wary on society days if you have anyone drop out!
Had a society day booked on 19th July. We originally had 15 participating but due to a family emergency we lost two players the night before.
Having paid an initial £100 deposit a few weeks previous, I informed a member of staff that we were two players short, but was then told I would still have to pay for the extra two green fees even though there we were still using the same amount of tee times which would bear no loss to the club at all. I would have been more than happy to cover the cost of any food but they were insistent. The attitude of the staff member was awful and she’d already tried to charge one of my party members family a surcharge on a coffee she’d already served her moments before.
The course is in pretty decent nick, but will never return due to the above, no other clubs I’ve ever dealt with have this policy in place and it’s left a proper sour taste.
Lovely undulating course with quality greens
Decided to play this course when looking for a course close to Sudbury. Got a great value deal via GN for a 3.40pm tee time.. The course was quiet enough to allow us to go at our “learners pace” and thoroughly enjoyed the layout set amongst mature tees with beautifully maintained bunkers and greens. Will be back for sure.
Colne valley
Great course , great staff , great facilities
The only problem was, that if we booked direct with the course and not through ‘ golf now’ it would have been £10 cheaper per player
Excellent course
Visited colne valley on Friday, incredible course, brilliantly challenging holes, course conditions were impeccable, thoroughly enjoyable, one of the best courses I have played locally. Look forward to returning soon.
